For each stage we have the necessary experience to provide the client with assistance for the correct execution of the works within the set times. The innovation of our proposal is not only in the product offered, but also in the operating method. Our philosophy is focused on working with the client to identify the best solution for every situation, starting with a context survey and the identification of key variables. Our methods of engineering and manufacturing are based on concrete experience gained in the field and on the technical know-how for manufacturing products, their applications and production process. We take into account numerous variables, not just technical ones, such as the long-term life cycle cost of the superstructure, the construction times required or the need for skilled labour which may not be available locally. Both in the engineering, production and laying of the railway superstructure system and in the construction of systems for producing prestressed concrete sleepers and switch bearers, we have the know-how to offer clients various solutions depending on the specific needs encountered. 03 GUARDIAMO ALL ORIZZONTE. 5 In assessing which types of railway superstructure to offer, we pay particular attention to life cycle costs, aware of the fact that to evaluate the investment it is necessary to take into account not only the initial installation costs but also all the costs linked to the superstructure throughout its service life. We have engineered, created and laid different types of superstructure over the years, and we know all their strengths and weaknesses which is why we do not tie a project down to one particular type but try to identify the best solution for each section. Nella valutazione delle tipologie di armamento ferroviario da proporre teniamo in particolare considerazione il costo del ciclo di vita, consapevoli che per valutare l investimento sia necessario considerare non solo i costi iniziali di installazione, ma i costi connessi all intera vita di un armamento. Abbiamo progettato, realizzato e posato negli anni diversi tipi di armamento e ne conosciamo forze e debolezze, per questo non vincoliamo il progetto a una tipologia in particolare ma individuiamo di volta in volta la soluzione ottimale. ENGINEERING Our engineering is based on concrete experience gained in the field and on the technical know-how of products, their applications and production process. Our engineering departments are specialized in the engineering of the following aspects: - the line - the reinforced and prestressed concrete elements - the manufacturing system for their production They can also execute preliminary, definitive and executive track system engineering, based on the relative technical specifications and sector standards in force in the country of execution. PROGETTAZIONE La nostra progettazione si fonda sull esperienza concreta sul campo e sul know-how tecnico dei prodotti, delle loro applicazioni e del loro processo produttivo. I nostri reparti ingegneria sono specializzati nella progettazione su differenti livelli: - della linea - dei manufatti in calcestruzzo armato o precompresso - dell impianto produttivo per la loro produzione Sono inoltre in grado di realizzare la progettazione di massima, definitiva ed esecutiva dell armamento, sulla base delle specifiche tecniche e della normativa di settore vigente nel Paese, realizzando diverse soluzioni. 05

6 During the engineering stage all the specific characteristics of each section of the route are taken into consideration and the best choice of track system for each section is highlighted from the very beginning, based on indications such as: - axle load - gauge - presence of tunnels or viaducts - limited spaces - the need to dampen vibrations - noise emission abatement requirements - presence of uneven routes and/or tight bends Furthermore, in our Bergamo plant, a team of engineers is dedicated to testing and simulations, making it possible to improve the performance of our products and create innovation for ballastless superstructures, vibration damping and type approval procedures in compliance with the most important international standards. In particular, a lot of attention is given to reducing vibration levels, a phenomenon which, when not adequately controlled, has a negative impact on residential areas located along the railway line and near stations. Nella progettazione vengono tenute in conto le specifiche caratteristiche del tracciato e viene evidenziata fin da subito la scelta ottimale dell armamento, sulla base di indicazioni quali: - carico per asse - scartamento - presenza di gallerie e viadotti - spazi ridotti - necessità di attenuazione delle vibrazioni - esigenza di contenimento del rumore - presenza di tracciati irregolari e/o curve strette Inoltre, nel nostro stabilimento di Bergamo, un team di ingegneri si dedica a sperimentazioni e simulazioni che permettano di migliorare le performance dei nostri prodotti e creare innovazione, sui temi dell armamento ballastless, del contenimento delle vibrazioni, dei processi di omologa secondo i più importanti standard internazionali. In particolare, grande attenzione è rivolta al tema dell abbattimento del livello delle vibrazioni, fenomeno che può impattare, se non controllato, sui centri abitati presenti lungo la linea ferroviaria e in corrispondenza delle stazioni. 06 The impact of vibrations is analyzed by means of both in-field experimental surveying and through the use of the latest in vibration prediction and measuring models (PiP and FEM). Engineering also takes into account variables such as the life cycle cost, the construction times and the need for skilled labour or manpower which may not be available locally. Once the best superstructure solution has been selected, our team of engineers designs the individual elements, identifying the best production system also based on local standards (AREMA, UIC, GOST, etc.). Furthermore the team can engineer the production area including warehousing facilities and production lines. La progettazione tiene conto anche di variabili quali il costo del ciclo di vita, i tempi richiesti e la presenza di manodopera specializzata o non presente localmente. Una volta effettuata la scelta dell armamento migliore, il team di ingegneria progetta i singoli manufatti individuando il miglior sistema di produzione in base anche alla normativa locale (Arema, UIC, Gost, ecc.). È inoltre in grado di progettare l area produttiva comprensiva di capannone e linee di produzione.

