2 The Fallas, World Heritage The Fallas festival is unique. Thousands of Valencians take part in this festival, with a Mediterranean flavour, which is a source of collective creativity. For several days in March, towns in the Valencian Community are converted into momentary art museums celebrating the arrival of spring. Music, fireworks, traditional attire, joy, sociable people working together, blazing and purifying fires, colour, the warm welcome given to those visiting for the first time... These are just some of the ingredients that make this festival so special. In fact, in recognition of its creative values and ritual practices, which began decades ago and are repeated every year, the festival was awarded Intangible Cultural Heritage status by UNESCO on 30 November The Falla represents the backbone of the festival. Rituals such as the plantà (final completion) and the cremà (burning) of the ephemeral sculptures are a permanent fixture. A complex network of associations organises all kinds of recreational activities with guaranteed fun. The streets are alive with the colour and sound of firework displays, and music is everywhere. The city of Valencia becomes an open stage, where visitors will be amazed to hear festive music at every turn. Colour comes courtesy of the silk worn by the falleros and falleras during all official events. They dress in their finest attire, which primarily recreates the clothing worn by Valencians in the 18th and 19th centuries. Traditional Valencian cuisine completes an experience that delights the senses. Come and capture the essence of this unique festival and enjoy truly magical moments. 3 Le Fallas, Patrimonio dell Umanità La festa delle Fallas è unica. Questa festa, che ha un sapore mediterraneo, coinvolge migliaia di valenzani ed è una fonte di creatività collettiva. Per alcuni giorni, in marzo, questo festival trasforma le città valenzane in musei d arte effimera per festeggiare l arrivo della primavera. La musica, la polvere da sparo, gli abiti tradizionali, l allegria, il lavoro di squadra e la socializzazione dei suoi abitanti, il fuoco più vigoroso e purificante, il colore, la calorosa accoglienza a chi viene a viverle per la prima volta... Sono solamente alcuni degli ingredienti che rendono questa festa un qualcosa di particolare. Difatti, i valori creativi e i rituali che si ripetono ogni anno da decenni, lo scorso 30 novembre 2016 fecero in modo che fosse dichiarata Patrimonio Immateriale dell Umanità dalla UNESCO. La falla è l asse portante della festa. Ed ogni anno si ripetono i rituali, come la plantà (fine della installazione) e la cremà (bruciatura) delle sue sculture effimere. Possiede anche un complesso tessuto associativo, che produce attività ludiche di ogni tipo, grazie alle quali il divertimento è assicurato. Gli spettacoli pirotecnici donano colore e suoni alle vie, come la musica. La città di Valencia diventa un palcoscenico all aperto, sul quale il visitatore può sorprendersi in ogni luogo, grazie alle note della musica festiva. Il colore è dato dalle sete degli abiti che i falleros e le falleras vestono in tutti gli eventi ufficiali. Indossano i loro migliori abiti, che ricordano quelli dei valenzani e delle valenzane dei secoli XVIII e XIX. La gastronomia tradizionale valenzana completa l esperienza, che diventa un piacere per tutti i sensi. Vi invitiamo a cogliere la sua essenza e a vivere dei momenti magici. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry s most famous work, this project compiles the best-known scenes in this book. It s a tribute to an internationally popular, cross-generational novella currently the second most read book ever, after the Bible. The Little Prince has been considered a children s book due to its formal features, but it actually deals with deep topics such as the meaning of life, loneliness, friendship, love and loss. This is why it is addressed to both kids and adults it teaches the younger ones about values and connects adults with their childhood. In occasione del 75 anniversario del Il piccolo principe, la più famosa opera letteraria di Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, viene realizzato questo progetto che raccoglierà le scene più famose di questo libro, un omaggio ad un romanzo conosciuto dal pubblico a livello internazionale e generazionale, infatti oggi è il secondo libro più letto, dopo la Bibbia. Il piccolo principe è stato considerato un testo per bambini a causa della sua natura formale, ma in realtà si tratta di questioni profonde come il significato della vita, la solitudine, l amicizia, l amore e la perdita. Questo è il motivo per cui è rivolto a bambini e adulti, insegnando valori ai più piccoli e connettendo gli adulti con la loro infanzia

