1 CONVENZIONE DI COTUTELA DI TESI DOTTORALE TRA L ALMA MATER STUDIORUM UNIVERSITA DI BOLOGNA E L'UNIVERSITA' DI ============ AGREEMENT FOR THE CO-DIRECTION OF A PhD THESIS BETWEEN THE ALMA MATER STUDIORUM - UNIVERSITY OF BOLOGNA AND ============ UNIVERSITY Visto l art. 4 della legge 3 luglio 1998, n. 210, recante norme in materia di Dottorato di Ricerca; Having regard to Italian Law n. 210, dated 3 July 1998, on PhD research; Visto il decreto del Ministro dell Università e della Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica del 30 aprile 1999, n. 224 in materia di Dottorato di Ricerca; Having regard to Decree n. 224, dated 30 April 1999, on PhD research, as issued by the Italian Ministry of Universities; Visto il Regolamento dell ALMA MATER STUDIORUM Università di Bologna, D.R. n. 202/2005 Having regard to the ALMA MATER STUDIORUM Bologna University regulation, D.R. n. 202/2005 TANTO PREMESSO THAT HAVING BEING SAID l'alma MATER STUDIORUM - Università di Bologna, con sede in via Zamboni, 33 Bologna, Italia, rappresentata dal Magnifico Rettore, Prof. Pier Ugo Calzolari, domiciliato per la carica presso la stessa Università e l'università di ============, con sede in ============, ===== rappresentata dal Magnifico Rettore Prof. ==============, domiciliato per la carica presso la stessa Università in merito alla regolamentazione dei rapporti tra le parti per la pratica attuazione del programma di ricerca della Dott.ssa ============, finalizzato alla preparazione di una tesi di Dottorato in co-tutela, secondo le modalità ed i termini di seguito previsti The ALMA MATER STUDIORUM - University of Bologna, whose headquarters are in via Zamboni, 33 - Bologna, Italy, represented for the purposes hereof by the Magnificus Rector Prof. Pier Ugo Calzolari, The University of ============, whose headquarters are in ============, ======= represented for the purposes hereof by the Magnificus Rector Prof. =============, and Regarding the co-direction of ============ s PhD thesis, according to the conditions and the terms set down below CONVENGONO E STIPULANO QUANTO SEGUE: IT IS BEING STATED AND AGREED Articolo 1 La presente convenzione di co-tutela di tesi di Dottorato di Ricerca viene stipulata esclusivamente a favore della Dott.ssa ============, iscritta al Dottorato di Ricerca in "============", presso l ALMA MATER

2 STUDIORUM - Università di Bologna. Accertati i requisiti richiesti, il Dott. ============ sarà iscritto al corso di dottorato in presso l Università degli studi di ============ per il conseguimento del titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in " ". Article 1 This agreement has been created exclusively for co-direction of the PhD thesis of Ms. ============, who is enrolled in the PhD course in =============, at the ALMA MATER STUDIORUM - University of Bologna. Having fulfilled the necessary requirements, Ms. ============ will then be enrolled in the PhD course in at the University of ============ in order for Ms ============ to obtain a research PhD degree in Art. 2 Il periodo di ricerca e redazione della tesi é di tre (3) anni, con decorrenza ===============. L Università di ============ riconosce piena validità al primo anno di studio presso l Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna. Se necessario detto periodo di tre anni potrà essere prolungato in accordo con la normativa vigente presso le due Istituzioni. Art. 2 The period for researching and writing the thesis is three (3) years, commencing from ===========. The University of ============ shall recognise the validity of the first year of study for the doctorate at the "Alma Mater Studiorum" - University of Bologna. If necessary this period of three years can be prolonged in accordance with the rules in force at both of the Institutions. Art. 3 Il lavoro di ricerca nonché di redazione della tesi dovrà essere svolto presso entrambe le Istituzioni secondo le modalità che verranno concordate da entrambi i direttori