4 ARCHITECT MASSIMILIANO FUKSAS Born in Rome 1944 of Lithunin bckground, Mssimilino Fukss grduted in rchitecture from the Spienz University of Rome in Fukss set up studio in Rome in 1967, followed by one in Pris He opened studio in Shenzhen, Chin, in One of the leders of the contemporry rchitecturl scene since the 1980s. He hs held the position of visiting professor t severl universities, such s the École Spécile d Architecture in Pris, the Akdemie der Bildenen Künste in Vienn, the Sttliche Akdemi der Bildenen Künste in Stuttgrt nd Columbi University in New York. Between 1998 nd 2000, he ws the director of the 7th Interntionl Architecture Exhibition in Venice. 5 INTRODUCTION GENERAL OVERVIEW Vorrei che tutti gurdssimo il mre, il trmonto cmminndo sui tetti sinuosi delle nostre cse. Vorrei che l cs fosse un luogo protetto e perto verso l orizzonte, con il cldo del cmino, perché - nche l inverno l cs è un cs e di giorno l forte luce dell Isol di Cpri immers nel Mediterrneo si filtrt m non nscond troppo i cieli lti, tersi, di un zzurro simile l colore dei ghiccii. M non si trtt del freddo, nzi, di un cldo e di un tepore che ci prepr ll lung stgione dell luce che v oltre i confini del giorno. In ltre prole vorrei che questo ngolo di Cpri fosse per il picere dell esistenz, l vogli di incontrre gli ltri e quell di un felice solitudine. Cmminre piedi, lunghe psseggite per ndre dove pochi ltri vnno, m sicurmente per dividere il tempo insieme verso l visione del domni. Geogrfi e pesggio sono l essenz del progetto, l rchitettur ne ccompgnerà soltnto i suggerimenti. Il nostro intervento si propone di riqulificre un delle ree piu nturli di Cpri prtendo dl completo recupero dell re dell Osservtorio Astronomico Dmecut ttrverso il riutilizzo di lcuni edifici ormi in disuso cercndo di interpretrli con un visione strtegic, complessiv e puntule nel contesto, con un linguggio che ssume crttere di ssolut contemporneità nell reinterpretzione di crtteristiche più che di crtteri, di volume come mss più che del costruito tipicmente cprese. L mggior fonte di ricchezz dell isol di Cpri rest il pesggio e il progetto punt sull cpcità di porre il costruito l centro di un strtegi in cui il territorio si l elemento primrio, inftti le costruzioni preesistenti si sviluppno in relzione ll mbiente nturle che si intende conservre senz interventi che modifichino l ndmento del terreno. L intervento rigurd l riqulificzione di un vecchio complesso stronomico situto in Ancpri, nell isol di Cpri (NA). I volumi sono inseriti ll interno di un prco del qule verrnno rispettte le essenze e vlorizzti gli spzi comuni. 6 CAPRI: IMAGE OF A DREAM Scrivere oggi di Cpri, qundo se n è scritto ll infinito e in tutte le lingue; prlre di quest isol, definit l più bell fr tutte le bellezze del creto; prlre degli uomini di primissimo pino che vi sono pprodti per pochi giorni, o per mesi, o per restrvi tutt l vit e che, mmliti dl suo fscino, hnno ftt diventre il slotto culturle ed estet del mondo; prlre dell indole dei suoi bitnti, gentili e tenci lvortori, h, oggi, il solo significto di trscrivere il vissuto umno di un secolo e mezzo di stori, in bse lle testimoninze di miglii di scrittori. I moderni vcnzieri che pprodno oggi, restno bocc pert dvnti l profilo dell isol e ll colortissime csette di Mrin Grnde, l celebre pizzett il slotto del mondo, o lle spigge. I turisti di oggi sono ffscinti dl pesggio o dl cnto delle sirene come i primi visittori del 700 e specilmente dell 800, che hnno creto il mito del celebre scoglio. Quest, che Normn Dougls definì L terr delle Sirene, offre dei vividi colori e il sogno dell su immgine. Le sue verdi pendici sono stte immortlte, ll fine del 700, dl tedesco Jcob Philipp Hckert e, nell prim metà dell 800, dl nostro Gicinto Gignte. A loro fece seguito, per tutto l 800 e l prim metà del 900 un generzione di pittori che hnno mto e vlorizzto l isol, e che rispondono i nomi di Witting, Crelli, Lnz, L Volpe, Smrgissi, De Gregorio, Csciro, Diefenbch, Migliro, Colemn, Prtell, Viti e tnti ltri i cui dipinti bbelliscono le sle del Museo Nzionle di Cpodimonte e il Museo Nzionle di Sn Mrtino. A metà 800 rriv Cpri l fotogrfi e mterilizz il sogno dell isol in binco e nero, moltiplicndol ll infinito e diffondendol in tutto il mondo: Jmes Grlhm, Robert Rive, Giorgio Sommer e poi i nostri Alinri e Brogi. L isol viene fotogrft in tutti i suoi ngoli, fotogrfno l vit dei pesctori e dei contdini, i mtrimoni, le feste di pizz e l rchitettur delle cse. Pittori, scultori, poeti, musicisti, intellettuli, scienziti, politici, e poi, regnnti, principi, sceicchi, nobili: tutti sono rimsti mmliti dll bellezz dolce e nello stesso tempo spr dell isol e dll cortesi dei suoi bitnti. Cpri è stt sempre sinonimo di trsgressione e di eccentricità. Erno inconfondibili per essere dipinti mno, per l ccostmento dei colori e per il gusto del loro cretore. 