Sacred Heart 303 Paris Street East Boston, MA 02128 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This weekend our parish begins its Grand Annual Appeal. Over the past few weeks I have underlined the significance of this collection to our parish family. More than ever, we are in dire need of everybody s support. Whatever donation you are able to make, large or small, will be greatly appreciated. As in the past, you are welcomed to make a one time donation or you may space out your gift over three installments. This year, we have set a more aggressive goal than last year. Our goal for this year, once again is $50,000. Last fiscal year, we suffered a devastating deficit of $29,000. In order to balance last year s budget, we had to borrow from our reserve funds. This all but depleted any savings we had. We seriously need all to help in this year s collection. Please consider your donation carefully. As I wrote last weekend, Sacred Heart Parish is grateful for every donation regardless of how large or small. We simply ask each member of the parish to give their donation serious thought and prayer. As always, one Hundred Percent of your donations to the Grand Annual Collection remains at Sacred Heart and to be used solely for Sacred Heart projects. The truth is, this is different for every person and for every family. For some, a $1,000 gift wouldn t even pinch. But for others, a $500 donation would be a huge burden. Please consider a donation that would cause a bit of a pinch but would not become a real burden. Please give in a manner that will help us but not hurt you. A note from Fr. Wayne... The cover of the bulletin this weekend shows pictures of our Altar. People often inquire what is the most important thing that we do here at Sacred Heart. I have to respond without hesitation that the most important thing we do is the celebration of the Holy Mass. The Holy Mass is the center of all parish activities. It is in the Holy Mass that we encounter the Lord on the hill of Calvary. It is in the Holy Mass that we experience the depths of God s love for us. It is in the Holy Mass that we are united to Heaven. The Holy Mass is our participation, with the great Communion of Saints, in the eternal feast of Heaven. When I was preparing for priestly ordination, I was stationed at St. Mary s in Winchester. A sign hung above the doors of the Church which simply read: This is the most important thing you will do all day. As we enter Holy Mass this weekend, let us acknowledge that this truly is the most important thing we will do today. Merry Christmas Don t blame me for rushing the season! Already, before Halloween, all the major retail stores have a section designated for Christmas. As usual, however, they call it the holiday section. I am amazed that all retailers are standing in line to reap the financial benefits from a season they fail to recognize or acknowledge its true meaning. Let s start early and remind people that the season is Christmas! It is all about the birth of Christ. Help us in spreading the message. We will once again have car or home magnets that display in a beautiful fashion the true meaning of this season. The magnets are only $5.00 each and all proceeds from them will be used to provide gifts this Christmas to those within our community. They will be available after each of the Masses until they last. We have only 100, so get them early and get the message out! St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Drive and mini-flea Market will be held on Saturday, November 1st from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Salesian Boy s and Girl s Club parking Lot. Please come and support this worthy cause. Grazie!!! A word of thanks to Ursula and her staff at Mario s Ristorante for a great Italian Extravaganza. The food was great, as always, and the fun was limitless. In that one afternoon, we raised for the parish $4,000.00. Many thanks to all who purchased tickets and bid on the silent auction items.
