What is an OLED? Differently from the LED, an OLED is an optoelectronic device made up of several organic semiconductor layers. The standard structure of an OLED is composed of a protective glass basis, an anode layer, a plurality of organic layers for the maximisation of the current flux, an emissive layer, a cathode and finally a protective film. It requires a constant current driver. Cos è un OLED? A differenza del LED, un OLED è un dispositivo optoelettronico formato da una pluralità di strati semiconduttori organici. La struttura tipo di un OLED prevede una base vitrea con funzione protettiva, sormontata da uno strato che funge da anodo, diversi strati organici per l ottimizzazione del flusso di corrente, uno strato emissivo, un catodo e un film protettivo. As a double consequence, there is no light flux reduction by the lamp system nor a diffuser is required. The luminaire is therefore lighter. It is extremely thin and light. Given its high versatility, the OLED is ideal for the development of minimal and innovative design solutions: potentially it has no limits of shape; it can be rigid or flexible; white or coloured (the colour spectrum is entirely covered); opaque, mirrored or transparent. An OLED emits soft, diffused light, without glare nor marked shadows: it is therefore optimal for such visual tasks which produce major fatigue, like for instance learning or working. The reduction of excessive light-shadow contrasts has a great, positive impact on the visual comfort. An OLED is also eco-friendly: not only the heat dispersion is lower than any other light source, but it is also easily recyclable at its end of life, as it is mostly made up of glass. It is UV free. Caratteristiche fondamentali di un OLED La superficie luminosa dell OLED è estesa, non puntiforme. Questo ha due importanti conseguenze: l emissione luminosa non viene ridotta dal sistema lampada come nel caso delle altre fonti di luce e non è necessario l impiego di un diffusore, per cui il corpo illuminante risulta più leggero. È estremamente sottile e leggero. Vista la sua estrema versatilità, l OLED si afferma come fonte di luce ideale per creare forme di design minimal e innovativo: non ha potenzialmente limiti di forma, può essere rigido o flessibile, bianco o colorato (lo spettro cromatico è interamente coperto), opaco, a specchio o trasparente. Emette una luce diffusa e morbida, priva di abbagliamento e ombre importanti. Ciò lo rende ottimale per i compiti visivi che tendono a produrre maggiore affaticamento, quali studio e lavoro: la riduzione di contrasti eccessivi luce-ombra impatta fortemente e positivamente sul comfort visivo. L OLED è eco-friendly: non solo si ha una dispersione di calore minima rispetto a qualsiasi altra fonte di luce, ma essendo composto in larga parte da vetro è facilmente riciclabile alla fine del ciclo di vita.
