1 DIRECTORATE FOR QUALITY AND STANDARDS IN EDUCATION Department of Curriculum Management Educational Assessment Unit Annual Examinations for Secondary Schools 2014 LEVELS FORM 1 ITALIAN ORAL TIME: 6 minutes EXAMINER S PAPER Groups A & B i) Make the candidates feel at ease. ii) Remind candidates that in all three parts of this oral they are to speak naturally and show that they can produce flowing and connected speech not just single utterances or very short phrases. iii) Examiners are to ask two questions from Parte A, two questions from Parte B and one question from Parte C. 1. EXTENDED SPEECH Ask candidates to talk about a topic they have chosen. Ask the candidates to say which topic they have chosen and to speak about it. If you feel that the candidate has memorized work, interrupt him/her and ask your own questions: why s/he chose that particular topic, similar questions which help you understand whether the student has assimilated what s/he prepared or not. If student for some reason stops, help him/her by asking some relevant questions. 2. REAZIONE AD UN IMMAGINE 1. Explain to the students the purpose of this exercise: to note any important details, to describe what they see, to talk about what they are imagining while looking at the picture, etc. 2. Ask the student to talk about the picture: if at some point you realise that the student cannot continue, you can help him/her out by asking some of the questions printed on the back of this sheet. 3. In this part of the oral examination, candidates are expected to pronounce not less than five sentences. Candidates are to answer two questions from Parte A, two questions from Parte B and one question from Parte C. 3. CONVERSAZIONE LIBERA 1. Adapt the questions according to whether you are a male or a female. The candidate will do the same. 2. Examiners are to ask each candidate the questions given and/or allied ones covering the semantic areas and tenses in the questions set. 3. Remind candidates that they are to speak naturally and show that they can produce flowing and connected speech, not just single utterances and very short phrases. 4. In this conversation candidates are expected to pronounce not less than four sentences. Candidates are to answer two questions from Parte A, two questions from Parte B and one question from Parte C. Please follow the scheme below: Level 4 [0 2 marks] The student can: - make statements with reasonable accuracy using memorized utterances; - answer using simple words or very short phrases; - make telegraphic utterances using vocabulary that covers his elementary needs (vocabulary s/he already knows). Level 5 [3 6 marks] The student can: - make short, simple responses regarding familiar topics; - give information about him/herself; - engage in a short conversation using familiar vocabulary; - respond well to simple, personal needs; - use the negative form; - meet courtesy, introduction and identification requirements and exchange sample greetings. Kindly also read out aloud, translating if necessary, the instructions on the Candidate s Paper, before each exercise. Prova A Al safari 7 punti You are allowed one minute to look carefully at the picture on your examination paper. (Allow 1 minute) You shall be listening to seven statements that refer to the picture on your examination paper. Some of these statements are true, but others are false. You are to mark with an X in the appropriate column. I shall read the seven statements one by one and then, after the first reading I shall give you a minute to mark your answers. Then I shall read the statements a second and final time and you will have one minute for revision. You may take down short notes during both readings.
