PREMESSA Introduction La genesi del progetto AMATI futura è rintracciabile nella volontà di Sonus faber di trasferire il coacervo di esperienze, soluzioni tecnico-brevettuali ed estetico-funzionali sviluppate per il diffusore di riferimento the Sonus faber in un nuovo progetto che è al tempo stesso un richiamo a Andrea Amati, capostipite della celebre famiglia di liutai cremonesi. L obiettivo che si pone questo diffusore, certamente ambizioso, è quello di dare un senso profondo al grande impegno sostenuto, in termini di ricerca e sviluppo, per la realizzazione della nostra flagship rendendolo non un mero esercizio di stile ma un capitale, anche culturale, di conoscenze al servizio della musica ben riprodotta ad ogni livello. AMATI futura rappresenta il primo passo di questo nuovo ed avvincente percorso. Sonus faber s desire to direct their vast range of experience and solutions, both esthetic and technical, led to the creation of AMATI futura, a brand new project and also a reference to Andrea Amati, the founder of the famous school of violin-making in Cremona. The ambitious goal for this project is to give a deep sense to the great R&D effort that has been invested in the Sonus faber, not to be considered as a mere exercise in style but a capital of know-how serving the best possible reproduction of music. AMATI futura is the first step in this exciting direction.

Progetto elettroacustico La nuova creazione presenta importanti novità dal punto di vista strutturale e funzionale, sia per quanto riguarda il cabinet, che per quanto concerne gli aspetti tecnologici, nel segno di una rivoluzione del suono che è già iniziata. Electroacoustic Design The new project shows important features in its structure and functions, both in its cabinet and in its technological aspects. The revolution of sound has just begun. Sistema Diffusore acustico a 3.5 vie da pavimento a forma di liuto, a cavità accordate. Sistema ottimizzato di disaccoppiamento diffusore/ pavimento L.V.T. (Low Vibration Transmission); sistema di conversione cinetico-termica per lo smaltimento delle vibrazioni residue T.M.D. (Tuned Mass Damper); sistema di accordo paraaperiodico Stealth reflex. System 3.5 way Lute shaped floor standing vented speaker system. Highly optimised speaker/ floor decoupling thanks to the use of the L.V.T. (Low Vibration Transmission); a T.M.D. (Tuned Mass Damper) device is used to further damp residual resonances through a thermo-kinetic conversion; the Stealth reflex para-aperiodic solution is used for venting the cabinet. La curvatura progressiva, realizzata in multistrato di okumè a venatura incrociata, viene tecnicamente implementata mediante strati separati e smorzati, facendo così ricorso alla tecnica del constrained layer damping. L ambiente acustico di ogni singolo trasduttore è ottimizzato per essere prossimo alla perfezione teorica. Specifiche strutture di rinforzo sono disposte strategicamente all interno delle singole camere acustiche. Acoustic enclosure The cabinet is the greatest expression of the Lute shape design. The progressive curvature walls, made out of cross-grained okume multilayer plywood, are technically employed in a constrained layer damping fashion. The acoustic ambient of every transducer has been designed to come as near as possible to the theoretical optimum. Specific stiffening ribs are strategically engineered in each acoustic sub-enclosure.

