II design focus essay il contract come terra di mezzo tra design ed architettura the contract as middle ground between design and architecture text by Alfonso Morone Il contract rappresenta, proprio per la relazione che istituisce con l architettura, una fenomenologia ricorrente, spesso alla base di alcuni tra i più noti capolavori del design italiano. Contracts represent, precisely because of the relationship it establishes with architecture, a recurrent phenomenon. And many of the most famous masterpieces of Italian design owe their existence to contracts.

Il contract rappresenta quella terra di mezzo che si situa tra le modalità proprie dell architettura, per cui il manufatto è necessariamente irripetibile perché legato al pretesto contestuale, e quelle del design, il cui prodotto è infinitamente replicabile proprio perché atopico. Nel contract il prodotto si configura all interno di un progetto specifico sulle sue necessità, per poi prendere il largo da esse, seguendo una via autonoma che lo porta, spesso, a sopravvivere alla stessa scomparsa dell elemento originario che lo aveva generato ed a cui, in maniera apparentemente indissolubile, appariva legato. Si tratta di una circostanza che riporta il design alle sue origini, al confronto con la cultura della piccola serie e del fare artigianale, e che proprio per questo resta il segno più evidente dell appartenenza di questa nuova disciplina, che si misura con il fare seriale della produzione industriale, alla dimensione storica ed immutabile dell architettura. Nel panorama del nostro Paese, tradizionalmente segnato dalla prevalenza della figura del designer-architetto, il contract rappresenta, proprio per la relazione che istituisce con l architettura, una fenomenologia ricorrente, spesso alla base di alcuni tra i più noti capolavori del design italiano. Proprio questa premessa spinge a ripercorrere alcuni noti esempi di questa prassi che rappresentano, allo stesso tempo, episodi fondativi nella storia del design italiano e della sua capacità di legarsi a bisogni sociali collegati alla mobilità, all ospitalità, all intrattenimento sino alla scolarizzazione di massa, e che dall estensione collettiva passano, pari pari, alla dimensione individuale della residenza. Possiamo dare l avvio a questa piccola rassegna partendo proprio dall approccio globale al progetto di uno dei maestri del razionalismo italiano, Giuseppe Terragni attraverso quella che è la sua opera più famosa: la Casa del Fascio. Qui Terragni disegna tutto: finiture, porte, maniglie, pavimenti, lampade, tavoli, scrivanie, scaffalature e sedute, come la sedia Lariana e la poltroncina Benita, costruite in tubolare metallico e piani di legno o imbottiti. Qualche anno dopo, lo stesso approccio totalizzante si ritroverà nell asilo del quartiere Sant Elia. Il progetto d arredo, in questo caso, è ricondotto alla scala del bambino. Viene pertanto progettata una piccola seduta, anch essa in tubolare metallico con piano e schienale in compensato, in cui il tubolare si piega, collegando in un unica linea continua lo schienale al pavimento per poi terminare nel disegno del sedile. Una sedia solida, confortevole e sicura che rappresenta, nelle sue aspirazioni, una sorta di archetipo per ricerche su oggetti specifici per l infanzia che verranno tanti anni dopo. Passiamo al contributo di colui che rappresenta, meglio di ogni altro, il pontiere tra la tradizione architettonica italiana la nascente cultura del design. Gio Ponti, tra tanto altro, progettò gli interni di alcune navi, vanto della Marina Mercantile italiana, che furono uno dei simboli della volontà di rinascita del nostro paese dopo il conflitto mondiale. I transatlantici Conte Grande, Conte Biancamano, Giulio Cesare, Andrea Doria che collegavano l Italia con l America del Nord e del Sud; le motonavi Oceania e Africa, con gli omonimi continenti, rappresentarono un riferimento per la affermazione internazionale di uno stile peculiarmente italiano. Negli arredi che Ponti progetta per i grandi transatlantici egli segna una nuova tappa dall affrancamento dal decorativismo, ancora prevalente nel mobile lussuoso, per intraprendere decisamente la via del cosiddetto styling del sottile, cioè del mobile che aspira ad una leggerezza conquistata attraverso un continuo processo di assottigliamento degli elementi costruttivi. Già la poltroncina 504, progettata per le sale da pranzo del Conte Grande, presentava delle gambe molto sottili, rastremate verso la punta rivestita con un rinforzo metallico nel punto terminale. Questo modello, ulteriormente ridotto nel peso, eliminando i braccioli, e con lo schienale leggermente inclinato, darà luogo alla 699, universalmente nota come Superleggera. La seduta più nota di Giò Ponti, tenuta in produzione dalla Cassina per oltre trent anni. Ancora il mare si ritrova come tema fondante di un altro progetto collettivo di Ponti: l Albergo Parco dei Principi a Sorrento. Con trenta disegni diversi della pavimentazione, ognuno dei quali permette nel montaggio due o tre combinazioni, si ottengono cento diverse applicazioni, corrispondenti esattamente al numero delle stanze dell Albergo. Una ricerca specifica, generata dalla magia del luogo, che pure trova una sua estensione, una sorta di generalizzazione, nella produzione industriale delle piastrelle in maiolica fatta dal produttore salernitano D Agostino. Avviandoci alla conclusione di questa breve ed incompleta antologia possiamo solo sfiorare l attività di uno