3 Storia, tradizione, ricerca, design e tecniche sofisticate. Era il 1949 ed anziché rivolgersi al mercato crescente che ruotava attorno alla ricostruzione del Paese occupandosi di edilizia, macchinari e mobili, tipici settori in espansione del dopoguerra ed in special modo nella Val d Elsa, Egizia inizia a scrivere una pagina importante nella storia dell estetica decorativa. Giovani diplomati di scuole d arte, operai specializzati e impiegati accomunati da una passione e da una tecnica esperta, portano l azienda ad ottimi livelli di qualità, a risultati importanti, ad un riconoscimento crescente sul mercato. L evoluzione più recente del suo management, gli investimenti sul nuovo stabilimento, su una tecnologia sempre più raffinata, oltre alla ricerca di un design riconoscibile e funzionale, hanno saputo legarsi con l estro artistico e l abilità artigianale delle risorse create ed in forza all azienda. Egizia, quindi, è cresciuta, si è dotata di impianti produttivi all avanguardia, si è imposta sempre più all attenzione del mercato nazionale ed estero. Ma ha conservato integro il suo legame con la sua storia e la tradizione: storia e tradizione di un lavoro che è la somma di estro artistico e abilità artigianali senza quindi penalizzare gli aspetti estetici e manuali della lavorazione che le hanno permesso avere una forte identità.. ciò di cui andiamo più fieri! I risultati di questo percorso non sono tardati ad arrivare, in termini di numeri, di immagine e di notorietà. Le linee contemporanee di Egizia, quelle classiche e quelle create in esclusiva per prestigiosi marchi e griffes nazionali ed esteri, sono conosciute ed apprezzate in tutto il mondo, ed è questa la migliore conferma dell importanza di mezzo secolo della nostra attività. History, tradition, research, design and sophisticated technique It was 1949, and instead of approaching the increasing market that revolved around reconstruction of the country through buildings, machinery and furniture typical postwar growth sectors, especially in the Val d Elsa Egizia began writing an important page in the history of decorative aesthetics. Young art school graduates, specialised workers and office staff, all with a shared passion and technical expertise, took the company to top quality levels, notable results and growing recognition on the market. The most recent management evolution, investments in new premises and increasingly refined technology over and above the search for recognisable and functional design have been linked with the artistic talent and crafts ability of the resources created and in force within the company. So Egizia has grown, has acquired avant-garde production plants and has increasingly attracted the attention of national and foreign markets. But it has maintained its bonds with tradition and history intact: the history and tradition of work, which is the sum total of artistic talent and craftsmanship, without penalising the aesthetic and manual aspects of the work process but creating a powerful identity.. of which we are proudest! The results of this choice of direction were not long in coming in terms of figures, image and fame. 2 3

4 La tecnica. La cura artigianale, la raffinatezza dei decori, la qualità e l assoluta indelebilità degli stessi, è garantita da un procedimento che vede l applicazione (a livelli estremamente sofisticati) della serigrafia manuale. In pratica si tratta di stampare (attraverso un telaio in seta sul quale è incisa una parte del decoro) direttamente sulla forma di vetro o di cristallo uno o più colori oppure colori e oro o platino o argento, o sabbie di cristallo trasparenti o opaline, bianche o colorate. I colori possono essere stesi o a spessore. Con il mix delle innumerevoli tecniche si ottiene la possibilità di creare moltissime estetiche che riescono ad appagare oltre che gli occhi anche il tatto ed i sentimenti. Durante o a fine decorazione i colori, i metalli preziosi e le sabbie vengono vetrificate in forno con una o più cotture che possono variare da 450 fino a circa 600. Dopo la cottura, in un impianto estremamente all avanguardia e totalmente automatizzato, tutti gli oggetti sono sottoposti ad un attenta fase di confezionamento secondo le esigenze delle varie collezioni o dei diversi destinatari finali. Technique. Craftsmanship, decorative refinement, quality and the absolute indelibility of all three are guaranteed by a procedure involving manual silk-screening (at extremely sophisticated levels). In practice, it is a question of direct printing on the glass or crystal form (by means of a silk-screen on which part of the decoration is impressed) of one or more colours, or colours with gold, platinum or silver, or transparent or opaline crystal sands, white or coloured. The colours can be thinly spread or thick. With blending of innumerable techniques a great number of aesthetic results can be achieved, satisfying not only the eye but also touch and feelings. During or after decoration, the colours, precious metals and sands are vitrified in the kiln with one or more firings between 450 C and around 600 C. After firing by fully automatic avant-garde plant all items undergo careful packaging in accordance with the needs of the various collections or end users. EGIZIA: l oggetto e la sua storia Ogni articolo di Egizia ha una sua storia. E stato prima pensato e progettato, poi decorato e seguito con cura in ogni fase della lavorazione. Si inizia con la scelta e la progettazione della forma dell oggetto e con la creazione del decoro salvaguardando un rigoroso percorso artistico, iconografico e culturale il quale, insieme alla tecnica, deve tenere sempre alte le nostre barriere all imitazione. Si potrebbe raccontare ancora molto sulla complessità delle lavorazioni, sul numero dei passaggi di stampa serigrafica richiesti dai decori più sofisticati, sulle difficoltà di alcuni effetti, sugli ostacoli da superare nella realizzazione di colori speciali che devono resistere alla temperatura del forno in cui il colore fonde in modo indelebile nel vetro: ma tutto ciò interessa poco il consumatore finale. Questo è il patrimonio di conoscenze e di esperienze che l azienda ha saputo accumulare ed amministrare. Ciò che interessa sono gli oggetti, che pur nella loro semplicità di forma ed uso, portano nella casa una carica di qualità, eleganza e preziosità che rivela la passione di chi li ha realizzati e l entusiasmo di chi li ha disegnati. EGIZIA: the object and its history Paolo Smorti Amministratore Delegato Every Egizia article has a history. First it was devised and designed, then decorated and carefully supervised through each phase of the work process. We begin by selecting and designing the form of the object and creating the decoration, safeguarding a rigorous artistic, iconographic and cultural process which, together with technique, has to keep up high barriers against imitation. We could still say much about the complexity of the work processes, the number of silkscreen printings required for the most sophisticated decorations, the difficulty in achieving certain effects, the obstacles to be overcome in creating special colours that have to stand up to a kiln temperature at which the colour indelibly blends into the glass: but all this is of little interest to the end user. It is the heritage of knowledge and experience that the company has accumulated and administered. What interests the end user are the objects which, though simple in form and use, bring into the home a charge of quality, refinement and preciousness and that reveals the passion of the people who created them and the enthusiasm of the people who designed them.