12 City s Falla Sketch Slogan: Equilibrio Universal Artists: Latorre and Sanz Craftsmen Design: Okuda This falla prompts us to take an ironic approach on the pyramid of values on which our society stands. A totem-shaped sculpture represents this symbolic, meaningful item that has been admired and venerated by many cultures and societies. The structure invites us to walk the path between what is real and what is not, what we have dreamt and what he have lived, the supernatural and the worldly, and then reaches its peak with a thought everyone has had at some point: money rules our existence in this society. On the round base we can see the universe holding life and connecting with the human being. A merry-go-round of figures represents both nature and the myths that have been born from it. Unicorns, animals and passive angels staring at the audience lead us to a second level in which the human footprint, depicted by a brick wall, holds a civilization that gazes doubtfully at our changing, cyclic lives. Four human faces with different skin colors represent humanity and show the core essence in each individual. This is meant to express the fact that, even though we might have different origins, we all share the same skin and the same destination. The lively colors in two of these faces depict youth, newness, the road ahead; whereas the lack of color (gray tones) in the other two faces depicts experience, what we already know, the road behind. A multicolored spiky star rests on all four faces as a crown to continue with the totem structure. It is the Kaos Star, a flashy asymmetric compass rose which reminds us that no matter where we are or what we are doing, it is vital to find our own reference points in order to achieve our goals. It is a statement of freedom and optimism for the world we are living through. The crest of our totem shows an interpretation of two classical muses shaped as birdwomen, raising and protecting a world fed by money. This world can t help being a cash box and the coin going into it is a frivolous smiley, the iconic depiction of happiness in our time, enjoying the position it s been given in this pyramid. All in all, this falla uses its own language to express the existential conflict modern society faces in a tasteful, positive and coloristic way. 22 FALLAS OF VALENCIA From 1 to 19th March 23

13 Abbozzo falla Slogan: Equilibrio Universal Artisti: Latorre e Sanz artigiani Disegno: Okuda Questa Falla propone di riflettere con ironia sulla scala dei valori che sostengono la società attuale. Lo fa con una scultura a forma di totem per rappresentare quel simbolo iconico pieno di significati che è stato ammirato e adorato nella mitologia dalle diverse culture e società. Una struttura che propone un viaggio tra l immaginario e il reale, il desiderato e il vissuto, il soprannaturale e il terreno per concludersi sulla cuspide con una riflessione che tutti conosciamo: nella società odierna il denaro governa la nostra esistenza. Nella sua base circolare troviamo l universo che tiene la vita e si connette con l essere umano in un carosello di figure che rappresentano la natura e la mitologia creata attorno ad esso. Unicorni, figure animali, angeli passivi che contemplano lo spettatore, lasciano passo ad un secondo girone in cui l impronta umana, sotto forma di costruzione in mattoni, è soggetta a una civiltà che guarda incredula alla natura mutevole e ciclica delle nostre vite. Quattro volti umani con diversi colori della pelle rappresentano l umanità e mostrano l essenza che sta alla base di ogni individuo per indicare che, pur avendo origini diverse, condividiamo la stessa pelle e lo stesso destino. I colori vibranti di due di questi volti rappresentano il giovane, il nuovo, la strada da percorrere, mentre l assenza di colore (grigio) sulle altre due facce rappresenta l esperienza, il conosciuto, la strada percorsa. Una stella con un infinità di punte e colori si poggia sulle quattro facce sotto forma di corona per continuare a costruire la nostra struttura totemica. È l iconica Kaos Star una rosa colorata e asimmetrica dei venti che ci viene a dire che non importa dove ti trovi, o cosa stai facendo, l importante è avere i tuoi riferimenti per raggiungere i tuoi obiettivi. Una dichiarazione di libertà e ottimismo per questo mondo in cui viviamo. Nella parte superiore del nostro totem troviamo un interpretazione di due muse classiche nella forma di donne-uccelli che allevano e proteggono un mondo alimentato dal denaro. Un mondo che non smette di essere un salvadanaio in cui una moneta entra con il sorriso frivolo della rappresentazione iconica della felicità dei nostri tempi, uno Smiley a chi piace la posizione che questa scala dei valori li conferisce. Insomma, un opera che usa il proprio linguaggio per esprimere in modo estetico, positivo e colorato il conflitto esistenziale della società contemporanea