dei maestri indiscussi del design italiano come Achille Castiglioni. Egli si dedicò al prodotto industriale da una cognizione dell elemento spaziale che deriva dalla sua formazione architettonica e che possiamo ritrovare chiaramente in progetti come quello della lampada a sospensione Splügen Bräu. Nata dalle esigenze specifiche di un bar-ristorante, lo Splügen Bräu a Milano appunto, doveva fornire una luce bassa sul tavolo da pranzo, evitando la trasmissione di calore sul banco. La soluzione è un diffusore a termos in alluminio lucidato, cavo e corrugato, che grazie ad una superficie di scambio termico amplificata, come quella di un radiatore, permette una efficace dispersione del calore, mentre la calotta riflettente posta in basso riesce a trasmettere una luce concentrata sul piano del tavolo. La capacità dell oggetto, partendo da una necessità specifica di risolvere un bisogno generale, cioè quello di avere una luce bassa sul piano di un tavolo da pranzo, è dimostrata dal suo enorme successo. Ancora oggi, infatti, questa lampada continua ad essere prodotta da Flos. Contracts represent the middle ground between the characteristic approaches of architecture, where the construction is perforce unrepeatable because it is linked to the contextual pretext, and those of design, whose product can be replicated infinitely precisely because it is not related to any given site. In contracts, the product is created as part of a specific project, on the basis of its requirements, to then depart from it and venture on its own path, which often makes it survive the very disappearance of the project within which context

It is a matter of a circumstance which brings design back to its origins, to dealing with the culture of limited editions and craftsmanship methods; and this is the very reason why and the most evident sign of the fact that this new discipline, which measures swords with industrial mass production, really belongs to the historical and immutable history of architecture. In our national scenario, traditionally characterized by the predominance of the designer cum architect, contracts represent, precisely because of the relationship it establishes with architecture, a recurrent phenomenon. And many of the most famous masterpieces of Italian design owe their existence to contracts. It is precisely this premise that makes it necessary to retrace some famous examples of this kind of project, which at the same time represent fundamental episodes in the history of Italian design and its ability to form connections with the social needs linked to mobility, hospitality and entertainment not to mention public education and which have made the transition, without undergoing any modifications, to the individual sphere of the home. We may begin this small review with the global approach to design characterizing one of the masters of Italian rationalism, Giuseppe Terragni. In his most famous work, the Casa del Fascio, Terragni designed everything: surfaces, doors, handles, floors, lamps, tables, desks, shelves and seating furniture as the Lariana chair and the Benita armchair, built in metal tubes and padded wooden panels. Some years later he adopted the same totalizing approach when designing the kindergarten of the Sant Elia district. The furniture design has in this case been adapted to the infant scale. The architect has therefore designed a small chair, also in this case using metal tube and plywood for the seat and backrest, where the tube is bent so as to connect, in a single continuous line, the backrest to the floor in order to then terminate in the design of the seat. It is a matter of a solid, comfortable and safe chair which has represented, in terms of aspirations, a kind of archetype for researches on specific objects for infancy which were to be conducted many years later. We will now pass to the contribution of someone who has, more than any other, represented the bridge builder between the Italian architectural tradition and the nascent design culture. Gio Ponti has, among others, designed the interiors of several ships that were the pride of the Italian Merchant Navy and one of the symbols of our country s desire to turn a new leaf after the World War. The ocean liners Conte Grande, Conte Biancamano, Giulio Cesare, "Andrea Doria" which connected Italy with Northern and Southern America and the motorships Oceania and Africa, which plied the routes to the homonymous continents, were testimonials of the international assertion of a unique Italian style. In his design of furniture for the great liners Ponti inaugurated a new phase of the emancipation from decorative styles, still predominant, in luxury furniture, decidedly opting for the so-called styling of subtlety, or in other words furniture items which pursue a lightness achieved through a continuous process of dematerialization of the parts. Already the 504 armchair, designed for the dining halls of the Conte Grande, had very thin legs that tapered towards the extremities, which were covered by a metal reinforcement. A later version of this model, rendered even lighter by the removal of the armrests and equipped with a slightly inclined backrest, became the 699, universally known as the Superleggera or super-light; it is a matter of Gio Ponti s most famous chair, which Cassina was to continue producing for more than thirty years. The ocean was the central theme also of another project by Ponti, the Parco dei Principi Hotel in Sorrento.

