A note from Fr. Wayne... Last Sunday, we celebrated the outpouring of God s love for each of us in the great celebration of the Lord s Resurrection from the dead. He gave us the gift of eternal life. This Sunday, Divine Mercy Sunday, He gives us the gift of peace. He tells those gathered in the upper room: Peace be with you. These are the same words our Lord desires us to hear and feel today. His peace is the gift that follows the joy of Easter Sunday. Today, live that peace. Let that peace that only Christ can give reign in your hearts. This peace is for our world, our Church, our families, and in our hearts. At last Sunday s blessing to the world, Pope Francis pleaded for peace: From the risen Lord we ask today the grace not to succumb to the pride which fuels violence and war, but to have the humble courage of pardon and peace. We ask Jesus, to lighten the sufferings of our many brothers and sisters who are persecuted for his name, and of all those who suffer injustice as a result of ongoing conflicts and violence. There are so many of them!... We ask for peace and freedom for the many men and women subject to old and new forms of enslavement on the part of criminal individuals and groups. Peace and liberty for the victims of drug dealers, who are often allied with the powers who ought to defend peace and harmony in the human family. And we ask peace for this world subjected to arms dealers, who profit from the blood of men and women. May the marginalized, the imprisoned, the poor and the migrants who are so often rejected, maltreated and discarded, the sick and the suffering, children, especially those who are victims of violence; all who today are in mourning, and all men and women of goodwill, hear the consoling and healing voice of the Lord Jesus: Peace to you! La pietra scartata dai costruttori è divenuta la pietra d angolo. Questo è stato fatto dal Signore: una meraviglia ai nostri occhi. SECONDA LETTURA Dalla prima lettera di san Giovanni apostolo Carissimi, chiunque crede che Gesù è il Cristo, è stato generato da Dio; e chi ama colui che ha generato, ama anche chi da lui è stato generato. In questo conosciamo di amare i figli di Dio: quando amiamo Dio e osserviamo i suoi comandamenti. In questo infatti consiste l amore di Dio, nell osservare i suoi comandamenti; e i suoi comandamenti non sono gravosi. Chiunque è stato generato da Dio vince il mondo; e questa è la vittoria che ha vinto il mondo: la nostra fede. E chi è che vince il mondo se non chi crede che Gesù è il Figlio di Dio? Egli è colui che è venuto con acqua e sangue, Gesù Cristo; non con l acqua soltanto, ma con l acqua e con il sangue. Ed è lo Spirito che dà testimonianza, perché lo Spirito è la verità. Verbum Domini Deo Gratias PRIMA LETTURA Dagli Atti degli Apostoli La moltitudine di coloro che erano diventati credenti aveva un cuore solo e un anima sola e nessuno considerava sua proprietà quello che gli apparteneva, ma fra loro tutto era comune. Con grande forza gli apostoli davano testimonianza della risurrezione del Signore Gesù e tutti godevano di grande favore. Nessuno infatti tra loro era bisognoso, perché quanti possedevano campi o case li vendevano, portavano il ricavato di ciò che era stato venduto, lo deponevano ai piedi degli apostoli; poi veniva distribuito a ciascuno secondo il suo bisogno. Dal vangelo di Giovanni Gloria a Te, O Signore. La sera di quel giorno, il primo della settimana, mentre erano chiuse le porte del luogo dove si trovavano i discepoli per timore dei Giudei, venne Gesù, stette in mezzo e disse loro: «Pace a voi!». Detto questo, mostrò loro le mani e il fianco. E i discepoli gioirono al vedere il Signore. Gesù disse loro di nuovo: «Pace a voi! Come il Padre ha mandato me, anche io mando voi». Detto questo, soffiò e disse loro: «Ricevete lo Spirito Santo. A coloro a cui perdonerete i peccati, saranno perdonati; a coloro a cui non perdonerete, non saranno perdonati». Tommaso, uno dei Dodici, chiamato Dìdimo, non era con loro quando venne Gesù. Gli dicevano gli altri discepoli: «Abbiamo visto il Signore!». Ma egli disse loro: «Se non vedo nelle sue mani il segno dei chiodi e non metto il mio dito nel segno dei chiodi e non metto la mia mano nel suo fianco, io non credo». Otto giorni dopo i discepoli erano di nuovo in casa e c era con loro anche Tommaso. Venne Gesù, a porte chiuse, stette in mezzo e disse: «Pace a voi!». Poi disse a Tommaso: «Metti qui il tuo dito e guarda le mie mani; tendi la tua mano e mettila nel mio fianco; e non essere incredulo, ma credente!». Gli rispose Tommaso: «Mio Signore e mio Dio!». Gesù gli disse: «Perché mi hai veduto, tu hai creduto; beati quelli che non hanno visto e hanno creduto!». Gesù, in presenza dei suoi discepoli, fece molti altri segni che non sono stati scritti in questo libro. Ma questi sono stati scritti perché crediate che Gesù è il Cristo, il Figlio di Dio, e perché, credendo, abbiate la vita nel suo nome. Meet Fr. Joe Answering the call with compassion For Gary and Susan Pickering, Fr. Joe Mazzone is more than a pastor he is family. Like so many priests in our Archdiocese, Fr. Joe has been a source of strength and support, helping others find Christ s presence in times of joy and sorrow. When Gary and Susan s daughter Marcy passed away unexpectedly during surgery, Fr. Joe was the first person they called. Marcy had been a close friend of Fr. Joe s, and her faith life had blossomed with his help through challenging times in her life. Fr. Joe was there for the Pickerings as they said goodbye to their beloved Marcy then, and he remains by their side today. Together, they continue to grow in faith and friendship, confident that they will be reunited with Marcy again, and grateful for the hope they receive through each other in Christ Jesus.
