CHI PENSA SIA NECESSARIO? TU, O QUALCUN ALTRO? SITUAZIONI AFFERMATIVE E/O INTERROGATIVE MUST Must sta a indicare un obbligo urgente o sentito da chi parla Esempio: I'm sorry, I must go. = Mi spiace, devo andare. I must buy flowers for my fiancé. I must stop smoking. I must ask my mother to prescribe a new medicine for me. Hai bisogno di un nuovo antistaminico. Per te, è importante non dimenticarlo. Quando vuoi dimostrare di essere sicuro, riguardo un particolare evento, puoi (e devi) utilizzare must You ve had a long journey, you must be tired. There s no heat in this room, you must be cold. You haven t eaten all day, you must be hungry. Must ha soltanto la forma del Simple Present dell'indicativo Esempio: You must fasten the seat belt.
- non è mai seguito da un complemento oggetto Esempio: Must we call the ambulance? = Dobbiamo chiamare l'ambulanza? TO HAVE TO Have to viene utilizzato per indicare un compito, assegnato da qualcun altro I have to buy flowers for my mother-in-law. I have to stop smoking. I have to call the doctor. Ad esempio: musn t You mustn t smoke in this restaurant You mustn t tell Gabriele You mustn t step on the grass Divieto di fumare, divieto di calpestare il prato e la richiesta di mantenere un segreto. don t have to: You don t have to pass this exam You don t have to tell Gabriele
You don t have to step on the grass Nel primo caso, non sei obbligato a superare l esame. 1. You be late for class, or the teacher will be angry. A.? B. 2. You pass a test to ride a bicycle. A. B.? 3. Canadians get a visa to travel to the US. A. B.? 4. This bus is free! You buy a ticket. A. B.? 5. You smoke in a gas station. A. B.? 6. In Canada, employers discriminate against women or minorities. It's against the law. A. B.?
7. You buy the text book for this course -- you can borrow mine. A.? B. 8. You unplug the computer while it is turned on. A.? B. 9. Shops sell cigarettes to children. A.? B. 10. You live in Canada to study at the University of Victoria. You can take a course by Internet. A.? B. You be late for class, or the teacher will be angry.? You pass a test to ride a bicycle. Canadians get a visa to travel to the US. This bus is free! You buy a ticket. You smoke in a gas station.
? In Canada, employers discriminate against women or minorities. It's against the law.? You buy the text book for this course -- you can borrow mine. You unplug the computer while it is turned on.?
