18 CAS REGISTRY NUMBER It s a unique numeric identifier that designates only one substance it contains up to 10 digits, divided by hyphens into three parts e.g it is assigned to a substance when it enters the CAS Registry Database (chemical name, common name, trade name, CASRN) it has become a world standard (you can find CAS registry Numbers in Scifinder, other databases, handbooks, guides, chemical catalogs etc.)