With thirty different floor designs, each of which could be assembled in two or three different ways, he created a hundred different combinations, corresponding precisely to the number of rooms of the Hotel. A unique research, inspired by the magic of the place, which was continued in a kind of generalized interpretation in the industrial production of majolica tiles of the Salerno-based manufacturer D Agostino. Before we reach the conclusion of this short and incomplete anthology we are only able to touch on one of the undisputed masters of Italian design, namely Achille Castiglioni. He dedicated himself to industrial design on the basis of a cognition of the spatial element rooted in his education as an architect, and which are clearly recognizable also in projects as the Splügen Bräu suspension lamp. Created to meet the specific requirements of a bar-restaurant, the Splügen Bräu in Milan, it had to provide a low light on the dining tables and thus avoid transmitting heat to the counter. This problem was solved by means of a thermos-type diffuser in polished aluminium, hollow and corrugated, whose amplified thermal exchange surface, not unlike that of a radiator, allows an efficient dispersion of the heat, while the reflecting calotte placed below succeeds in casting a concentrated light onto the table surface. The ability of this object, created to meet a specific requirement, to meet a more general need, that is to say the demand for a low light on the surface of a dining table, is demonstrated by its enormous success. In fact, this lamp is still produced by Flos today.

VI design focus essay dalla sedia al sistema from chair to system text by Ali Filippini Sull idea di prodotti e sistemi per una nuova ospitalità si muovono alcuni progetti recenti dal mondo della produzione. Some of the latest designs launched by the industry centre on the idea of products and systems for a new hospitality. UNICA, Marcello Ziliani, Donati.

Risiede nella personalizzazione del progetto e nella capacità di poter sviluppare importanti commesse, il fattore su cui oggi gioca in campo internazionale il ruolo delle aziende italiane contract oriented. Aziende che sono nella fattispecie le stesse ad operare nel residenziale, fatto che crea una sorta di osmosi tra i due ambiti dove gli stessi progettisti forniscono dei prodotti che persino all apparenza appaiono già predisposti per passare da una parte all altra. Ma vale anche il contrario per cui dall esperienza dell arredo per la collettività si ricavano sistemi e prodotti che possono essere trasferiti alle tipologie domestiche. E poi come non-riconoscere alla buona parte della produzione di arredi in circolazione, per interni ed esterni, un ruolo chiave nel connotare gli ambienti pubblici sempre più pertinente ad un immagine di benessere e loisir che si vogliono ricercate e quindi di alto profilo? Ad esempio, in linea con una riscoperta del valore dello spazio pubblico, i nuovi alberghi, i ristoranti, persino i musei, non rinunciano a una terrazza arredata con i prodotti del miglior design. A questo si somma l esigenza di allestire per varie ragioni eventi commerciali, sportivi o mondani dove la ricerca della sedia o della lampada scultura diventa essenziale alla costruzione della cornice ambientale. Sull idea di prodotti e sistemi per una nuova ospitalità, si muovono quindi alcuni progetti recenti dal mondo della produzione. Il nuovo sistema, Big Cut, disegnato con il solito rigore geometrico dalla designer francese Matali Crasset per Plust, completamente in plastica, è pensato per le mutevoli esigenze degli ambienti contract. Asseconda lo spirito di convivialità, con un impianto modulare che si basa sulla praticità e multifunzionalità dei singoli elementi che lo compongono. Quindi due o più elementi combinati insieme progettano divani, poltrone, chaise longue, isole, penisole, set, pouf e tavolini per arredare spazi fino a mille posti. È un pezzo unico invece la poltroncina America di Marc Sadler per Slide, dalle forme anni Cinquanta, realizzata sempre in plastica, completata con un comodo cuscino in poliuretano espanso. La particolarità è che viene realizzata anche in una finitura laccata che reinventa i prodotti della collezione rendendoli più eleganti e adatti per rispondere alle esigenze del mercato residenziale e del contract. Pensata ancora per la collettività e l arredo di sale riunioni, aree di accoglienza, alberghi, bar, ristoranti e locali pubblici in genere, è la seduta UNICA del design Marcello Ziliani dietro il cui sviluppo si nasconde il know how dell azienda Donati specializzata in lavorazioni con il metallo. Quest ultima ha supportato il progettista per studiare un sistema modulare di sedute costituito da una scocca realizzata in pressofusione di alluminio. La caratteristica principale sta nella possibilità di personalizzazione, per cui ogni sedia può essere personalizzata attraverso texture a intaglio sull intera superficie realizzate in modo completamente diverso per ciascun cliente. L ulteriore