2 Attachment 1 DECREE OF THE RECTOR no. 466 of 30/07/2015 Competition for awarding 2 research grants at the University of Udine Art. 1 A competition is hereby announced, based on qualifications and interview where necessary, for awarding 2 research grants at the University of Udine, as identified in Attachment A which constitutes an integral part of the present announcement. The grant may be renewed in compliance with the provisions of art. 22 of Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010, of Law n. 11 of 27 February 2015 and the Regulations of the University of Udine for awarding research grants, enacted by the decree of the Rector n. 263 of 2 July The research grant does not entail any right regarding access to tenured positions at the University. Art. 2 In order to participate in the selection for the research grants hereby announced are required the qualifications as identified in Attachment A, the lack of which entails automatic exclusion: A PhD or equivalent degree obtained abroad or, for the sectors involved, a Medical specialization accompanied by an adequate scientific production or equivalent title obtained abroad, constitute a preferential qualification for access to the selections as above. Candidates with a qualification obtained abroad which has not been declared equivalent pursuant to current legislation will have to present their qualifications translated and legalized by the competent Italian representatives in their Countries of birth or residence, or by an official translator. The adjudicating commission (see art. 6) shall evaluate the equivalence of the qualification obtained abroad solely for the purposes of admission to the competition, except for the evaluation of a medical specialization to which art. 38 of the Legislative Decree 165/2001 and subsequent modifications and additions, and EU regulations on the matter, shall apply. Art. 3 The research grants pursuant to the present competition cannot be awarded to: a) employees of Universities and persons pursuant to art. 22 clause 1 of Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010; b) those who have already been awarded research grants pursuant to Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010 for a total of six years, even if not continuously, except for the period in which the grant was awarded at the same time as a PhD Grant, within the maximum limit of the legal duration of the relative course; c) those who have already been awarded research grants and fixed-term contracts as researchers pursuant respectively to articles 22 and 24 of Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010 for a total of twelve years, even if not continuously, d) those who are related, up to and including the fourth degree, to: - the Rector, the Administrative Director or a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Udine; - the scientific director or a professor/researcher belonging to the Department or structure where the relative research activity will be carried out. The research grants pursuant to this competition cannot be combined with: a) scholarships of any type awarded, except those given by Italian or foreign institutions in order to integrate, with periods abroad, the training or research of the scholar awarded the scholarship; b) other research grants; c) any work contracts as an employee, even part-time, except for the provisions established for the employees of public administrations. Research grants pursuant to the present competition are also incompatible with simultaneous attendance at University degree courses, either Bachelors, specialistic or Masters, research Doctorates with scholarships and medical specializations, in Italy and abroad. Art. 4 Applications to participate in the selection, filled in on ordinary paper as set out in the form attached to this

3 competition (Attachment B) and accompanied by the necessary documentation, must be addressed to the Rector of the University of Udine Servizi Affari Istituzionali e Legali Ufficio Protocollo Via Palladio Udine, and must arrive by and no later than 11:30 am on 18/08/2015 (inclusive). Late applications will not be accepted. The application must be made as follows: 1. handed in personally at the Servizi Affari Istituzionali e Legali - Ufficio Protocollo of the University, Via Palladio 8, Udine, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 11:30am. 2. sent by registered delivery with notification of receipt; 3. sent by Certified Mail (PEC) to the address amce@postacert.uniud.it within the same period. The candidate who forwards the application through PEC does not have to provide the paper application. The application and attachments must be formatted to ensure the non-alterability of the document during the access and storage (PDF / Adobe and Adobe PDF). The maximum allowed is 20 MB. Application submitted by a non-certified address or not in accordance to the provisions by this paragraph will not be considered valid. The university administration does not assume any responsibility in case the files transmitted by PEC are not legible. Applications sent by post will only be accepted if they arrive before the deadline indicated above; therefore, the date of posting or post mark will not be taken into consideration. The name, surname and address of the candidate, and the competition the applicant is applying for, must be written on the outside of the envelope. In the application, pursuant to the Presidential Decree 445/2000 "Unified Text of legislative and regulamentory dispositions concerning administrative documentation", the candidate must specify, clearly and accurately and under his/her own responsibility: 1. his/her particulars, date and place of birth, nationality, residence and address chosen for the purposes of the competition (including the post code and, if possible, telephone number and address); 2. the research grant for which he/she is competing; 3. that he/she meets all the requirements pursuant to art. 2 of this announcement; 4. that he/she is aware of all the restrictions and that his/her application is not