1 FONTANA DELLA VITA Che cos è il Centro mondiale di comunicazione? Hendrik Christian Andersen aveva immaginato il Centro mondiale di comunicazione come un luogo in cui raccogliere i più alti prodotti scientifici e artistici dell'umanità Dov è il Centro mondiale di comunicazione? Il Centro mondiale di comunicazione è un progetto che non è mai stato realizzato. La descrizione del progetto è contenuta nel volume Creation of a World Center of Communication, pubblicato da Andersen nel Il libro raccoglie tutte le idee sul Centro mondiale pensate dall artista (e da E. Hébrard, un architetto che collaborò con lui) tra il 1901 e il Che cos è la Fontana della vita? Un opera molto importante all interno del progetto. Andersen aveva pensato di posizionarla al centro della

2 città. La Fontana della vita doveva chiarire il significato del Centro mondiale di comunicazione: lo scorrere delle acque indicava, infatti, il continuo scorrere della vita. Come è fatta la Fontana della vita che Andersen voleva realizzare? La Fontana della vita, che è l unica delle idee dell intero Centro mondiale di comunicazione ad essere stata realizzata (almeno in alcune delle sue parti), nel progetto di Andersen, ha una pianta che ricorda la forma di una croce ed è costituita da una vasca centrale, in alto, che forma una cascata: l acqua va a finire su tre terrazze poste una sotto l altra. Quali sono gli elementi più importanti della Fontana della vita pensata da Andersen? Nel Museo sono custodite le statue e i gessi realizzati dall artista, ma gli elementi più importanti

3 della Fontana della vita, come era stata pensata da Andersen, sono i seguenti: la vasca è decorata con un mosaico che raffigura le stagioni la prima terrazza è rotonda ed ospita quattro gruppi di sculture in bronzo. Ogni gruppo è formato da un uomo e una donna che camminano e si sostengono l uno con l altra (Amore o Il Bacio, nn. 4,11, La gioia di vivere o La Famiglia, nn. 5,6,7, Fratellanza o il Passo, n.8, Progresso dell Umanità, n.1) la seconda terrazza è rotonda come la prima ed è decorata con piccole fontane poste sul bordo. Ha inoltre quattro scalinate simmetriche che conducono alla terza terrazza la terza terrazza ha l aspetto di una piazza ed è formata da sei semicerchi; in ogni semicerchio l artista ha immaginato di mettere una scultura. Quattro sculture rappresentano i momenti della giornata, ma anche le fasi della vita (Mattino, A,

4 Sera, B, Giorno, C, Notte, D). Altre due sculture (Nudi femminile e maschile su cavalli al passo e recanti sulle spalle due bambini, nn. 2,3) dovevano essere posizionate nei semicerchi più grandi. Alla base di ognuna delle statue con i cavalli, si trovano due statue di donne (La Preghiera, nn. 9,10), che raffigurano l invocazione a Dio. The project description is contained in Volume Creation of a World Center of Communication, published by Andersen in The book collects all the ideas on the World Center designed by the artist ( and by E. Hebrard, an architect who worked with him) between 1901 and That cos ' is the fountain of life? Very important work within the project. Andersen had thought to place it at the center of the city. Each group is made up of a man and a woman walking and argue with each other (

It also includes four symmetrical staircases leading to the third terrace the third terrace has the appearance of a square and is made up of six semicircles, but in any semicircle, the artist has imagined a sculpture. Four sculptures represent the moments of the day, but also the stages of life ( Morning, A, Evening, B, Day, C, Night, D). Two other sculptures ( female and male nudes on horses to step on the shoulders and bearing two children, nn. 2.3 ) were to be placed in semicircles larger. At the base of each of the statues with horses, there are two statues of women ( The Prayer, nos ), which depict the invocation to God