di tesi. Art. 3 The thesis shall be researched and written at both Institutions. The related terms and conditions shall be fixed by agreement between the two thesis supervisors. Articolo 4 La Dott.ssa ============ sarà iscritta presso entrambe le Istituzioni. L'iscrizione presso l'università di ============ sarà effettuata successivamente alla sottoscrizione della presente convenzione e verrà ripetuta ogni anno. Le tasse di iscrizione saranno versate eslusivamente all'alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna con esonero dal relativo pagamento presso l'università di ============. Article 4 Ms. ============ shall be registered with both Institutions. Registration with ============ University will be after the execution of the present agreement and renewed every year. The candidate shall pay registration fees only to the ALMA MATER STUDIORUM - University of Bologna and be exempted from such

3 fees at ============ University. Articolo 5 Per tutto il periodo di preparazione della tesi, il dott. ============ beneficerà della copertura sanitaria italiana, valida nei Paesi dell'unione Europea secondo i regolamenti comunitari vigenti in materia (modello E128). Per tutto quel che concerne gli ulteriori rischi non coperti da assicurazione prevista per legge, la dottoranda potrà provvedere autonomamente tramite una propria assicurazione personale. Article 5 For the entire period required to research and write the thesis, Ms. ============ shall be entitled to the benefits of the Italian National Health Service in accordance with the relevant European Union regulations (Form E128). The candidate may independently take out personal insurance for risks over and above those covered by the Italian National Health Service. Articolo 6 Il titolo della tesi in co-tutela, relativa alla ricerca sarà: " =============". Direttore di tesi e referente scientifico presso l'università di Bologna sarà il Prof. ============, presso l'università di ============ il Prof. ============. I due direttori di tesi si impegnano ad esercitare pienamente le loro funzioni di tutori della dottoranda. A tal titolo, essi si impegnano a collaborare, mantenendo un contatto costante al fine di valutare l'evoluzione dell'attività di ricerca della dottoranda. Article 6 The title of the PhD research thesis will be: Treaty override. The thesis supervisor at the University of Bologna will be Prof. ============, while Prof. ============ will be the Supervisor at ============ University. The two Supervisors undertake to collaborate in their guidance of the PhD candidate. As a result, they will combine their efforts and will communicate regularly with one another in order to evaluate the progress of the PhD candidate in her research. Articolo 7 La Commissione giudicatrice è nominata dai Rettori delle due Istituzioni (in ossequio alle modalità previste dai Regolamenti di Ateneo in materia di Dottorato di Ricerca) ed è composta da accademici italiani e ===========i in numero pari, tra cui i due direttori di tesi., Article 7 The examination commission shall be appointed by the rectors of both universities (in accordance with the procedures set forth in the universities regulations on research doctorates) and shall have an equal number of Italian and ==============, including the two thesis supervisors. Articolo 8 L unica discussione della tesi dottorale avrà luogo presso l Università di ============. A seguito del giudizio positivo della Commissione giudicatrice sulla discussione dell unica tesi, redatta in ===== ciascuna delle due università conferirà il proprio titolo di dottore di ricerca. La commissione giudicatrice compilerà e sottoscriverà una versione in italiano ed in inglese del verbale secondo il modello normalmente utilizzato dall Università di Bologna, nel quale si attesterà che la discussione della tesi dottorale ha avuto esito positivo. L Università di Bologna, sulla base di detto verbale, conferirà il titolo di dottore di ricerca.