Aspetti innovativi Il sistema Exo-Squeleton comporta due piastre in avional nichelato, lavorate dal pieno e poste agli estremi superiore e inferiore del cabinet. Il loro ruolo è di contenere le vibrazioni residue presenti nelle pareti dell involucro. Le due piastre sono unite tra loro da una doppia ala sempre in avional che svolge il ruolo di interfaccia meccanica ad alta velocità di trasmissione vibrazionale, convogliando le oscillazioni spurie verso il basamento. Un Tuned Mass Damper a frequenze differenziate, un dispositivo adottato nei grattacieli più alti del mondo e sulle monoposto di F1, dissipa oscillando in contro fase le risonanze strutturali, operando dunque una conversione termo-cinetica delle vibrazioni residue. Il diffusore acustico è meccanicamente disaccoppiato dal pavimento tramite il sistema brevettato L.V.T., Low Vibration Transmission. Si tratta di una sospensione specificamente ottimizzata a elastomero, che riduce sostanzialmente la trasmissione di vibrazioni spurie all ambiente d ascolto e inibisce l insorgere di fenomeni nocivi quali l acoustic feedback. Innovative features The Exo-Squeleton clamp is implemented by the 2 CNC machined avionic nickelplated end-covers (on the top and on the bottom of the cabinet). Their role is to control and contain residual resonances of the enclosure walls. The two end-covers are linked by the dual avionic rear wings, functioning as a high speed mechanical interface that conveys spurious vibrations to the base of the cabinet. A Tuned Mass Damper, with multiple tuning frequencies, as seen on the world s tallest skycrapers and F1 cars, converts the residual vibrations into heat (thermo-kinetics) by out-of-phase vibrations. The speaker system is mechanically decoupled from the floor by the patented L.V.T. system (Low Vibration Transmission). This is an elastomer based suspension system aimed at substantially reducing the transmission of spurious vibrations to the listening environment; also acoustic feedback phenomena are inhibited.

Il sistema Stealth Reflex è un innovativa e brevettata interpretazione paraaperiodica del carico accordato. Oltre a fornire importanti vantaggi in termini di riduzione delle dimensioni delle camere acustiche, di maggiore estensione della risposta e di drastico contenimento di ogni forma di distorsione, ha la prerogativa di eliminare i rumori aerodinamici spuri, tipici dei sistemi reflex di tipo tradizionale. Finiture Le finiture della parte lignea di Amati futura derivano direttamente da quelle di the Sonus faber e prevedono, nel solco della miglior tradizione liutaia, l attenta sovrapposizione di sette mani di laccatura e la successiva paziente lucidatura a specchio eseguita a mano da maestri artigiani. I preziosi trattamenti delle parti che compongono il sistema Exo-Squeleton in avional implicano viceversa un avanguardistico ed esclusivo processo di rivestimento in nichel chimico. Si tratta di una finitura dello spessore di ben 30 micron le cui principali caratteristiche sono l uniformità di spessore, l elevata durezza superficiale e la notevole resistenza alla corrosione. La si applica attraverso un processo multifase in cui ad una prima lucidatura a specchio del pezzo grezzo segue una prima applicazione del materiale. Ulteriori due passaggi di lucidatura, intervallati da una seconda applicazione di materiale completano la finitura. The Stealth Reflex is the Sonus faber patented solution to implement a paraaperiodic vented system. Besides allowing for the reduction of the dimensions of the cabinet, better low frequency and drastic reductions in distortions are reached. It also has the advantage of eliminating the port noises typical of classic bass-reflex systems. Finishes The finishes of the wooden parts of the AMATI futura are a direct descendant of those of the Sonus faber and in the best tradition of the violin makers, are made with 7 layers of hand polished lacquer, carefully applied by our craftsmen. The avional metal parts of the Exo- Squeleton, on the other hand, feature hightech, exclusive Nickel coating chemical processes. This surface finish is over 30 micron thick, extremely tough and homogeneous, with remarkable resistance to corrosion. It is made in a multiple phase process, with a first mirror polishing/coating step, followed by two successive ones, each one with different chemical/timing specifications.

