3 FNB BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2013 The annual FNB Business Excellence Awards was held on Thursday 21 st November at The Wanderer s Club in Illovo,. In its 14 th year and sponsored by First National Bank since 2009, the annual ceremony is organised by the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries to recognise the contribution of Italian-South African businesses to South Africa s economic growth and development. Annually, FNB and the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries encourage enterprises and entrepreneurs based in South Africa with links to Italy, to take part in this prestigious competition to showcase their contribution to stimulating economic growth in the country. H. E. Mr Vincenzo Schioppa The Ambassador of Italy to South Africa Mr Gabriele Di Muzio The Consul General - Antonio Cimato The Chairperson of Italian South African Chamber of Trade and Industries - and Giulio Mulas - The director of the office Ice - were present at the ceremony. The independent jury, composed of four external judges - Themba Mabizela of FNB, Riccardo Fanelli of SACE, Luigi Stravino of BLC Plant Company and Roberto Marcer of Simarca Chartered Accountants - examined and analysed each of the finalists individually before selecting this year s winners. This year s category winners are: Young Upcoming Entrepreneur of the Year: Mr. Tato Carello - Carello Autobody Mr. Tato Carello runs Carello Autobody, one of South Africa s leading structural repairers of the world s most prestigious sports car brands (including Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley). The judging panel chose to award this young entrepreneur for his passion and dedicated commitment to the highest quality of service and workmanship. Business Enterprise of the Year: SMEG South Africa SMEG was founded in 1948 by a family of entrepreneurs who, with great passion, know-how and never-ending search for excellence succeeded in developing a solid firm which continues growing. For more than 65 years this company has imported Italian style, elegance and creativity to South Africa which is recognized all over the world. Business Person of the Year: Mr. Antonio Iozzo - Insurance Underwriting Managers (Pty) Ltd - Meadow Star Investments He runs Insurance Underwriting Managers (Pty) Ltd, a short-term insurance underwriting business and a property development company called Meadow Star Investments. He employs 149 people in his companies. Three further awards were presented to honour Italian-South African persons who are distinguished for merits over and above business.

4 The prize for the category of the Lifetime Recognition Award was awarded to Mr. Piero Rossi. He has been involved in the Italian Club Pretoria since the early 90s, and been Chairman of the Main Club - Piero has been actively involved in the soccer section since 1976 and in the Bocce section for more than 20years. He also represented South Africa in the World Bocce Tournament in Welkom in The Italian Ambassador H. E. Mr Vincenzo Schioppa presented the Honorary Chairperson Award to Vera Giovitto. She is the Italian artist who brought sophisticated mastery of mosaic to South Africa. Vera has been refining her art for more than 40 years and the company Mosaic Art is now popular worldwide. Chairperson's Excellence Award. This prize went to Marcello Fiasconaro who set a world-record in the 800m track event in He was awarded by Antonio Cimato, Chairperson of Italian - South African Chamber of Trade and Industries. During the evening a special section was dedicated to those persons who brought a piece of Italy to South Africa through the truly distinct flavours of Italian cuisine. In this spirit, the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries invited on stage 25 Italian restaurants to be awarded the prestigious seal "Italian Hospitality, Italian Restaurants in the World". A special thank you has to be made to Gareth Cliff who was the master of ceremonies and most entertaining, as well as John Demartini who was the guest speaker. Finally, to demonstrate their commitment to community upliftment, FNB and the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries also used the event to raise funds for charity. This year s proceeds went to LITTLE EDEN, a no-profit organisation which helps people with intellectual disability. Tickets were sold both in the weeks prior to the event and during the event and the draw was held on stage. 