1 Dear IS Modena families, Winter Fair spectacular edition! Impressive organization, team work and lots and lots of enthusiasm has made our Winter Fair 2015 an incredible success! The Winter Fair brings our whole community together and with the support of every single one of you (students, parents, teachers, staff), our special atmosphere is recreated once more and shared with our whole school community! We hope you and your children enjoyed the day! A very special thanks goes to Claudia Schmitz & our PTA ladies, for the incredible effort in organizing this amazing event! Thank you to all the volunteers, moms & dads who have supported the event in different ways (cooking, preparing, decorating, coordinating, singing). The International buffet was an amazing and delicious trip around the world with a wide variety of food representing our international community thank you to all our super cooks! A special thank you also goes to our determined and hard working ISM student council for the support in meeting & greeting, setting up & organizing and supervising the Middle Years lounge! WELL DONE!!! Thank you Luigi, Mr. Montorsi, Mr. Groppi and Mr. Berriman for the long & tiring job of preparing the gym for hosting the festive songs, a traditional and important finale to our Winter Fair. Thank you to Claudia Schmitz and her team of volunteer moms for prepping in only 2 weeks, the student groups and adult group, singing in different languages. CARING is one of the IB learner profile attributes and caring makes us all feel happy and good. Feeling part of a caring and giving community makes us feel special. Special thanks have arrived to our school community from CUAMM Medici per l Africa for having hosted them during our Winter Fair. CUAMM has raised 318,00 which will be destined to the project carried out in Freetown in Sierra Leone to help improve health services & support for pregnant women and their babies after the Ebola pandemic affecting the area. Special thanks to our school community have also arrived from Nema Problema. Through the participation in our Winter Fair and caring community they have raised 380,00 which will be destined to support Hope for Children in Damascus, Syria (providing basic school facilities to children escaping war) and in the Balkans (providing assistance in refugees camps) Usborne Bookfair - thanks to the purchases of our school community, our school has gained new books to a total of 450,00. At the end of this week we will say goodbye to a couple for our students, Antonio in Grade 4 and Sara in Grade 8. We wish them and their family all the best with their move and transition to the new school. Last but not least, congratulations to Ms. West and welcome to Giorgia! 2 Gent.me Famiglie IS Modena, Winter Fair edizione spettacolare! Organizzazione incredibile, lavoro di squadra, e tantissimo entusiasmo hanno contribuito all enorme successo della nostra Festa d Inverno 2015! La Winter Fair riunisce tutta la nostra comunità e con il supporto di ciascuno di voi (studenti, genitori, insegnanti, staff) ancora una volta è stata ricreata una speciale atmsofera condivisa con tutti i membri della comunità scolastica. Speriamo che voi e i vostri figli vi siate divertiti! Un ringraziamento davvero speciale va a Claudia Schmitz & alle nostre mamme e papà del PTA, per l incredibile impegno dedicato all organizzazione di questo bellissimo evento! Ringraziamo tutti i volontari, mamme e papà che hanno contribuito alla realizzazione dell evento in vari modi (cucinando, decorando, coordinando e cantando). Il buffet internazionale è stato un viaggio nelle delizie del mondo culinario, con una grande varietà di cibi caratteristici della nostra comunità internazionale: grazie a voi, super cuochi! Uno speciale ringraziamento va anche al nostro consiglio studentesco ISM che ha contribuito con determinazione ed impegno all accoglienza dei partecipanti, all allestimento e alla supervisione nella stanza di Middle Years! Ottimo lavoro!!! Grazie a Luigi, Mr. Montorsi, Mr. Groppi e Mr. Berriman per il lungo e stancante lavoro di allestimento della palestra per le canzoni natalizie, un finale importante e tradizionale della ns. Winter Fair. Grazie a Claudia Schmitz e al suo gruppo di mamme volontarie per aver preparato, in sole due settimane, i cori degli studenti e degli adulti che hanno cantato in diverse lingue. ALTRUISTA è uno degli attributi del profilo dello studente IB, ed esserlo ci fa sentire tutti più felici. Essere parte di una comunità altruista e