Altoparlanti Pur avvalendosi dei più avanzati strumenti tecnologici, in Sonus faber vi è la radicata e inossidabile certezza che l unico vero giudice delle scelte progettuali sia, in ultima istanza, quello stupendo ed impareggiabile strumento che è l orecchio umano. Questo è uno dei principali aspetti che ispira, fin dall inizio di questa attività, la progettazione dei sistemi di altoparlanti Sonus faber. In fase di ricerca ogni componente è analizzato, ed eventualmente scelto, tenendo presente questo criterio di valutazione. Tutti gli altoparlanti utilizzati sono costruiti in esclusiva, su specifiche Sonus faber, dalle più affermate e rinomate aziende scandinave. Ulteriori trattamenti, come avviene nel caso di AMATI futura, completano gli altoparlanti, prima di essere avviati alle linee di assemblaggio. Lo spettro acuto La riproduzione delle alte frequenze è affidata ad un classico tweeter dinamico Ragnar Lian da 29 mm Ultra dynamic linearity disaccoppiato visco-elasticamente dal panello frontale. Drive units In spite of using the most advanced technologies and the means to measure them, in Sonus faber there is the belief that the only real judge of the design choices, at the end of the day, is the human ear, the most fabulous and unparalleled instrument. This is a paramount criteria that has been the key to the design philosophy since the beginning of Sonus faber. In the R&D phase every component is analysed and eventually chosen, according to this principle. All drive units are manufactured on an exclusive basis to Sonus faber specifications by the most famous Scandinavian producers. Further enhancements as for the AMATI futura are applied in the Sonus faber factory before the final assembly. The high frequency spectrum The high frequency spectrum is handled by a classic Ragnar Lian 29 mm Ultra dynamic linearity tweeter, visco-elastically decoupled from the front baffle.

Lo spettro dei medi Il midrange è l elemento chiave tra i trasduttori di AMATI futura. Il cono da 7 è stato scelto in funzione del suono più naturale possibile, creando un amalgama di polpa di cellulosa lentamente asciugata ad aria e non pressata. Il potente sistema magnetico, con una bobina da 1.7 ha una geometria a classica a triplo anello Kellog/Goeller eddy current free. Come il tweeter, il midrange è visco-elasticamente disaccoppiato dal pannello frontale. Lo spettro grave I due woofer da 9 sono stati progettati con lo scopo di esibire una definizione ottimale nella loro banda passante. La soluzione è stata quella di usare per il cono una membrana AlMg con struttura layerdamped smorzata grazie ad un elastomero cellulare ad alta isteresi. Le bobine mobili da 1.5 controlled eddy current, unitamente al potente motore magnetico a corsa lunga, sono garanti di performance eccellenti, sia dal punto di vista dinamico e sia da quello della linearità. The midrange spectrum The midrange is the key element among the transducers of the AMATI futura. The 7 cone has been chosen for its most natural sound. The use of a special air dried, nonpressed paper pulp gives these excellent results. The powerful magnet system, with its 1.7 voice-coil and triple Kellog/Goeller copper rings makes this unit eddy current free. Like the tweeter, the midrange is viscoelastically decoupled from the front baffle. The low frequency spectrum The dual 9 woofers have been designed to get the best possible definition in their passband. The solution has been to use AlMg cones, in a layer-damped structure, by damping the cone resonances with a foamed, closed cell high hysteresis elastomer. The 1.5 controlled eddy current voice-coils, together with the powerful long throw magnet systems provide excellent performance, both in terms of dynamics and linearity.

Il crossover Una cura del tutto particolare è stata posta nella progettazione della rete di crossover, proprio per rispondere a quelli che sono i criteri di musicalità Sonus faber. Le scelte sul tipo di rete e sui componenti, in abbinamento con gli altoparlanti, sono infatti determinanti per la qualità dei diffusori. Il crossover di AMATI futura impiega la nuova architettura progressive slope, tipica delle più recenti realizzazioni Sonus faber come le serie Cremona M e Liuto. Grande attenzione è stata profusa nell accurata gestione della risposta in frequenza sia in termini di ampiezza, sia in termini di fase. Le frequenze di incrocio sono 80/220/3200 Hz. La più alta qualità in relazione alla performance di ascolto è stata il criterio cardine che ha orientato la scelta dei componenti impiegati: condensatori Mundorf Supreme, induttanze Jantzen. The crossover Special attention has been given to the design of the crossover of the AMATI futura, in order to address the musical criteria of Sonus faber. The choices of the transfer functions along with the relative drive units define the quality of the speaker system. The AMATI futura crossover uses the progressive slope architecture, typical of Sonus faber since the Cremona M and Liuto series. Great attention has been given to ensure the best amplitude and phase response. The crossover frequencies are 80/220/3200 Hz. The best possible quality in terms of audio performance has been the key criteria in selecting the components for the crossover: Mundorf Supreme capacitors, Jantzen inductors.