elemento di flessibilità è la possibilità di declinarla nelle varianti tipologiche di poltroncina con braccioli, sedia, sgabello, con la possibilità quindi di creare una famiglia di prodotti completa e coordinata. Altre proposte sono, già dal punto di vista formale, più indicate a transitare in ambienti residenziali. Come nel caso del sistema di sedute X-SOFT di Mario Mazzer per Alma Design, con una seduta dal disegno un po organico dall accogliente scocca interna completamente imbottita e rivestita e differenti andate a terra, con diverse finiture e materiali, che rendono questo sistema estremamente flessibile. O la nuova sedia di Poltrona Frau, di Roberto Lazzeroni, dalle linee sartoriali con la scocca rivestita internamente da pelle e all esterno in cuoio, cuciti fra loro con bordo a taglio netto, e impunture a vista che tracciano sul retro della seduta un motivo grafico nascondendo allo sguardo la cerniera che chiude come in un vestito il rivestimento. A highly personalized design and an ability to meet the requirements of large contracts are essential factors for succeeding in the international market, and a priority for contract-oriented Italian companies. These companies actually also operate in the home furniture sector, something which results in a kind of osmosis between the two spheres, where the same designers create products which seem, even in terms of appearance, to be made especially so that they may pass from one side to the other. But also the opposite is true, and in other words that the experience developed in the contract furniture area may serve to create systems and products that may be adapted to domestic typologies. And it is hard to ignore that much of the current furniture production, both for indoor and outdoor use, seems aimed at giving public areas an increasingly marked character of wellness and leisure, with carefully studied lines and thus an exclusive profile. For instance, in line with a rediscovery of the importance of public areas, new hotels, restaurants and even museums seldom lack a terrace furnished with the very latest creations of famous designers. Also when events commercial, sports or society happenings are organized, it becomes essential to find the right chair or sculpture-lamp in order to create a proper setting. Some of the latest designs launched by the industry therefore centre on the idea of products and systems for a new hospitality. The new Big Cut system, wholly in plastic, designed with the customary geometric rigour by French designer Matali Crasset for Plust, has been conceived to meet the changing needs of contract areas. It adapts to a spirit of conviviality, with a modular system based on the practicality and versatility of the single components. Two or more elements can therefore be combined to create couches, armchairs, chaise longues, islands, peninsulas, sets, poufs and coffee tables to furnish areas with up to a thousand places. The compact America armchair by Marc Sadler for Slide is, on the contrary, an independent unit. Also this chair, whose forms remind of the Fifties, is made in plastic; a comfortable cushion in polyurethane foam assures comfort. The peculiarity of this item is that it is also available in lacquered version; this surface treatment gives the items in the collection a very different air, rendering them more elegant and suited to meet the requirements of both the home furniture market and the contract sector. Also the UNICA chair by designer Marcello Ziliani is intended for public areas and as furniture for meeting rooms, reception areas, hotels, bars, restaurants and public venues in general. The designer has cooperated with Donati, a firm specialized in metalwork, whose knowhow has been essential to developing the product and to studying a modular chair system formed by a body in die-cast aluminium. The principal characteristic of the item is that it may be personalized: every chair can be rendered unique through intaglio covering the entire surface, with different designs for each customer. The chair can be equipped with armrests and is therefore available in the versions of armchair, chair and stool; this flexibility makes it possible to create a complete and coordinated family of products. Other new products are, already in terms of design, more suited to use also in the home. This is for instance the case of the X-SOFT seating system created by Mario Mazzer for Alma Design, whose somewhat organic seat with an appealing, completely padded and upholstered interior and different support structures, in addition to a variety of surface treatments and fabrics, make the system extremely versatile. Or the new chair designed by Roberto Lazzeroni for Poltrona Frau, with tailored lines and a body upholstered in soft leather on the inside and a thicker hide on the outside, sewn together so as to form a conspicuous edge with visible stiches which trace, on the back of the chair, a graphic motif that conceals the zip fastener which closes the upholstery as if it were a garment.