5 FNB BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2013 FNB e la Camera di Commercio italo-sudafricana di hanno celebrato giovedì 21 novembre 2013, la quattordicesima edizione degli FNB Business Excellence Awards. L evento si è svolto al The Wanderer s Club di Illovo. Come al solito, fondamentale ragione per riunirsi e stato il desiderio di riconoscere e premiare il contributo della comunità imprenditoriale italo-sudafricana alla crescita economica del Sudafrica. Secondo tradizione, FNB e la Camera di Commercio italosudafricana hanno invitato una rosa di imprenditori e imprese, legati all Italia tramite vincoli commerciali e familiari, a prendere parte in una animata competizione ed essere giudicati in base ai successi ottenuti nel corso del Presenti alla cerimonia l Ambasciatore italiano in Sud Africa Vincenzo Schioppa, il Console Generale Gabriele Di Muzio, il Presidente della Camera Di Commercio italo-sudafricana Antonio Cimato ed il direttore della sede Ice Giulio Mulas. La giuria indipendente, composta da quattro giudici esterni - Themba Mabizela di FNB, Riccardo Fanelli di SACE, Luigi Stravino di BLC Plant Company e Roberto Marcer di Simarca Chartered Accountants - hanno esaminato ed analizzato in modo dettagliato ognuno dei finalisti prima di stabilire i vincitori. Quest anno le categorie premiate sono state: Young Upcoming Entrepreneur of the Year: Mr. Tato Carello - Carello Autobody - Mr. Tato Carello non solo non ha ancora compiuto 40 anni d età ma è anche a capo della Carello Autobody, struttura leader nella riparazione di autoveicoli che lavora con alcune delle case automobilistiche più prestigiose del mondo (incluse Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini e Bentley). SMEG fu fondata nel 1948 da una famiglia di imprenditori che, grazie alla dedizione, all abilità e alla ricerca tecnica hanno costruito un azienda solida e in continua crescita. Da più di 65 anni. 6 Così il premio Lifetime Recognition Award è stato assegnato a Piero Rossi, il quale si è distinto per il grande impegno nel gestire l Italian Club di Pretoria e per i notevoli meriti sportivi: è stato attivamente coinvolto sia nel calcio che nel gioco delle bocce e nel 2000 ha partecipato al Torneo Mondiale di Bocce di Walkom come rappresentante del Sudafrica. Invece l Honorary Chairperson s Award, è andato alla talentuosa artista italiana Vera Giovitto che ha portato in Sudafrica la fine arte del mosaico e ha qui fondato,più di 40 anni fa, una compagnia oggi conosciuta in tutto il mondo: la Mosaic Art. Il premio è stato assegnato da S. E. l Ambasciatore italiano in Sudafrica, Vincenzo Schioppa. Infine quest anno è stato assegnato un nuovo premio: il Chairperson's Excellence Award. Tale premio è andato a Marcello Fiasconaro, il quale si è distinto come atleta per aver segnato nel 1973 un record negli 800 metri piani. E stato premiato da Antonio Cimato, Presidente della Camera di Commercio italo - sudafricana. La serata è stata anche un ottima occasione per premiare 25 ristoratori che, attraverso i veri sapori della cucina italiana, hanno portato l italianità in Sudafrica e sono per questo stati insigniti del prestigioso Marchio Ospitalità Italiana. Uno speciale ringraziamento va fatto agli ospiti d onore: Gareth Cliff, che ha magistralmente condotto la serata facendo divertire tutti gli ospiti e John Demartini come ospite. Infine, come ogni anno, l evento è stato anche un modo per fare della beneficenza. Grazie alla vendita dei biglietti della lotteria, FNB e la Camera di Commercio italo - sudafricana hanno potuto infatti donare Rand a LITLLE EDEN, associazione attiva nella tutela delle persone affette da deficit mentali. 8 INTERNATIONAL FAIR OF ADDIS ABABA 2014 On the occasion of the XVIII edition of the "Addis Chamber International Trade Fair", ICE, the agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian firms, decided to organize an Italian space at the fair and to offer essential services to participating companies, like coordinating the activities of communications and offering a logistics coverage through equipped desk. The reasons for the ICE offering this opportunity are to look at building relationship with favorable economic conditions in Ethiopia: GDP growth, cheap labor, abundant energy resource and a new airport development. The country is also part of the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development since the 1986, a commercial and political organization formed by the countries of the Horn of Africa, and thus can be a "gateway" to the trade to the rest of the area. The sectors concerned are mainly : - Agro-industry, - Agribusiness, - Renewable Energy and Environment, - Building, - Metalworking, - Oil & Gas, - Medical and Pharmaceutical Equipments. 