incompatible pursuant to art. 3 of this announcement; 5. that he/she undertakes to communicate promptly any change of residence or address indicated in the application. With the application the candidate must also attach, with reference to the research grant for which he/she intends to compete: a) scientific and professional CV, dated and signed, showing the candidate's suitability to follow and achieve the research program (Attachments A and following); b) any publications, certificates and any other diplomas deemed useful to prove the candidate's qualification with regard to the research program as above. Academic and professional qualifications may be self-certified in substitution of the normal certifications (Attachment C). Other qualifications, including publications, may be presented as originals or reproduced as photocopies with a declaration pursuant to Presidential Decree 445/2000 of 28 December 2000 Attachment D); c) list, on a separate sheet of paper, of the publications and qualifications presented with the application (attachment D), dated and signed; d) documentation certifying any research carried out at public and/or private bodies, duly indicating the start and duration thereof; e) copy of any academic qualification obtained abroad, accompanied by the certificate of examinations taken with the mark obtained, translated and legalized by the competent Italian diplomatic representatives abroad, or by an official translator, if an assessment of equivalence is required; f) photocopy of identification card or other identity document. Pursuant to art. 15 of Law No 12 November on "Measures for the formation of the annual budget and multi-state" Public Administrations can not accept or request certificates. In relations with the organs of Public Administration and Managers of public services, the certificates are entirely replaced by the declarations pursuant to Presidential Decree 445/2000 of 28 December The administration reserves the right to carry out sample checks on the truthfulness of the substitute declarations. If in the course of such checks it were to emerge that the content of the declaration is false,

4 the applicant shall forfeit any benefits deriving from the false declaration, and shall also be subject to the penal consequences of his/her action of making false declarations. Any application that does not contain the declarations indicated above, and that does not have the prescribed documentation attached, will not be taken into consideration. Reference may not be made to documents and publications already presented in other competitions. The administration takes no responsibility for the loss of any communications resulting from an inaccurate indication of the residence and address of the applicant, nor from non-communication or tardy communication of any change thereto, nor from any possible misdelivery or postal error not due to any fault of the Administration. Art. 5 The selection tests will ascertain the candidates' preparation, experience and aptitude for research. They will consist in: - evaluation of the professional and scientific CV, publications and qualifications presented; - interview, if necessary, with a more detailed discussion of the topics of scientific importance for the relative research grant. The interview will take place according to the calendar indicated in Attachment A of the present announcement, of which it is an integral part. There will not be any direct communication to the candidates. Candidates will be informed, at the address indicated on the application, if they have been excluded because they lack the requirements for admissibility or due to non-observance of the deadlines. Candidates must come to the interview, if required, with a valid identity document. Art. 6 The adjudicating Commissions for the competition are identified in Attachment A of the present announcement, of which it is an integral part. In the first sitting, the Commission shall appoint a Chair and secretary, and shall establish the criteria and methods for evaluating the qualifications and interview, where required. The results of the evaluation of the qualifications shall be made known to the candidates in the course of the interview, where required. The Commission shall have a total of 100 points that can be attributed to qualifications and to the interview, where required. At the end of the Commission's work, the Commission shall draw up a general list of merit based on the points awarded to each candidate, and shall write the minutes of the operations of the whole competition. The grants shall be awarded, in observance of the above list, to the candidates who have obtained the minimum overall mark (based on qualifications or qualifications and interview) of 70/100 (seventy out of one hundred). The Commission s final judgement is non-appealable. The lists shall be made public solely through publication on the site: No communications will be sent to the candidate's domicile. Any candidates who do not declare that they accept the research grant, and do not present themselves at the research center within the deadlines communicated, even informally, shall forfeit the right to the grant. Extensions to the deadline shall be granted solely due to cases of force majeure, duly documented. Art. 7 The research activity shall not be begun before the successful candidate has signed the contract defining the type of collaboration. The research activity for which the grant is awarded must have the following characteristics: a) it must take place within the field of the research program for which the grant is awarded, and not be a merely technical support thereof; b) it must have a close connection with the research program for which the winner of the grant has been awarded the contract; c) it must be continuous in nature and temporally defined, not merely occasional, and must be coordinated with the overall activity of the University; d) it must be carried out autonomously, within the sole limits of the program set out by the Director of the program, without a predetermined work schedule.