Uno spazio dal forte spessore contenutistico e segnico, un luogo di rigenerazione ed ossigenazione dei sensi per allontanare lo stress della vita quotidiana, un nido di benessere fortemente connotato dal design degli arredi, delle superfici, dei complementi: la stimolazione sensoriale è l obiettivo principale dello SPA Hotel Incontro di Ariano Irpino, vicino ad Avellino, disegnato dall arch. Simone Micheli. Linee curve, forme sinuose, superfici lucide e colori vivaci: tutti i tratti tipici della cifra architettonica del progettista toscano trovano compimento in questo centro benessere dalla forte suggestione polisensoriale, la cui atmosfera vive della contrapposizione tra intense luminosità di alcuni punti notevoli e le tonalità più neutre e rarefatte dei percorsi. Ma non è l unico contrasto sul quale gioca lo spazio: reale e irreale, emozione e materia, interno ed esterno si confrontano in una dicotomia che genera situazioni inaspettate, esperienze inedite, presenze magiche, atmosfere fiabesche. Ne nasce un luogo curato ed accogliente, dalle linee morbide ed innovative di cui colpiscono le forme irreali e sconosciute, i colori brillanti, ottenuti attraverso una studiata e attenta illuminazione, che rende gli oggetti di design vivi ed interattivi. Il percorso d accesso è costellato da alberi scultorei bianchi, lucidi, scintillanti, che uniscono la terra al cielo, rappresentato dal soffitto nel quale si aprono geometriche velette illuminate. Sulle pareti, grandi bussole dalla forma sferica sono retro illuminate per favorire lo sguardo all interno; concrezioni estetiche ma anche funzionali che permettono al visitatore di percepire cosa accade al di là delle pareti, all interno delle stanze. Il progetto vive di superfici dai colori accesi e brillanti, piani lisci e levigati, senza soluzione di continuità, siano essi parte di pareti o elementi notevoli come il banco della reception o i complementi d arredo. Caratteristiche riscontrabili in tutte le tipologie di stanze che offre il centro, nella contaminazione di differenti destinazioni sensoriali che si integrano in un ambito spaziale costruito come luogo interattivo, ibrido, emozionante, nel quale regnano superfici, suoni e acqua. Dalla stanza di galleggiamento, tempio di profonda e sognante acquatica distensione alla salt room, nella quale il benessere è nebulizzato e si respira; dalla sala dedicata al relax dove tendaggi nitidi dai delicati ed impalpabili movimenti scendono dal soffitto creando un ambiente raccolto, sicuro, protettivo, che trasmette la sensazione di trovarsi dietro una quinta teatrale, alla VIP Room nella quale pareti reticolari conducono gli ospiti attraverso percorsi che lasciano intravedere gli spazi e le dotazioni della stanza come la minipiscina idroterapica, il bagno di vapore o i lettini accoglienti. Perfetta armonia di forme, luci e colori, che interessano anche le cinque diverse cabine, nelle quali vengono effettuati i diversi trattamenti offerti dal centro. Vista e tatto sono protagonisti anche dei rivestimenti, firmati Tagina Ceramiche d Arte. La matericità contraddistingue infatti la collezione Wire System, scelta per i pavimenti della SPA e nata dalla collaborazione tra l azienda e Simone Micheli. Studiato per fornire risposte estetico-prestazionali alle differenti richieste progettuali del mercato residenziale e contract, il sistema ceramico sviluppato da Tagina propone soluzioni ad hoc per particolari contesti, come la finitura Hammered, ideale proprio per ambienti wellness perché consente di massaggiare il piede nudo a contatto con il pavimento, ma diventa allo stesso tempo un decoro di impatto anche utilizzato come rivestimento. Alta qualità artigianale e capacità industriale di ingegnerizzazione dei processi, know how aziendale, conoscenza della materia prima e tradizione nella lavorazione della ceramica, volontà di dar vita a un sistema rivoluzionario in grado di introdurre nuovi campi segnici e funzionali nell architettura: sono le premesse che hanno consentito a Tagina di dar vita all innovativo progetto Wire System, il sistema ceramico completo e versatile, capace di animare ogni spazio per renderlo altamente sensoriale oltre che funzionale. Grazie alla collaborazione con Simone Micheli, l antica tecnica del collaggio, viene riletta in chiave moderna, e applicata a forme e dimensioni mai sperimentate prima. Il risultato è un sistema concepito per risolvere ogni situazione