11 The interntionlly cclimed journl SKY AND TELESCOPE published specil issue on the solr observtory of Ancpri in its my 1966 edition. The dome less solr refrctor ws built in the mid-fifties by Crl Zeiss the renowned cmer nd lens mnufcturer bsed on the reserches nd b developments of Professor Krl Otto Kiepenheuer, founder of The Fruenhofer Institute, former West Germny. In order to void imge deteriortion cused by het flow round the telescope the objective ws plced more thn 20 meters bove ground level, the direct ffect of ground convection wre thus eliminted. Two tubes nd two mountings to house the telescope were constructed, the outer protected ginst wind nd wether while the inner crried the opticl telescope independently. Known on Cpri s the Germn observtory since it ws founded by the strophysicist Krl Otto von Kiepenheuer, who ws commissioned by the Germn government to find the optimum geogrphic loction for solr observtion s well s to crete the most visionry nd technicl design for telescope t tht time. Construction begn in the mid-fifties with the biggest nmes in the burgeoning industril mrket of technicl innovtors - Siemens nd Leitz t the forefront. Leitz supplied ll of the observtion equipment in prticulr the telescopic lenses nd Siemens (s pioneers of computer technology) provided ll of the observtory s computer hrdwre which t tht time were s bis s n entire room in fct, ll the countries newsppers were filled with descriptions of Herculen efforts to trnsport prts to the observrtory by severl specil trins nd then bots to the islnd. From the West nd surrounded by mjestic pines, the former Professor s House, further to the Est, the group of buildings formerly used by the scientists composed of the Torre de Sogni, the Cs dei Scienziti, the...nd the suite with its own Turkish bth nd the independent Wter-Room. Just few steps wy, the former telescope building, on top of which remins the originl Domeless Solr Refrctor, the most fmous telescope of the time. The existing originl mchinery nd complete furnishings of the building represent n idel setting for n innovtive Medicenter which still echoes the bygone scientific er. The most predominnt chrcteristic of the Estte is the ncient woodlnd, full of mjestic Pines with there striking cnopies, s well s towering Cypresses, hevily lden citrus trees, Olive tree groves, Almond blossoms, Fig trees, Broom bushes nd more. Growing in the dppled shde of the trees, crpet of wild herbs nd myrid flowers, the scents nd colors of which trnsform every seson. 41 THE MIRROR OF THE CONSTELLATIONS The pool, mirror of wter which juts out to the se, surrounded by nture nd formed by nturl rocks, becomes the plce for ll the residents of the stronomicl observtory to relx while observing the spectulr sunrices nd sunsets. The form of the pool follows the morphology of the rocks. Built of nturl stone nd the sme mterilsd s the surroundig re, the pool s border is level with the ground in order to crete sense of continuity with the surrounding lndscpe. 52 MATERIALI CHIAREZZA COSTRUTTIVA Le ville sono costruite con mterili per l mggior prte di origine nturle e di produzione locle. I mterili utilizzti sono di divers ntur, per i rivestimenti interni si verticli che orizzontli verrà utilizzto un rivestimento in intonco rustico. L murtur estern degli edifici verrà riqulifict e i colori srnno di tonlità pstello light. L crtterizzzione degli intonci storici,in prticolre l conoscenz dell ntur dei mterili dottti e dell loro provenienz non è solo importnte dl punto di vist storico, rcheologico e/o rtistico m riveste nche un ruolo fondmentle, nell ottic di un progettzione d intervento di resturo, comptibile con l situzione ttule degli edifici. L identificzione del tipo di legnte e del tipo di ggregto, oltre ll su distribuzione grnulometric, è di fondmentle importnz nell scelt dei mterili idonei d impiegre per il resturo dei mnuftti, intendendo, con il termine idonei, mterili con proprietà chimico-fisiche simili i mterili originri e che sino in grdo di riproporre gli effetti estetici dei mterili ntichi. L lvorzione d intonco rustico verrà estes nche i mobili in murtur con l inserimento delle pistrelle cpresi come elemento di decoro. Per l pvimentzione srnno utilizzti diversi mterili second dell destinzione d uso, per gli esterni è previst l pos di lstre di pietr locle oppure elementi in cotto in bse l mterile preesistente, invece per gli interni un pvimento in resin oppure costituito d pistrelle di crttere cprese. ARREDAMENTO & ALLESTIMENTO PROPOSTA DI ARREDO L rredo proposto per questi edifici rispecchi in prte le crtteristiche dell isol e in prte si distcc completmente cercndo di proiettrsi nell hi-tech con complementi di rredo dei grndi mestri dell rchitettur. Per qunto rigurd i rimndi verso l rchitettur cprese ritrovimo le splendide cermiche che diventno ornmento per i tvoli, per le sedute in murtur e le pvimentzioni. Invece per quello che rigurd l rredo più moderno ritrovimo divni come l EXTRA WALL di PIERO LISSONI, ISLAND di PA- OLA LENTI, SWAN SOFA di ARNE JACOBSEN e PURE SOFA di TRIBU. Per le sedute sono stti scelte sempre di Jcobsen l fmos EGG, l CITE ARMCHAIR di JEAN PROUVE, l NEUTRA ARMCHAIR di TRIBU, l BKF e l SURF di PAOLA LENTI per gli esterni; inoltre viene proposto oltre l set tvolo e sedie di SAARINEN nche tvolini bssi come quello di ISAMU NOGUCHI e quello di TRIBU. Per l re dell piscin invece trovimo un sistem di rredo di GANDIA BLASCO che comprende dybed, lettini e puff chill. Per i corpi illuminnti sono stti scelti quelli di IGUZZINI e di EILEEN GRAY con l su TUBE LIGHT. 49
