Vantaggio: migliora i tempi di esecuzione e l efficienza nel risparmio energetico. Ora ogni core puo completare 4 istruzioni contemporaneamente, contro le 3 delle cpu di generazione precedente caratteristica che ottimizza l uso della larghezza di banda disponibile per i dati migliorando le prestazioni del sistema in quanto minimizza la latenza di accesso alla memoria tecnologia che rende disponibile l intera cache L2 a ciascun core, unificandola. Il vantaggio e duplice: da una parte minimizza il traffico di dati rispetto ad una soluzione basata su due cache separate, dall altra permette ad un core di utilizzare l intera cache nel caso in cui l altro core sia inattivo permette di eseguire alcuni set di istruzioni in un solo ciclo di clock. Se quest ultima (ultra 320) permette lo scambio massimo di 320 MB di dati al secondo, con la nuova interfaccia SAS di fatto si ottiene uno scambio di 300 MB al secondo massimi per ogni disco, non per tutta la catena, eliminando il collo di bottiglia costituito a volte dall'interfaccia SCSI attuale. In quest ultima tecnologia i cavi utilizzati sono diversi dai precedenti; la connessione e ora point-to-point, ovvero ad un cavo puo essere connesso uno e un solo disco, con vantaggi prestazionali notevoli rispetto la tecnologia di precedente generazione.