progettuale, declinato in numerosissimi elementi con i quali rendere gli spazi infiniti, continui, fluidi. Curved lines, sinuous shapes, glossy surfaces and bright colours: all the traits typical of the Tuscan architect s style may be found in this wellness centre, with its strong multi-sensorial suggestions, where a special atmosphere is created by juxtaposing bright light at certain points with neutral, rarefied hues on the routes linking them. But this is not the only contrast determining the look of the space: real and unreal, emotional and material, interior and exterior face off in a dichotomy that generates unexpected situations, new experiences, magical presences and fairy-tale atmospheres. The result is a well-cared-for, welcoming place with soft, innovative lines, where we are struck by unreal, unknown forms and bright

X design focus zoom colours obtained through carefully studied and attentive use of lighting to bring design objects to life and render them interactive. The entry is dotted with sculptural white trees, shiny and sparkling, uniting the earth with the sky, represented by the ceiling with its geometric illuminated downstands. Big round dials on the walls are backlit to encourage us to look into them - aesthetic but also functional concretions allowing visitors to see what is happening on the other side of the walls, inside the rooms. The project thrives on bright colours and smooth, polished continuous surfaces, whether they be parts of walls or important elements such as the reception desk or the furnishing accessories. These features may be found in all the centre s rooms, in a contamination of different sensorial purposes coming together in a spatial environment constructed as an exciting hybrid interactive space dominated by surfaces, sounds and water. From the floating room, a temple of profound, dreamy relaxation in the water, to the salt room, where wellness is nebulised so that it can be breathed in; from the relaxation room where crisp drapery descends from the ceiling with a delicate, impalpable motion to create a cosy, safe, protective space that makes you feel like you are backstage in a theatre, to the VIP Room with its mesh walls leading guests along a route that allows them to glimpse the room s spaces and fittings, such as the mini hydrotherapy pool, the steam bath or the comfortable cots. The same perfect harmony of form, light and colour may be found in five different cabins where the centre offers a variety of treatments. Un progetto ambizioso, che ha l obiettivo di ridisegnare una porzione di un tessuto urbano complesso come quello della capitale britannica, integrando funzioni pubbliche e private anche attraverso l uso di materiali contemporanei. La ceramica è l indiscussa protagonista del progetto, presente sia nell inedito e colorato rivestimento delle facciate esterne, sia nei pavimenti e rivestimenti interni. La linea Artech di Ceramiche Refin (dimensioni 60x60cm), è stata utilizzata nella hall centrale, nei corridoi interni e nei numerosi terrazzi (declinata nella versione Grip per esterni nelle dimensioni 30x60cm), in un alternanza di toni caldi e freddi che contrastano con gli esterni dai colori vivaci come l arancio e il verde. Tra il settimo e il decimo piano sono distribuiti oltre 1500mq di terrazze e una serie di innovativi giardini invernali, che aggiungono un ulteriore comfort per gli occupanti degli uffici e degli appartamenti. The Central Saint Giles complex in central London includes 109 residential units as well as restaurants, shops (arranged around a central plaza) and numerous offices. This ambitious project aims to redesign a portion of the complex urban fabric of the British capital, combining public and private functions and incorporating use of contemporary materials. Ceramics are the essential key to the project, covering both the unusual coloured outer façades and the floors and walls inside. Ceramiche Refin s Artech line (dimensions 60x60cm) is used in the central hall, the internal corridors and the numerous patios (in the Grip version for outdoor use, measuring 30x60cm), with an alternation of warm and cold hues that contrasts with the bright colours such as orange and green used on the outside of the building. Between the seventh and the tenth floors are more than 1500 square metres of patios and a series of innovative winter gardens, adding an extra luxury for the people in the offices and apartments.