Il collegamento Connections Sul retro di Amati futura sono presenti due coppie di morsetti di connessione, l una per le polarità positive, l altra per quelle negative. Esse accettano collegamenti con forcelle, con cavo sguainato e con connettori a banana. Passando in rassegna le due coppie, dall alto verso il basso, si ha che la prima coppia di connettori positivi e negativi è destinata ad alimentare separatamente gli altoparlanti delle frequenze medio-acute. La seconda coppia è viceversa destinata ad alimentare separatamente gli altoparlanti per le basse frequenze. Non appena rimossa dall imballo Amati futura presenterà le due coppie di connettori collegate da dei ponticelli metallici di collegamento. Il set completo per una coppia di Amati futura consta di quattro ponticelli rossi terminati a banana da ambo i lati. Attraverso l uso alternato di questi ponticelli sarà possibile collegare Amati futura in tutte le configurazioni possibili adattandosi senza problemi di adattamento alla tipologia di terminazione presente sui propri cavi di potenza preferiti. Segue una descrizione del percorso relativo alle varie tipologie di collegamento che determinerà un aumento progressivo della qualità della riproduzione sonora in termini di definizione, controllo e dettaglio. There are two pairs of binding posts on the AMATI futura back panel: one for positive and the other for negative polarities. The connections can be made with bare wires, spade plugs or banana plugs. The top pair of positive and negative connectors are for mid-high frequencies and the bottom pair is for low frequencies. When the AMATI futura is unpacked these binding posts are bridged together by metal connection bridges. The complete set for a pair of AMATI futura is four bridges with spade plugs on each end. The alternative use of these bridges allows you to connect AMATI futura with all possible configurations, adapting itself to suit your preferred speaker wire terminals. The following describes the various connection possibilities, which allow you to increase the audio quality in terms of definition, detail and control.

Collegamento Standard Il collegamento standard si esegue utilizzando un singolo amplificatore stereofonico, oppure una coppia di amplificatori monofonici, unitamente ad un singolo set di cavi di potenza. Si dovrà procedere al collegamento solo dopo aver ponticellato in maniera opportuna i morsetti, come esemplificato dalla figura 1. Bi-wiring Il collegamento in bi-wiring si esegue utilizzando un singolo amplificatore stereofonico, oppure una coppia di amplificatori monofonici, unitamente a due set di cavi di potenza come esemplificato figura 2. Bi-amping Il collegamento in bi-amping si esegue utilizzando una coppia di amplificatori stereofonici, oppure un quartetto di amplificatori monofonici (si consiglia caldamente l utilizzo di amplificatori dello stesso marchio e appartenenti allo stesso specifico modello), unitamente a due set di cavi di potenza. In questo caso si prevede di alimentare con un amplificatore di potenza stereofonico (o con una coppia di monofonici) la sezione medio-acuta e con l altro amplificatore di potenza stereofonico (o con l altra coppia di monofonici) la sezioni grave, come esemplificato dalla figura 3. In generale ed indipendentemente dalla configurazione prescelta l accurato serraggio dei contatti e la verifica periodica degli stessi contribuiranno al miglioramento delle prestazioni. The connection is made only after having bridged the binding posts according to the diagram in figure 1. Bi-wiring The bi-wiring connection is made with one stereo power amplifier or with a pair of mono power amplifiers and with two sets of speaker cables. This connection can only be made after having removed the connection bridges according to the diagram shown in figure 2. Bi-amping The bi-amping connection is made with a pair of stereo power amplifiers or with four mono power amplifiers (we highly recommend using the same brand and model of amplifier for the whole system) and with two sets of speaker cables. Again, this connection can be made only after having removed the bridges as shown in figure 3.
