Th PLIDA program aims at crating a modrn cours of study in Italian that will b mor dynamic, ngaging and proficincy-orintd than in th past. In this important procss and in ordr to nsur our studnts th bst of this program, th Cambridg Dant is working in clos coopration with th Cntral Hadquartrs of th Dant Alighiri Socity* in Rom, its languag committ, and th Scholastic Offic of th Boston Consulat Gnral. Th PLIDA program follows th guidlins of th Europan Committ for th Taching of Forign Languags. Hnc, th program aims to implmnt th procdurs for languag larning concrning th four basic linguistic comptncis (listning, spaking, rading, and writing) with a particular focus on cultural mattrs, as suggstd by this Committ. Studnts will larn to hon thir languag skills and to dvlop stratgis that thy can mploy progrssivly to improv thir xprtis in ach of th abov comptncis. Our approach As PLIDA instructors, our most important objctiv is to nabl our studnts to communicat in Italian (i.. to b abl to transmit information back and forth in a givn contxt), rathr than just spak it with rigid, mmorizd phrass. Our approach is communicativ, maning that studnts will solly b addrssd in Italian from day on and that functions, vocabulary, and grammar will b introducd in a convrsational and contxtualizd atmosphr. Practic in th targt languag and intraction with both th instructor and with prs will b critical, as wll as studnts activ participation in discovring grammar ruls with hlp from th instructor.