In fact, WEGH Group has a high level of expertise - as shown by the numerous references from all over the world - in the construction of complete systems for the production of all the prefabricated prestressed concrete elements needed for railway superstructures (sleepers, switch bearers, slabs). Each system is customized based on the many local variables that can make a difference (climate, installation space and the availability and quality of raw materials), starting with a basic, highly reliable and engineered design. 8 We can build systems using both Long-Line and Carousel (short-line) technology: we know the pros and cons of both systems and together with the client we can assess which technology best suits each individual project. Siamo in grado di realizzare impianti sia con tecnologia Long- Line che Carosello (short-line): conosciamo pregi e difetti di entrambi i sistemi e siamo in grado di valutare insieme al cliente la tecnologia da preferire di volta in volta. In general, Carousel-type systems require less installation space and have a higher degree of automation, with an important role played by electronics. In generale, gli impianti della tipologia a Carosello occupano meno spazio e presentano un grado di automazione più elevato, con un ruolo importante svolto dall elettronica. On the other hand, the adherent wire system, characteristic of Long-Line systems, is cheaper thanks to: - the use of components as they appear on the market, hence no transformation process or special accessories are required; - lower labour costs as there is a lower need for skilled workers; - cheaper moulds; - simple maintenance; - quick maintenance intervention times as spares are readily available locally, an advantage which is keenly felt in those countries where customs problems may be encountered; - as a result of all the above points, greater average annual output. Al contrario, il sistema a fili aderenti, proprio degli impianti Long-Line, è economicamente più vantaggioso per: - l uso di componenti nello stato in cui sono reperibili sul mercato e che quindi non necessitano di alcun processo di trasformazione o di accessori particolari - un minor costo del lavoro per l impiego di minor manodopera specializzata - un minor costo dei casseri - la semplicità di manutenzione - un pronto intervento manutentivo per la facilità di reperire i ricambi localmente, vantaggio evidente specie nei Paesi che presentano problematiche doganali - come conseguenza dei punti precedenti, una maggiore produttività media annua. 08 The Long-Line system also makes it possible to achieve more uniform prestressing and hence a higher quality standards. Our systems are engineered and built to produce the various concrete elements which make up the railway superstructure: - Arianna slabs - precast elements for floating mass systems - sleepers and switch bearers In all cases, the design and production contemplate adaptation to the required rail fastening system (Pandrol, Vossloh, Denik, etc.). 9 LAYING For years we have been laying both ballastless systems and conventional systems with reinforced concrete sleepers on ballast. The project is engineered to reduce operating times on the line to an absolute minimum, manufacturing the elements and most of the construction steps in the production plant. POSA Posiamo da anni sistemi ballastless e sistemi tradizionali con traverse in calcestruzzo armato su ballast. L intervento è progettato per ridurre al minimo i tempi di lavoro in linea realizzando in stabilimento gli elementi e la maggior parte dei passaggi. ASSISTANCE For all the work stages, from engineering, to production and to laying, we can simply provide the client with the necessary assistance for coordinating the operations providing support for the client in the various activities envisaged in the project, using our specialized resources to assist the local work force. Assistance is a service conceived specifically to meet the needs of clients who need an experienced partner, keeping costs down and promoting the use of local manpower to promote the economic development of the areas involved in the project. More specifically, WEGH Group s specialized team of technicians and engineers can: - support the client in checking the preliminary and executive project design - carry out topographic surveys - define the technical specifications of materials - train personnel - work alongside the local team and coordinate it in the building of the superstructure and during laying operations - coordinate the works with the companies dealing with other line components (e.g. rolling stock, civil engineering works). 10 Our railway superstructure systems A country s railway network must enhance the circulation of people and goods, link up the main economic and social centres and contribute to development. Therefore the line, and consequently the superstructure, must serve its environment. It must not impose on it, but respect it and increase its potential. Consequently it may be necessary to adopt different solutions along different sections of the route, or identify one type of superstructure which is suitable for the whole line. Ecco quindi che la linea, e l armamento ferroviario, devono essere al servizio dell ambiente circostante. Non sovrastarlo, ma rispettarlo e ampliarne le potenzialità. Per questo può essere necessario adottare soluzioni diverse nei diversi punti del tracciato oppure individuare un unica tipologia di armamento idonea per l intera linea. 