Il progetto racconta una vita legata ai ritmi lenti della natura, un luogo magico lontano dal caos e dal rumore della città, nel quale la cultura dell accoglienza diventa una vera e propria attitudine alla cura e al benessere degli ospiti. Il resort offre la possibilità di ospitare meeting, convegni, incontri conviviali, spettacoli, manifestazioni culturali ed artistiche nella moderna sala privé dotata di tutti i comfort. The resort is designed for living according to the slow rhythms of nature, a magical place far removed from the noise and chaos of the city, where the culture of hospitality becomes a real aptitude for taking care of guests and ensuring their wellbeing. The resort can host meetings, conventions, convivial ceremonies, performances and cultural and artistic events in a private hall of modern design offering every imaginable comfort. Eight theme rooms welcome guests in the silence of the hills, with views over the building where balsamic vinegar is made. In the elegant, refined décor, the bathroom fixtures, taps, and a number of the bathtubs are made by Ceramica Flaminia: from Acqualight or Dip sinks to Wash tubs, from WCs and bidets in the Mini Link collection to the One line of taps available in variants for sinks, bidets or freestanding bathtubs.

Alle valenze tecnologiche green l hotel associa un design sofisticato ed elegante che si traduce in camere accoglienti e allo stesso tempo funzionali, nelle quali le linee inclinate e non convenzionali riescono a modificare la consueta percezione della camera d albergo. All interno del progetto, i sistemi Eclisse per cartongesso hanno trovato applicazione nell ampia sala conferenze, attrezzata per meeting ed eventi privati, nella quale Syntesis Line Estensione monta una porta a doppia anta in vetro nero e alluminio; nella Diamond room, la camera più esclusiva dall atmosfera chic e dalla caratteristica illuminazione a led viola, è stato impiegato invece il sistema Unico per cartongesso per una porta scorrevole in vetro grigio trasparente e alluminio con maniglia dado. Wellness and eco-sustainability are the key concepts behind the Pineta Eco-Hotel in Monsano, a project inspired by the twin goals of environmental sustainability and energy conservation. The facility is classified in energy class A and features a thermal and photovoltaic solar installation, rainwater recycling and all the connections for installation of a future geothermal system. The hotel combines green technologies with sophisticated, elegant design, translating into welcoming yet functional rooms in which unconventional slanted lines change the way we normally view a hotel room. In this project, Eclisse plasterboard systems are used in the large conference halls, set up to host meetings and private events, in which the Syntesis Line Estensione has a door with two leafs of black glass and aluminium; in the Diamond Room, the hotel s most exclusive room, with a chic atmosphere and characteristic purple led lighting, the Unico system is used for plasterboard on a clear grey glass and aluminium sliding door with a nut handle.

