1 Newsletter n 8 - October Dear IS Modena families, Open Day once more a successful and busy day! What an amazing and long week we ve just had! Saturday s Open Day was a great success with 24 families visiting our school! The scheduled tours of our campus have run very smoothly, thanks to the great support from everyone involved! A huge thank you to our super efficient office team and teachers, super parents (Claudia B., Claudia S., Hilmary L. & Nicola G.) and incredibly prepared school Ambassadors, our students (Isabella, Tommaso G, Federico, Emma, Martina, Isla, Anna Viktoria, Priscilla, Francesca, Sylvie, Josie, Matilde, Costanza, Jacopo and our Grade 13 Alice, Andrea and Martina). Visitors had the opportunity of living what IS Modena is all about a unique international environment, vibrant and lively - with a special, diverse and united school community! - MYP (Middle Years Programme) Workshop - Understanding MYP assessment for ISM parents - Today, from 12:45 to 13:45 (English) and 14:00 to 15:00 (Italian) in the DP History room. Ms. Chiara Forti, our Middle Years Coordinator will be holding a parents workshop to introduce assessment in the MYP Programme. OCTOBER BOOK CLUB: Dear Parents, thanks to your Scholastic online orders, the school could choose 26 fiction, non-fiction and picture books for our library! An amazing result, thank you! Invitation from Grade 10 students Dear Parents, As part of our Service as Action, we have decided to work as a group and create a project open to both parents and teachers, which links with what we have currently been learning in Biology. This is how we can maintain a healthy lifestyle by looking after our hearts. We would like to invite any parents who would like to participate on the 17 th and 24 th of October at 15:15 in the school entrance or in Diploma Science lab if raining, where we will measure your heart rate and blood pressure, to see if your heart is within the healthy range. We hope to see you there, The Grade 10 Students. School activity starts at 8:30 we still have too many students arriving at school late! We kindly remind you that school days start at 8:30 sharp. Which means the school activity will begin exactly at 8:30 and any late comers will be disrupting class. Please try to make an effort and come in before 8:30 am, children can be dropped off from 8:15 onwards or earlier if necessary and wait in the school entrance. PYP Parent/teacher conferences scheduled for November 8 & 10 : appointment schedule will be shared this week. Halloween celebrations this Friday PYP party from 15:15 to 16:45, MYP Party from 17:00 to 18:30 - keep on reading and don t miss the Student Council information on the Halloween Parties. There will be no Lego club and Pre-Gymnastics club on Friday afternoon. 2 Newsletter n 8-24 ottobre 2016 Gent.me Famiglie IS Modena, Open Day ancora un successo! Che lunga e bellissima settimana abbiamo appena avuto! L Open Day di sabato è stato un grande successo, con 24 famiglie che hanno fatto visita alla scuola. I tour del campus si sono svolti come da programma, grazie al grande supporto da parte di tutte le persone coinvolte. Un ringraziamento speciale va ai nostri super efficienti insegnanti e segretarie, ai super genitori (Claudia B., Claudia S., Hilmary L. & Nicola G.) e agli ambasciatori della scuola, incredibilmente ben preparati, i nostri studenti (Isabella, Tommaso G, Federico, Emma, Martina, Isla, Anna Viktoria, Priscilla, Francesca, Sylvie, Josie, Matilde, Costanza, Jacopo e, del Grade 13, Alice, Andrea e Martina). I visitatori hanno avuto l opportunità di vivere in prima persona un esperienza di ambiente internazionale, vivo e vicace, con una comunità scolastica unita, speciale e diversificata, che contraddistinguono la ISModena! MYP Workshop - comprendere le valutazioni nel programma MYP delle Medie per genitori IS Modena dalle ore 12:45-13:45 in inglese e dalle 14 alle 15 in italiano. Ms. Chiara Forti, Coordinatrice del Programma delle Medie, terrà il workshop informativo per comprendere le valutazioni nel Programma MYP. BOOK CLUB DI OTTOBRE: Cari Genitori, grazie ai vostri ordini online a Scholastic, la scuola ha ricevuto ben 26 libri di narrativa, non-fiction ed illustrati per la nostra biblioteca! Un risultato incredibile, grazie! Invito da parte degli studenti di Grade 10 Gentili Genitori, Nell ambito del nostro Service as Action, abbiamo deciso di lavorare in gruppo e realizzare un progetto aperto ai genitori e