12 ARIANNA R-SLAB SYSTEM Arianna is a ballastless system made using prefabricated, prestressed reinforced concrete slabs which are laid on a foundation with the insertion of a special bedding slab which ensures that the slab track is resting on an even and uniform surface, compensating for any irregularities in the foundation. ARIANNA R-SLAB SYSTEM Arianna è un sistema ballastless costituito da piattaforme prefabbricate in calcestruzzo armato precompresso appoggiate su una fondazione di base, con l interposizione di uno speciale massetto di allettamento, che garantisce alla piattaforma un appoggio regolare e omogeneo, compensando le irregolarità della fondazione. Straight type section / Sezione in retto TRACK AXIS TOP OF RAIL 12 Curve type section / Sezione in curva TOP OF RAIL TRACK AXIS Arianna R-SLAB is the ballastless solution designed specifically for railway lines and is particularly suitable for: - passenger lines - high-speed lines - tunnels (for safety reasons) - viaducts where it can reduce the overall weight of the structure - reducing maintenance costs Arianna does not require the maintenance operations usually associated with conventional lines such as ballast tamping, levelling, cleaning and renewal (an important aspect especially for stations). Arianna R-SLAB è la soluzione ballastless ideata appositamente per le linee ferroviarie ed è adatta in particolare: - per le linee di trasporto passeggeri - per le linee ad alta velocità - per motivi di sicurezza nei tratti in galleria - su viadotto, perché permette di recuperare sul peso complessivo dell opera - per i ridotti costi di manutenzione Arianna non necessita infatti delle tradizionali operazioni di manutenzione riguardanti rincalzatura del ballast, livellamento, pulizia e risanamento (elemento importante specie nelle stazioni).

13 The Arianna system is available in the standard version as well as the Arianna+ version. While the standard version meets antivibration characteristics comparable to a conventional ballast system, the Arianna+ version has been designed specifically for those situations where high performance is needed in terms of vibration damping in key points of the route, for example, near housing, in sections running through tunnels which may interfere with sensitive points, or in stations. Il sistema Arianna è proposto in versione standard e nella versione plus. Mentre la versione standard risponde a caratteristiche antivibrazionali paragonabili al ballast, la versione Arianna+ è studiata per i casi in cui siano necessarie elevate prestazioni per ridurre le vibrazioni, in punti nevralgici del tracciato, per vicinanza con il centro abitato, tratti in galleria che interferiscono con punti sensibili, o nelle stazioni. 14 FLOATING SLAB SYSTEM CONTINUOUS SUPPORT This is a type of superstructure made up of a cast-in-place reinforced concreted slab, with embedded prefabricated elements (e.g. sleepers) and a seamless bed laid under the cast concrete. SISTEMA MASSIVO FLOTTANTE Il massivo flottante è una tipologia di armamento composto da un solettone in calcestruzzo armato gettato in opera, con elementi prefabbricati (es. traverse) annegati all interno e un materassino continuo posto sotto al getto. This system is adopted when it is important to drastically reduce vibrations. As a result, it is suitable for stations or other areas where the line runs through the heart of the city. È un sistema adottato quando si vogliono ridurre particolarmente le vibrazioni. Per questo è adatto soprattutto alle stazioni o alle zone in cui la linea ferroviaria entra nel cuore delle città. 15 SLEEPERS WITH BALLAST Sleepers represent the type of superstructure which is traditionally the most widely used throughout the world for railway lines. They require a lower initial investment compared to ballastless systems and naturally favour drainage of rainwater and noise abatement. However, ballast, by nature, has a tendency to shift: this means that maintenance operations, although simple, have to be carried out at frequent intervals to tamp the ballast and adjust rail geometries over time. TRAVERSE CON BALLAST Le traverse rappresentano la tipologia di armamento tradizionalmente più diffusa in tutto il mondo nelle linee ferroviarie. Richiedono un investimento iniziale più contenuto rispetto ai sistemi ballastless, favoriscono naturalmente il drenaggio dell acqua piovana, oltre che l attenuazione del rumore. Tuttavia il ballast è soggetto per sua natura a spostamenti: ciò comporta la necessità di frequenti, anche se semplici, interventi di manutenzione per la rincalzatura e l aggiustamento nel tempo delle geometrie di binario. 17 RFI 230 P and RFI 230 V RFI 230 sleepers are used on conventional lines and are 230 cm long with a maximum width at the base of 30 cm. For securing the rail to the sleeper, the P version is produced with the Pandrol 4944 moulded steel fasteners already incorporated, whereas the V version is made with the polyethylene anchors needed to install Vossloh W14 fasteners.
