1 a) FLOWERS WITH RAFFIA Fiori con la rafia What you need: * glue stick * cottonwool * strips of crepe paper cut so that the paper yields, mm wide * sepals of crepe paper cut as shown in the photo below * guttaperca - a special tape for tieing small ornamental bunches and putting them on clothes * very thin wire * stronger (iron, brass or copper) wire for stems * natural raffia or Pirca, opened and wound round pieces of cardboard * pliers: nippers: fig 10 a-1) Che cosa ti serve: * colla stick e trasparente rapida * cotone idrofilo * striscioline di carta crespa tagliate nel senso che la carta cede alte mm * sepali sempre di carta crespa tagliati come quelli della foto sotto * guttaperca è un nastro adesivo per mazzolini da mettere su abiti o stoffe * filo di ferro o di rame sottilissimo * filo di ferro o rame o ottone più robusto per i gambi * rafia naturale o Pirca, preparata aperta avvolta su pezzetti di cartone * pinze: tronchesino e tuttotondo: fig 10 a-1) Stick Quick glue Thin wire Wool cotton Sepals Wire for the stems Guttaperca Pliers.. 4 Poppies and daisies -Papaveri e margherite Anemoni The small roses. These were made, like the crepe paper leaves, as shown above: a-2). Instead the leaves of the small bunches are pieces of opened raffia. The sepals are also of crepe paper: see the first photo Le roselline, come le foglie di carta crespa, sono state create come descritte sopra: a-2). Invece le foglie dei mazzolini sono sempre dei pezzi di rafia aperta. I sepali sono sempre di carta crespa: vedi foto all inizio. A small bunch: green anemone: Some dark petals have been put in its centre, like the daisy. Mazzolino :anemone verde intorno al suo cuore sono posti dei petali più scuri come quelli della margherita. 4

5 These small roses have been made with a ribbon of opened raffia wound round the initial bud: this is also the technique used for the Pirca ribbon. Queste roselline sono state create con un nastro di rafia aperta, avvolto sul bocciolo iniziale: questa è anche la tecnica usata per il nastro Pirca. 5

7 In order to make big petals, like those of the poppies and anemones, join two pieces of raffia and then cut the shape: see fig. 12 a-2. Per creare grandi petali come quelli dei papaveri e degli anemoni unisci due pezzetti di nastro e poi ne tagli la forma: vedi fig. 12 a-2. Two ways to cut petals more quickly both with raffia and the Pirca. Due modi per creare dei petali più velocemente sia con la raffia che con il Pirca. Centres of the flowers: see the one shown in fig 2 table a-1. Another method is to make an accordion with the closed raffia, tighten it well with thin wire and then cut the points of one of the two parts of the centre in half. Most of the centres of the small bunches are made using this method. Cuori dei fiori: vedi quello indicato dalla figura 2 della tavola a-1). Un altro modo è quello di creare una fisarmonica con la rafia chiusa, stringerla accuratamente con un filo di ferro sottile e poi tagliare a metà le punte ad una delle due parti del cuore.