agli insegnanti che si colleghi con quanto stiamo apprendendo in Biologia. Il tema è il mantenimento di uno stile di vita salutare prestando attenzione al nostro cuore. Vorremmo invitare i genitori a partecipare nei giorni 17 e 24 ottobre alle ore 15:15 all entrata della scuola oppure nel laboratorio di Biologia DP, qualora dovesse piovere, a misurare il battito cardiaco e la pressione sanguigna per verificare che il Vostro cuore rientri nei parametri di salute. Ci auguriamo di vedervi numerosi. Gli studenti di Grade 10 L attività scolastica inizia alle 8:30 ci sono ancora troppi studenti che arrivano tardi. Vi ricordiamo che le giornate scolastiche iniziano puntualmente alle ore 8:30. Questo significa che l attività scolastica inizia esattamente alle 8:30 e i ritardatari interrompono l attività della classe. Vi chiediamo di arrivare a scuola prima delle 8:30, i bambini possono essere lasciati dalle 8:15. Per eventuali necessità gli studenti possono arrivare prima e attendere nell atrio della scuola. Gli appuntamenti per gli incontri genitori/insegnanti in programma l 8 e 10 novembre verranno condivisi questa settimana. Feste di Halloween questo venerdì PYP dalle 15:15 alle 16:45 e MYP dale 17:00 alle 18:30 continuate a leggere per non perdervi le informazioni del Consiglio Studentesco sulle Feste di Halloween. Il Lego club e club di Pre-ginnastica non si terranno questo venerdì. 4 The ISM Student Council and the PTA are proud to bring you the 2016 Annual Halloween Party! This year, the Halloween Party will take place on Friday, the 28th of October. The party is open to students from Grades 2 upwards and will feature games, music, dancing, snacks, drinks and fun. It will take place at school and will be divided in two parts. Grade 2 to Grade 6 will celebrate from 15:15 to 16:45, whereas Grade 7 upwards will celebrate from 17:00 to 18:30. Students in Kindergarten, Transition and Grade 1 will be enjoying their afternoon with a 'Trick or Treat' walk around school, which will happen during school hours. Also, all students are welcome to come to school in a Halloween-themed costume, both for the parties and during school on the 28th! Please note that costumes may not be too revealing, feature weapons, fake blood or be overly gruesome. Si svolgerà a scuola e sarà suddiviso in due momenti: le classi da Grade 2 a Grade 6 festeggeranno dalle 15:15 alle 16:45, mentre le classi da Grade 7 in su festeggeranno dalle 17:00 alle 18:30. Gli studenti di Kindergarten, Transition e Grade 1 trascorreranno il pomeriggio facendo una camminata per la scuola per il dolcetto o scherzetto, durante l orario scolastico. Inoltre, tutti gli studenti sono invitati a venire a scuola indossando un costume di Halloween, venerdì 28 ottobre, sia per la festa sia durante l orario scolastico! Per favore non indossate costumi non appropriati (ad esempio troppo corti o scollati), che includano armi, sangue finto o che siano troppo macabri. 5 Coming up in arrivo Parent/Teacher Conferences, 3 way conferences (student-parent-teacher) Taken from the IS Modena Student/Parent Handbook Twice each year the school schedules conferences to give parents, teachers and students an opportunity to discuss the growth and progress of each student. Learning is a three-way partnership and to best reflect this some parents evenings will include the student as well as the parents and teacher to enable a three-way conversation about the student s learning. This will ensure all parties share the same understanding of the student s achievement and of how the student can best progress further. Three way conferences are based on time of year and age of the students. Please check below for which conferences are three-way and which are traditional parents only conferences. All conferences are by appointment and parents will be notified of the times of their meetings in advance. L apprendimento è una collaborazione a tre e per meglio riflettere ciò alcune serate con i genitori coinvolgeranno lo studente insieme a genitori e insegnante per favorire la conversazione a tre riguardante l apprendimento dello studente. Questo assicurerà a tutti i coinvolti di condividere le stesse idee sui traguardi raggiunti dello studente e come lo studente stesso possa fare ulteriori progressi. I colloqui a tre si basano sul periodo dell anno e all età dello studente. Per favore controllate di seguito quali colloqui sono a tre e quali sono i tradizionali colloqui solo con i genitori.