5 The researcher is obliged to present, according to the deadlines laid down by the contract, to the Department or the research structure where he/she is working, a detailed written report of the activity carried out, accompanied by the relative opinion of the scientific Director. Art. 8 The following legal dispositions apply to the grants awarded in the present competition: - with regard to fiscal matters, the dispositions pursuant to art. 4 of Law n. 476 of 13 August 1984 and subsequent modifications and additions; - with regard to social security matters, the dispositions pursuant to art. 2 clauses 26 et seq. of Law n. 335 of 8 August 1995 and subsequent modifications and additions; - with regard to maternity leave, the dispositions pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 12 July 2007; - with regard to sick leave, the dispositions pursuant to art. 1 clause 788 of Law n. 296 of 27 December 2006 and subsequent modifications. During the period of obligatory maternity leave, the indemnity paid by the Italian Social Security Institute (INPS) pursuant to art. 5 of Ministerial Decree of 12 July 2007 shall be integrated by the University so that the whole amount of the research grant shall be paid. The grant shall be paid in monthly instalments. Art. 9 The documents and publications presented by the candidates for the purposes of the competition shall be returned by hand to the candidate him/herself, or to a person delegated for the purpose by the candidate, 180 days after the publication of the Decree of the Rector approving the documents, and within the following 30 days of said publication. Publications presented in the original and not collected shall be kept at the Interdepartmental Libraries in order to increase the store of books held by the University. All other documentation shall be eliminated according to the dispositions of the law. Art. 10 Pursuant to art. 13 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 "Personal data protection Code", the information sheet concerning the processing of personal data is attached to the present announcement (Attachment E). La rete è una tecnologia chiave per questo aspetto, e il concetto di Internet delle cose (Internet-of-Things - IOT) ha rapidamente attirato l'interesse dei ricercatori, industrie e governi in tutto il mondo. Nonostante questo ampio interesse, incorporare intelligenza in oggetti è ancora un problema irrisolto, e rischia di rimanere il fattore di ostacolo per lo sviluppo di questa tecnologia attraente. Si stima che ogni persona, nella sua attività quotidiana, sia circondata da diverse migliaia di "cose", ognuna delle quali richiede un certo grado di intelligenza, dalla semplice identificazione a funzioni più sofisticate. L assegno proposto mira a fornire una panoramica degli standard presenti nella Internet of Things ed a proporre ed implementare la soluzione che si configura come la migliore scelta. La fase di analisi si basa su diversi criteri qualitativi come ad es. la maturità raggiunta dallo standard, la completezza delle specifiche, la penetrazione nel mercato (quanti competitor annunciano la disponibilità dell implementazione sulle loro piattaforme) e la credibilità del consorzio che lo propone (qualità dei partners, partecipazione alla definizione delle specifiche etc.) per portare ad una valutazione oggettiva che evidenzi la scelta di uno standard. Nella fase implementativa, la piattaforma di riferimento tecnologica sarà la famiglia STM32 di STMicroelectronics, sulla quale verrà utilizzato il software di riferimento STM32 Cube. OBIETTIVI: TASK 1 Analisi degli standard emergenti nella Internet of Things per MCU. L analisi ha l obbiettivo di individuare quali standard stanno emergendo con una analisi che comprenda diversi criteri di valutazione. Una prima linea guida sarà la compatibilità delle specifiche con dispositivi a Microcontrollore (MCU). Una seconda direttiva riguarda la maturità delle specifiche tecniche (studio dei documenti prodotti e della loro completezza). Una terza direttiva riguarda la qualità dei partecipanti al comitato di standardizzazione (preferenza per grandi aziende riconosciute per la qualità della ricerca). Una quarta linea guida riguarda la presenza di competitors che stanno lavorando o hanno già annunciato un rilascio delle tecnologia sulle loro piattaforme. Una quinta linea guida riguarda la penetrazione dello standard sul mercato (ad esempio se si sta affermando come standard de-facto). TASK 2 Studio ed implementazione preliminare delle specifiche tecniche dello standard. L implementazione verrà effettuata su una delle MCU dell offerta STMicroelectronics. La prima fase di sviluppo, oggetto del TASK2, prevede l implementazione di funzionalità base delle specifiche. L obbiettivo è di produrre un codice che sia funzionale a dimostrare l utilizzo delle tecnologia in un ambito limitato con piccole applicazioni di test. TASK 3 Completamento dello sviluppo delle specifiche e realizzazione di un software dimostrativo. L obbiettivo del TASK 3 mira a completare il lavoro di implementazione delle specifiche tecniche ed alla dimostrazione della funzionalità delle stesse mediante un software dimostrativo che realizzi un esempio di utilizzo delle tecnologia che possa essere presentato anche ad eventi pubblici.