All interno di questa singolare architettura a uovo, nella quale le pareti si piegano a formare una cupola puntellata da ampie finestre, le stanze agli ultimi piani costituiscono sicuramente un luogo inedito nel quale il design classico e senza tempo degli arredi USM si traduce in soluzioni ad hoc raffinate e funzionali in grado di adattarsi alle dimensioni variabili del perimetro dell edificio. Lo spazio sotto la cupola, è stato suddiviso in due parti: una lounge accogliente dedicata al ricevimento dei clienti che possono osservare grazie alle pareti divisorie in vetro lo svolgersi delle attività all interno degli uffici, a sottolineare la trasparenza dell azienda. Per rispondere alle esigenze di natura funzionale e istituzionale dell azienda, sono stati progettati su misura scaffali, armadi e tavoli della linea USM Haller realizzati in nero grafite e superfici trasparenti in contrasto con l acciaio opaco delle strutture portanti. Modularity and versatility: two of the features ensuring the extraordinary success of USM s furnishing systems are put to the test in the plans for the former IMAX cinema in Dettelbach. In this unusual egg-shaped building in which the walls fold over to form a dome dotted with large windows, the rooms on the top floors become very unusual spaces in which the classic timeless design of USM furnishings produces refined, practical custom-designed solutions capable of adapting to the variable dimensions of the building s perimeter. The space underneath the dome has been divided into two parts, with a cosy lounge where clients can observe the work going on in the offices through glass dividing walls, underlining the company s transparent way of doing business. To respond to the company s functional and corporate needs USM custom designed shelving units, cabinets and tables in the USM Haller line, in graphite black with transparent surfaces contrasting with the matt steel of their weight-bearing frame.

Grandiose chaise-longue accolgono il visitatore nella reception, impreziosita da velluti e tappeti pregiati mentre statue e dipinti decorano pareti e corridoi. La luce del giorno filtra solo debolmente dai pesanti tendaggi di seta: l arredamento barocco è rischiarato solo dalla luce delle candele e da un illuminazione indiretta. Anche i bagni sono ovviamente in linea con lo stile dell hotel e accolgono gli ospiti tra preziose superfici a mosaico dai colori molto accesi e decorativi ripiani in marmo dalla presenza imponente. In questo contesto, le vasche Duravit soddisfano il desiderio di relax e benessere dell ospite, da solo o in compagnia, che può godere del comfort della vasca singola Starck o di quella doppia Paiova. I lavabi e i vasi Happy D., disegnati da Sieger Design, completano le pittoresche sale da bagno. The Belle époque of Paris is back, but in the fjords of the west coast of Sweden: Göteborg s ostentatious Hotel Dorsia takes us back in time with the eccentric interiors and the princely atmospheres of its common areas and its 37 rooms, each furnished differently. Grandiose chaise-longues welcome visitors in the reception area, embellished with velvet and precious carpets, while statues and paintings ornament the walls and corridors. Daylight filters only weakly through the heavy silk curtains, and the Baroque décor is lit up only by candlelight and indirect lighting. The bathrooms are of course also in line with the hotel s style, welcoming guests with precious mosaics in bright colours and decorative, imposing marble counters. In this context, Duravit bathtubs are perfect for satisfying guests desire for relaxation and wellness, alone or in company, enjoying the comfort of the Starck single bathtub or the Paiova double bathtub. In particolare in questo progetto sono stati impiegati pannelli Hexaben (spessore 21mm) nella versione con anima in honeycomb di alluminio a cella (diametro 9mm) e superfici in Acrilico color Arancio e Fumé chiaro, lucidi. I moduli sono stati uniti fra loro con un sistema di bordo da 6mm e incastro a maschio-femmina, tutto in acrilico trasparente. Frutto di un intensa attività di ricerca tutta italiana nel settore delle materie plastiche, Hexaben è il pannello più leggero della gamma Bencore e nella versione con pelli satinate produce giochi di trasparenze inimitabili, abbinando l aspetto meramente tecnico dell anima in alluminio visual grade, a quello emozionale trasmesso dalla luce filtrata dai singoli alveoli e che fanno vivere il composito. Possono essere impiegati per piani, pareti divisorie, porte, controsoffitti e altre installazioni nel mondo del contract di interni. Technology, ecology and design, for solutions guaranteeing mechanical performance, lightness and transparency associated with a strong aesthetic character determined partly by colour: the panels in the Hexaben Collection were used in the offices of C.F.M. in Paris. This project uses Hexaben panels (21mm thick) in a version with a honeycomb core of aluminium cells (9mm diameter) and Acrylic surfaces in the colours Orange and Light Smoked, with a glossy finish. The modules were combined together with a 6mm edge system and a male/female slotted fit, all made of clear acrylic. The product of intense research in the field of plastic materials in Italy, Hexaben is the lightest panel in the Bencore range, and in the version with a satin skin it can produce inimitable effects of transparency, combining the merely technical aspect of visual grade aluminium with the emotional qualities conveyed by light filtered through single cells to make the composite come to life.