9 XXII World Convention of the Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad From November 9 to 12 the XXII World Convention of the Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad was held in Monza, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Monza and Brianza, Unioncamere and Assocamerestero, with the sponsorship of Expo The convention saw the participation of 78 Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad, 105 national Chamber, and other partecipation among various associations, professionals, institutions, private companies and consortia, given the importance of the event representing the Italian-Southafrican Chamber of Commerce the secretary MariaGrazia Biancospino partecipated at the event. Dal 9 al 12 novembre a Monza si é tenuta la XXII Convention mondiale delle Camere di Commercio Italiane all Estero, organizzata dalla Camera di Commercio di Monza e Brianza, Unioncamere e Assocamerestero, con il patrocinio di Expo La convention ha visto la partecipazione di 78 camere di commercio italiane all estero, 105 camere nazionali, e svariate partecipazioni tra associazioni di categoria, professionisti, istituzioni, aziende private e consorzi, data l importanza dell evento in rappresentanza della Camera di Commercio Italo- Sudafricana il segretario generale MariaGrazia Biancospino ha partecipato all evento.

10 Marchio Ospitalitá Italiana Certification Awards 2013/2014 The Marchio Ospitalita Italiana project was initiated and launched in Italy in 1997 by the Unioncamere and ISNART (National Institute for Tourism Research), in collaboration with Fipe (Italian Federation of Public Enterprises) and the Italian Chambers of Commerce (CCIE) active throughout the world. The gala was held in the presence of over 350 guests and was attended by the Ambassador H.E. Mr. Vincenzo Schioppa, the Italian Consul Gabriele Di Muzio, the director of the office Ice Giulio Mulas, the director of the Sace Richard Fanelli and CEO of FNB Mike Vacy -Lyle. Twenty-five Italian restaurants have been awarded the label "Italian Hospitality, Restaurants In The World" at the FNB Business Excellence Awards 2013 event at its XVII edition, set up to reward Italian entrepreneurs and businesses who have distinguished themselves in the South African territory. 11 Marchio Ospitalitá Italiana Certification Awards 2013/2014 Among the restaurants of South Africa who have met the selection criteria, 15 were certified in 2013, while 10 others, who were awarded the seal in the course of the previous editions. This year also saw the recertification of their excellence. The twenty-five restaurants that have been awarded this prestigious award were selected from among the many that have applied and submitted the necessary documentation to be certified. The various demands, with its dossier, have been the subject of careful consideration of the special Committee of Certification in Rome. The objectives of the project Marchio Ospitalitá Italiana, Italian Restaurants in the World" are: - Develop and promote the traditions of Italian food products and enhancing the Italian food and wine; - Enhance the image of Italian restaurants abroad that guarantee the fulfillment of quality standards of Italian hospitality; - To create an international network that enables the creation of promotional events in favor of Italian excellence. - Emphasize the role of food as a means to promote Italian in the world. - Protecting the Made in Italy - Tackling the phenomenon of sounding, or the combination of an Italian name counterfeit products (es. parmasao reggiano) The award-winning restaurants for this year and previous years are highlighted in the following pages with all relevant information:

13 Marchio Ospitalitá Italiana Certification Awards 2013/2014 Tra i ristoranti del Sud Africa che hanno soddisfatto i criteri di selezione, 15 hanno ottenuto la certificazione nel 2013, mentre altri 10, che sono stati insigniti del marchio nel corso delle passate edizioni, hanno visto riconfermata anche quest anno la loro eccellenza.