9 3.2 Text in English (min 3000 caratteri / characters): Giving intelligence to the environment is a fundamental issue in a number of applications, from assisted living, to industrial and home robotics, to tele-presence and remote control, and more in general in every application involving the interaction among human beings and the surrounding environment. Networking is a key enabling technology in this respect, and the concept of Internet-of-things (IOT) has rapidly attracted the interest of researchers, industries and governments worldwide1. Despite this wide interest, embedding intelligence into objects is still an unsolved problem, and it risks to remain the hindering factor for the development of this attractive technology. It is estimated that each person, in her daily activity, is surrounded by several thousand of things, each one requiring some degree of intelligence, from simple identification to more sophisticated functions. The grant is proposed to provide an overview of the standards in the Internet of Things and to propose and implement the solution that appears to be the best choice. The analysis phase is based on several qualitative criteria such as, e.g., the maturity of the standard proposal, the completeness of specifications, market penetration (many competitors announce the availability of the implementation on their platforms) and credibility of the consortium that proposes it (quality of partners, participation in the specification etc.) to bring to an objective assessment that highlights the choice of a standard. In the implementation phase, the reference platform technology will be the STM32 family to which it will use the software reference STM32 Cube. GOALS: TASK 1 - Analysis of emerging standards in the Internet of Things. The analysis has the aim to identify what standards are emerging with an analysis that includes several evaluation criteria. The first guideline is the compatibility of specific solutions with Microcontroller Units (MCU) products. A second objective concerns the maturity of the technical specifications (the study of the documents and their completeness). A third objective concerns the quality of the participants in the standards committee (preference for large companies recognized for the quality of research). A fourth guideline concerns the presence of competitors who are working or have already announced a release of the technology on their platforms. A fifth guideline concerns penetration of the standard on the market (for example, is emerging as a de-facto standard). TASK 2 - Study and preliminary implementation of the technical specifications of the standard. The implementation will be done on one of the MCU supplied by STMicroelectronics. The first stage of development, the subject of TASK2, involves the implementation of the key features of the specifications. The goal is to produce a code that is functional to demonstrate the use of technology in a limited area with small test applications TASK 3 - Completion of the development of the specification and implementation of a software demonstrator. The goal of the TASK 3 aims to complete the work related to the implementation of the technical specifications and to demonstrate the functionality of the software by means of a demonstrator which realizes an example of the use of technology that can be presented at public events. 4. Obiettivi previsti e risultati attesi del programma di ricerca in cui si colloca l attività dell assegnista di ricerca / Foreseen objectives and results of the research programme performed by the research fellow assegnista di ricerca : 3.1 Testo in italiano: L assegno di Ricerca si inserisce nel quadro delle attività della Banca del Germoplasma Autoctono Vegetale (BaGAV) Istituita con L.R. 11/2002 (Tutela delle risorse genetiche autoctone di interesse agrario e forestale) del Friuli Venezia Giulia, presso l Università di Udine, con sede operativa presso l Azienda agraria Servadei. Nel periodo trascorso dalla sua Istituzione, la BaGAV si è principalmente occupata di reperire sul territorio regionale accessioni autoctone di specie coltivate, di caratterizzarle fenotipicamente e di conservarle in idonee strutture a temperatura controllata, garantendone il periodico ringiovanimento, mediante riproduzione in purezza. Per alcune specie arboree, oltre al reperimento ed alla caratterizzazione fenotipica di accessioni di interesse, sono stati istituiti campi catalogo, sempre con finalità di conservazione e caratterizzazione oltre che come supporto ad attività divulgative. La BaGAV si è anche occupata di caratterizzazione fine di accessioni di alcune delle specie ritenute di maggior interesse, attraverso strumenti di biologia molecolare. Il gruppo di lavoro BaGAV è un gruppo aperto cui oltre a due unità di personale tecnico afferiscono diversi ricercatori di vari settori disciplinari, per un apporto di competenze che vanno dalle coltivazioni erbacee ed arboree all orticoltura, alle discipline della difesa da insetti e patogeni, fino agli aspetti legati alla genetica e al miglioramento genetico. Le attività previste nel presente assegno di ricerca sono state e saranno concordate durante tutto lo svolgimento, nell ambito del gruppo di lavoro BaGAV anche allacciandosi alla collaborazione in atto con l Orto Botanico Friulano che sta svolgendo attività didattico-divulgative e di conservazione-moltiplicazione di specie friulane di interesse naturalistico ed agricolo. Con le attività previste si conta di implementare le attività della BaGAV attraverso la raccolta, lo studio delle modalità di conservazione ottimali e la