4 UCCT Door & Shutter Manufacturers Association is the Italian association of manufacturers, installers and servicers of industrial doors and shutters and their hardware: fire & smoke doors pedestrian doors, movable barriers & drives, remote controls, safety devices, etc burglar resistant doors residential & commercial doors wood, metal, PVC & Glass Windows & Doors Industrial, doors & docking certified Hardware & Component for doors Coordination for specialized installers, service & Assemblers The members of UCCT are Italian firms and Italian-based subsidiaries of foreign firms. The aim is to promote fair competition in the sector and to encourage appropriate quality levels, functionality and user friendliness. This is possible because of UCCT members active participation in the development of legislation and standards at European level through meetings, conferences, workshops, publications, etc. UCCT is divided into divisions, each one defining its own objectives with its own management and appointing its own president and vice presidents as listed below. UCCT is managed through the ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL(CdA) which comprises the presidents and the vice presidents of each division plus the past president. The other main institution of UCCT is the DIRECTION COMMITTEE(CdD), which comprises five members: president, past president and three members taken from CdA in order to advise the president. 43 The European Door & Shutter Federation (EDSF) was initiated in the late 1980s wanted by members of existing national door and shutter manufacturing Associations in France, Germany and UK who were, at that time, monitoring on behalf of their association members the drafting of proposed harmonized Standards for fi re resistance of doors. EDSF has now expanded its membership and its presence in Europe, now covering issues relating to general door standards as well as firedoors. Individual companies cannot become members only national associations can be federated. However, in countries where a national Association does not exist, EDSF encourages liaison membership at proportioned fees to allow promotion of the benefits of collective manufacturer discussions to fellow companies in order to promote the initiation of national Associations. More than door companies, including most of the major European manufacturers, are members of the federated Associations. Harmonisation must succeed. It is important that all countries follow the same principles for both testing and conformity. EDSF is well recognised by the European Commission and is expanding its role to ensure that product conformity is carried out in an equivalent manner in each Member State. To this purpose, EDSF has been awarded liaison membership to the Group of Notified Bodies in the Fire and Door Sectors. Membership enquires from prospective Associations and liaison companies will be welcomed by the Secretariat. Trade related enquires from parties such as architects, consultants, national building officers, building contractors and others will also be handled by the Secretariat. The execution of work in the Federation is conferred on the General Secretariat, led by a Secretary General, which offices are fixed in Germany. The President is elected from one of the associated Nations. In 2009, after two mandates consecutively assigned to the Italian Association, the office has been appointed to Mr Christian Grabitz for the Secretariat. 44 THE E.D.S.F. DOOR ENERGY CALCULATOR This Door Energy Calculator explains possible energy losses of buildings caused by opening and closing doors during a period of time. With this calculation it came clear that the door parameters: U-value, Air-leakage an Infiltration, have a real impact on the energy consumption in correlation to the building type and size. The user should be convinced that with a thermal optimizer and well insulated door with an intelligent door automation a real energy saving benefit could be realized during a whole life-cycle all for a sustainable building. As specified in the E.D.S.F s website Door Energy Calculator is simple to use, following the three principal points. 59 Publishing Activity Uct Service The UCT Secretary s office promotes a series of editorial initiatives which, over the years, have become an important point of reference within the world of shutters and doors in order to increase awareness of the sector s technical culture and heighten visibility of UCCT member s brands. The UCCT Annuario, includes a list of UCCT Members along with a presentation of their products and indications of their Divisions activities. Furthermore it includes a list of Recognized European Institutes and further information useful for the sector. The UCCT Calendar records all the UCCT Members logos; is published each year and is widely distributed to the leading companies within the sector, to Government Offices, Associations, technical offices, Opinion leaders, Firemen and so on. The Manual for Fire Doors presents all European rules relating to the fire door sector in a coordinated, didactic and summarized method illustrating them through drawings, drafts, tables and including all the indications relating to Italian legislation.