generosa ci fa sentire speciali. Un ringraziamento speciale alla nostra comunità è giunto da CUAMM Medici per l Africa per averli ospitati durante la Winter Fair. In particolare, i 318,00 raccolti durante la Winter Fair andranno al progetto in corso a Freetown, Sierra Leone, per migliorare la qualità delle prestazioni sanitarie destinate alle donne in gravidanza e ai loro neonati, dopo la recente pandemia di Ebola Ringraziamento speciali sono arrivati anche da parte dell associazione Nema Problema. Attraverso la partecipazione alla Winter Fair hanno raccolto 380,00 da destinare al progetti di Hope for Children a Damasco, Siria (fornendo servizi scolastici di base ai bambini che stanno scappando dalla guerra) e nei Balcani (sostenendo le attività nei campi profughi) Fiera del Libro Usborne - grazie agli acquisti da parte della ns. comunità scolastica la scuola ha acquisito libri nuovi per una somma complessiva di 450,00. Alla fine di questa settimana saluteremo un paio di nostri studenti, Antonio in Grade 4 e Sara in Grade 8. I ns. migliori auguri a loro e alla loro famiglia per il loro trasferimento e per l inserimento nella nuova scuola. Ed infine, congratulazioni a Ms. Debbie West e benvenuta a Giorgia! 3 ISM Student Council Dear parents, The Student Council has decided to organise a Festive Colours-Themed Non-School Uniform Day on Friday the 18th of December. On that day, students may come to school dressed in clothing of their own choice but we would like the clothing to consist of colours that are usually associated with any December celebration in your home country (e.g. Pancha Ganapati, Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule or any other traditional celebration, depending on your country of origin). We hope to create a colourful and festive atmosphere by letting everybody wear colours which reflects their own culture. It is optional to comply with this colour scheme but it is appreciated if your child joins in. Please remember that the rules of the school dress code will still be applied: all clothes should be of appropriate lengths, no holes in trousers, etc. Thank you for your cooperation, The Student Council Cari genitori, ******************************** Il consiglio studentesco ha deciso di organizzare una Giornata senza uniforme e a tema colori delle festività venerdì 18 Dicembre. Questo giorno, gli studenti possono vestirsi come vogliono ma sarebbe più interessante e preferibile da parte nostra se gli studenti vengono vestiti nei colori festivi del periodo intorno a Dicembre per il loro paese (per esempio Pancha Ganapati, Natale, Hanukkah, Yule o qualsiasi altra celebrazione dipendendo del paese d origine). Speriamo di creare un giorno colorato e una atmosfera festiva lasciando tutti vestirsi nei vestiti che rappresentano la loro cultura. 6 UPPER MYP 4& 5 (Grades 10/11) and Diploma (Grades 12/13) PARENT WORKSHOP NEW DATE: Thursday, January 13:30 THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF MODENA INVITES YOU TO THE INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP What is the educational program of the International Baccalaureate for ages An overview of the upper years of the MYP (Middle Years Programme) and DP (Diploma Programme) of the IB - International Baccalaureate, adopted by IS Modena for its students The workshop organized by the International School of Modena will take place on January 14 th 2016 from 1.30 to 2.45 pm to explain the features of the programmes offered to the students between the ages of 14 and 18. The workshop will be dual language, English and Italian. IS Modena has adopted the educational programs of the International Baccalaureate (IB), the international non-profit educational foundation offering its learning programs to over 4,000 schools and over 1.000,000 students worldwide. An IB education develops inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. The IB offers an innovative education providing the students with autonomy, knowledge and the skills needed to cope with modern-world challenges. Students at IS Modena follow the IB MYP for five years, from ages 11-16, followed by the IB Diploma Programme from ages The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. The IB Diploma programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. The Diploma is a prestigious award which is recognized and respected by the world s leading universities, and evidence suggests that higher rates of DP students go on to university and higher education study than non-ib students.