caratterizzazione sia fenotipica che genetica di alcune accessioni di piante di interesse agrario e naturalistico. L attività si propone quindi, per alcune accessioni prese a modello, di andare oltre la seppur fondamentale opera di conservazione del materiale vegetale, percorrendo la strada dello studio delle performance di conservabilità e della caratterizzazione fine, sia dal punto di vista che attraverso le moderne tecniche di biologia molecolare (Fingerprintig, Barcoding), per arrivare ad una descrizione completa delle accessioni considerate, eventualmente utile ad avviare le procedure tecniche per l iscrizione al Registro Nazionale delle Varietà coltivate. Quest ultimo passaggio rappresenta un passo importante per processi di diffusione e commercializzazione del materiale di propagazione autoctono, riducendo i rischi legati alla sua scomparsa e mettendo al contrario a disposizione della Comunità materiali genetici di pregio, con garanzie di rispondenza varietale e sanità, altrimenti difficilmente reperibili. Per quanto riguarda le tecniche di conservazione del germoplasma si intende indirizzare il lavoro verso un protocollo standardizzato che possa essere poi seguito da tutte le strutture che si occupano di conservazione, oltre alla predisposizione di un unico database accessibile ed implementabile a livello Regionale. Dalle attività previste nell ambito del presente assegno di ricerca ci si attendono risultati per quanto riguarda la caratterizzazione di accessioni di alcune specie di interesse sia agrario che naturalistico; oltre al loro reperimento sul territorio, la loro riproduzione in purezza e la loro conservazione in idonee condizioni presso

11 le strutture BaGAV e altre strutture che collaborano (come ad es. l Orto Botanico Friulano), la descrizione fenotipica e la caratterizzazione genetica contribuiranno a fornire elementi utili ad una completa descrizione del materiale. Il lavoro svolto si configurerà di conseguenza anche come un insieme di azioni volte a predisporre per alcune accessioni l iscrizione al registro delle Varietà coltivate, mettendo a punto quindi una procedura-modello applicabile poi anche ad altre varietà. 3.2 Text in English: The Research is part of the Plant gene Bank for autochthonous plant material in Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (BaGAV). Established with LR 11/2002 (Protection of autochthonous genetic resources of agricultural and forest interest), at the University of Udine, with headquarters at The Farm Antonio Servadei. In the period elapsed since its institution, the BaGAV dealt mainly to raise the Friuli Venezia Giulia autochthonous species cultivated, to characterize phenotypically and keep them in appropriate facilities with controlled temperature, ensuring the periodic rejuvenation, through reproduction in controlled conditions. For some cultivated tree species, in addition to the retrieval and the phenotypic characterization of accessions of interest, they have been set up conservation fields, with the purpose of conservation and characterization as well as support for dissemination activities. The BaGAV was also involved in fine characterization of accessions of some of the species of greatest interest, by means of molecular biology techniques. The working team is an open group with two units of technical staff and several researchers with different scientific expertises, ranging from horticulture crops and trees, protection against insects and pathogens, and plant breeding. The planned activities in this research grant result as join activity between BaGAV, and Udine Botanical Garden. The planned actions aimed to implement BaGAV activities by collecting, studying the optimal storage conditions and genetic and phenotypic characterization for some accessions of crop and wild plants. The activity is therefore proposed, for some accessions taken as a model, although to go beyond the fundamental work of preservation of the plant material, along the way of the study of the performance and preservability of the fine characterization, both from the point of view that through modern molecular biology techniques (Fingerprintig, Barcoding), to arrive at a complete description of the accessions considered possibly useful to initiate the technical procedures for registration in the National Register of Varieties. This last step is an important step for the diffusion and commercialization of autochthonous propagation material, reducing the risks associated with his disappearance and putting in contrast to the disposal of the genetic materials and fittings, with guarantees of compliance varietal and health, otherwise difficult available. Concerning the techniques of conservation of germplasm the work is lead to a standardized protocol that can then be followed by all structures that deal with conservation, as well as installing a single database accessible and implemented at Regional level. The activities planned under this research grant are expected results in the characterization of accessions of species of interest to both agricultural and natural features; in addition to raising their territory, their reproduction in purity and storage in suitable conditions at the facilities BaGAV and other structures that work (eg. the Udine Botanical Garden), the phenotypic description and genetic characterization will help provide useful elements to a complete description of the material. The work will be shaped accordingly as a set of actions to prepare for some accessions commercial registration of the varieties grown, developing a procedure-model also applicable to other varieties. 4.