4 Article 8 There will be a single thesis defence at ============ University. Following a favourable report issued by the examination commission on the defence of the single thesis written in English, each of the two universities will award two distinct PhD degrees. The examination commission will complete and sign a single standard form used by the University of Bologna which testifies that a thesis has been defended successfully. In this case the form shall be written in both English and Italian. The University of Bologna will then award the Italian degree. Articolo 9 La tesi sarà unica e redatta in Inglese. Una breve sintesi sarà redatta in italiano. La discussione finale avrà luogo in inglese. Ciascuna delle due università rilascerà un Diploma finale. Quello rilasciato dall Università di ============ sarà redatto in lingua inglese, quello rilasciato dall Università di Bologna sarà redatto in lingua italiana. In ciascuno dei due diplomi sarà specificato il conferimento del titolo dottorale da parte di entrambe le università coinvolte nella presente Convenzione. L Università di Bologna rilascerà il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in ============; L Università di ============ rilascerà il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in ===============. Article 9 The only thesis shall be written in English. A short summary shall be written in Italian. The oral defence of the thesis shall be in English. Each of the two Universities will give two distinct final degree diplomas. The Diploma awarded by the ============ University will be written in English. The Diploma awarded by the University of Bologna will be written in Italian. In each diploma it will be specified that the PhD degree has been awarded by both universities involved in the present Agreement. The University of Bologna will award a PhD degree in ============ The University of ============ will award a PhD degree in ==============. Art. 10 Le Università contraenti si impegnano, attraverso l intermediazione dei rispettivi direttori di tesi, a scambiarsi vicendevolmente tutte le informazioni e la documentazione utili per l organizzazione della co-tutela di tesi della Dott. ============, oggetto della presente convenzione. Art. 10 The contracting Universities, through the offices of their respective thesis supervisors, undertake to exchange all information and documentation useful for the purposes of organising the co-direction of the PhD thesis of Ms. ============, that is the subject of the present agreement. Art. 11

5 La presentazione, il deposito e la riproduzione della tesi avranno luogo secondo le modalità previste dalle leggi in vigore in ciascun Paese. La tutela dell oggetto della tesi, così come la pubblicazione, lo sfruttamento e la protezione dei risultati ottenuti con lo studio di ricerca della dottoranda nelle Università contraenti saranno assoggettati alla normativa in vigore e tutelati conformemente alle procedure specifiche di ciascun Paese coinvolto nella cotutela. Qualora richiesto, le disposizioni relative alla protezione dei diritti di proprietà intellettuale potranno costituire oggetto di protocolli o documenti specifici. Art. 11 The presentation, deposit and reproduction of the thesis shall be done in both countries in accordance with the relevant laws in force. The protection of the subject matter of the thesis and likewise the publication, exploitation and protection of the results obtained by the candidate's research in the contracting Universities shall be subject to the applicable law in force and guaranteed in compliance with the specific procedures in this regard of each of the countries involved in the joint thesis. If requested, the provisions connected with intellectual property rights may be agreed upon in specific protocols or documents. Art. 12 La presente convenzione entra in vigore dalla data della sottoscrizione da parte del legale rappresentante di ciascuna Università contraente e sarà valida fino al conferimento del titolo. La convenzione potrà essere modificata, per accordo delle parti, anche successivamente alla sua sottoscrizione. Nel caso in cui il candidato non si iscrivesse presso una delle Università contraenti, oppure rinunciasse per iscritto a proseguire la co-tutela, oppure, a seguito della decisione di almeno uno dei due direttori di tesi, non fosse autorizzato a proseguire la preparazione della tesi in co-tutela, le Istituzioni contraenti porranno fine, congiuntamente e senza ritardo alle disposizioni del presente accordo. Art. 12 This agreement shall be effective as and from the date of its execution by the authorised representative of each contracting University and shall be valid until the two universities will award the two PhD degrees The agreement can be modified also after its execution provided that both Institutions agree. In the event that the candidate does not register in one or other of the contracting Universities, renounces in writing or is not authorised to continue researching and writing the thesis by virtue of a decision made by one of the two thesis supervisors, the contracting Institutions shall jointly and without delay terminate this agreement. Art. 13 Il presente accordo é stilato in due copie originali aventi forza di legge, ciascuna delle quali redatta in inglese ed in italiano.
