1 IL TEMPO E LE STAGIONI OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to talk about the weather and the seasons organizing a trip. LEVEL: Beginner language learner Italian 111 TIME: 50 min MATERIALS: 1. Power Point presentation with instructions materials for the information gap activity 2. Computer with projector 3. Worksheet 4. Worksheet with a map of Toscana (Italian region) DESCRIPTION: This lesson provides different input and output activities. The teacher will present through pictures the vocabulary and will ask the students their opinion about the weather. After this interactive presentation, students will practice the vocabulary through input and output activities in the attached worksheet.

2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TEACHER I. Start with the Power Point (PPT). Passo 1 (5 min): Review the season and the month word (slide 3-6). Students repeat after teacher. The teacher asks follow-up questions. See examples: a) In inverno nevica. Ti piace la neve? Ti piace il freddo? b) Quando nevica che cosa ti piace fare? Preferisci stare a casa o uscire? c) Quando nevica che sport ti piace fare? d) Vai in vacanza in inverno? In che mese? Dove? Passo 2 (15 min): Introduce the new vocabulary of the weather to the students (slides 7-11). Students repeat after teacher. The teacher asks follow-up questions. See examples: a) Preferisci quando c è freddo o quando c è caldo? b) A Chicago c è molto vento vero? E a Normal? c) A Normal fa freddo o caldo in estate? a) Quando c è nuvoloso cosa fai? b) In estate preferisci il tempo bello o nuvoloso? Perché? c) Cosa ti piace fare quando fa bel tempo? a) Che tempo fa oggi? Sta piovendo o c è il sole? b) Nevica spesso a Normal? E a Miami? c) Piove molto in primavera? a) Com è il tempo in primavera e in autunno? É caldo o fresco? b) Preferisci il caldo o il freddo? c) Preferisci il fresco o il caldo? II. ACTIVITIES: Power Point. Passo 1 (5 min): (slide 12) In pairs decide if these sentences are logical or illogical. Then the teacher asks some follow-up question, in order to understand why some sentences are illogical to find out the logical one. Passo 2 (5 min): (slide 13) In pairs, associate these sentences with the words in the list. The teacher provides feedback and do some follow-up questions. Passo 3 (5 min): (slide 14) In pairs student match the right word with the weather s icon. They have to choose from a list of words the correct one. Then the teacher checks the exercise with all the class. Passo 4 (5 min): listening and comprehension activity (slide 15) Now students listen to the weatherman and complete the map (students have the map in the worksheet) by drawing the correct weather icon that corresponds with the weather of each Toscana s city. (The weatherman is the teacher. He/she will read the following statements)

A Siena c è un forte vento e sole. A Grosseto il cielo è nuvoloso. Passo 5 (5 min): (slide 16) Now in pairs students discuss what they like or dislike. Students have to provide different arguments in their discussion. Modello: -Ti piace quando c è il sole in estate? -No non mi piace perchè c è molto caldo. E a te? - Si mi piace quando fa caldo, perché mi piace andare in spiaggia. In pairs, students have to look at this list of cities and the months in which they can travel to them. Then, think about how the weather on those months is and which activities they could do.
