2 VI European Conference on cured and chronic cancer patients September 23 rd -24 th 2016 Welcome message from the conference chair Dear colleague and friends, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to VI European Conference on Cured and Chronic Cancer Patients, in Siracusa, Italy. The number of people diagnosed with cancer who live longer than 5 years from diagnosis or end of acute treatment, along with the number of patients who live with cancer in a chronic state, is increasing in industrialized countries. Long term cancer patients face increased risk of many health problems, including recurrence of the original cancer, development of a second cancer, long-term adverse treatment events, and psychosocial needs. In addition to the cancer itself, these health risks are caused by treatments as well as inherited, lifestyle, and environmental factors. The aim of this Conference is to bring out the patients needs, to review current and emerging treatment options, side effects management, and to promote the physical and psychosocial rehabilitation. I hope that the conference will satisfy your scientific interest and that you will spend a good time in Siracusa.
