Il quadrante in ottone, con targhetta matricola riportata, è inciso al pantografo meccanico, trattato galvanicamente e riempito manualmente con smalti e pasta luminosa. Prima del montaggio finale ogni orologio viene assemblato senza movimento e quadrante e posto in autoclave ad una pressione di 40 bar per verificarne la presso-resistenza e l ermeticità. La corona di carica dell orologio U-42 è formata da due parti: una solidale con la tige del movimento, l altra con la testa di presa; questa è incernierata alla prima per mezzo di un perno, costituendo un giunto snodato. Questa configurazione permette di avere una corona che sporge notevolmente dal corpo dell orologio, per le operazioni di carica e rimessa, e di averla in posizione protetta, diminuendo l ingombro laterale, quando non è usata.
