4 Microsoft UK Headquarters Offices The project Replace existing chiller systems on two three-storey office buildings at the Microsoft Campus, Thames Valley Business Park, Reading. Carried out by Polar Cooling Services Ltd, Ashford,Kent. What was the challenge at Microsoft? Their challenge was to: - replace the existing McQuay chillers with the latest technology; - ensure duty capacity was acceptable to maintain building temperature; - work within the existing roof footprint; - reduce running costs and ensure best efficiency and CO ² footprint; - offer the best price for the job; - complete work on each building over a weekend to avoid disruption to staff and service. Description of equipment: GALAXY Tech, air cooled water chillers with R410A featuring hermetic scroll compressors. AQUAFREE, modular liquid coolers for freecooling systems. Total installed cooling capacity: 3144 kw Total installed free-cooling capacity: 932 kw Microsoft runs a 24-hour, seven day a week operation at its Thames Valley headquarters and it needed an air conditioning system to match. 5 The MTA chillers offer reduced noise levels, due to the availability of three differing acoustic versions. There are high EER levels, especially at part loads (ESEER). They are ideal for large hydronic air conditioning installations in public and private surroundings and allow start up and operation even in the most severe conditions. WHaT Was THe solution? E2 were looking for an ambient temperature in each room of C. The market-leading system was expensive and would have needed a great deal of manufacturer-led assistance at the installation. Customer wanted the most energy efficient, cost effective and easy to install solution so decided to replace the existing roof-top chillers with MTA chillers, 9 and 12 compressors models, delivering chilled water for air conditioning. Importantly, the MTA chillers can be supported by free-cooling. Our distributor (Polar Cooling Services Ltd) realised that this addition would make a significant difference in cutting energy bills for Microsoft. The MTA chillers offer reduced noise levels, due to the availability of three differing acoustic versions. There are high EER levels, especially at part loads (ESEER). They are ideal for large hydronic air conditioning installations in public and private surroundings and allow start up and operation even in the most severe conditions. There is easy installation with direct access to water and piping connections. The chillers are simple to install and maintain with accessible components. They have a user-friendly controller with multifunction and dynamic display icons. THe advantages of free-cooling Free-cooling is an economical method of using low external air temperatures to assist in chilling water, which can then be used for industrial process or air conditioning systems. When the ambient air temperature drops to a set temperature, automatically adjusted according to the water return temperature, a modulating valve allows all or part of the chilled water to by-pass an existing chiller and run through the free-cooling system, which uses less power and the lower ambient air temperature to cool the water in the system. The free-cooling modules works as slave of the chillers so they do not need any additional set-up. At Microsoft the MTA chillers were designed with a water temperature of 12 C. 6 Free-cooling is an economical method of using low external air temperatures to assist in chilling water, which can then be used for industrial process or air conditioning systems. The free-cooling showed its worth immediately. During the first week the building was cooled by free cooler only the temperature outside was very cold saving 70 per cent in energy costs. When this happens no refrigerant is required and energy use begins to tumble. Our distributor estimated that this could lead to energy savings during the winter months of as much as 70 per cent. While during the warm summer months the system can offer savings of 40 per cent. A top up of refrigerant can be offered to the system as and when needed. WHaT HappeneD on installation? The first system has been installed over the Easter weekend 2013 by Polar Cooling Services Ltd. Two McQuay 1Mw chillers were replaced by: - 2 pieces GALAXY Tech 270 N with S&T evaporator and electronic fan speed control - 2 pieces AFV 300 N with electronic fan speed control Emerson Crane Hire of Dagenham assisted with the rooftop work. Four weeks later two McQuay 1Mw chillers were removed from the second building and replaced by Polar Cooling Services Ltd: - 2 pieces GALAXY Tech 285 N with S&T evaporator and electronic fan speed control - 2 pieces AFV 300 N with electronic fan speed control The new chillers were then installed, fixed to the water and electrical circuits, and commissioned ready for the start of the working week. The new chillers run on R410a, replacing the outdated R22. Each MTA system offers remote monitoring. conclusion The free-cooling showed its worth immediately. (CAI) di alcune attività del vecchio Gruppo Alitalia in amministrazione straordinaria comprendente le compagnie Alitalia, Alitalia Express, Volare (con i suoi marchi commerciali Volareweb e Air Europe) e l acquisto in toto da AP Holding delle società Air One, Air One CityLiner, Air One Technic ed EAS - European Avia Service. Al termine dell operazione di acquisizione, la società CAI ha assunto la denominazione Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A. La nuova compagnia aerea opera in tutto il mondo raggiungendo tutti gli HUB più importanti con milioni di passeggeri ogni anno. IL PROBLEMA Il centro direzionale della Magliana è stata oggetto di una riqualificazione dei sistemi di refrigerazione del locale CED. Le macchine precedentemente installate avevano ormai molti anni di lavoro e si è proceduto con una sostituzione con unità molto più efficienti. It was assumed that in this multi-functional center will be underground garage, supermarket, cafes, shop, cinema, restaurants and entertainment venues. The installed chillers of the GALAXY TECH series, with environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant, represent the best solution for centralised hydronic air conditioning for large areas and offer energy savings in all operating conditions. The multi scroll technology used in the GALAXY TECH series, proportionally adapting the cooling capacity produced to the actual demand from the system, allows a decrease in the hydraulic volume required for thermal inertia as well as considerable energy savings. LA SOLUZIONE IMPIANTISTICA Nel dettaglio trattasi di 2 refrigeratori della gamma GALAXY Tech modello GLT 150 N (con una potenza frigorifera di 450 kw cad.) collegati su un unico serbatoio esterno che deve essere mantenuto ad una temperatura di circa 4 C. L acqua refrigerata viene portata al condensatore di processo attraverso una terza pompa. Viste le differenti e portate e T, tra circuito primario e secondario, abbiamo adottato una soluzione con serbatoio esterno detto disgiuntore idraulico, in questo modo i due circuiti risultano completamente indipendenti. First Qlandia shopping center was opened in Maribor in Now we have in Slovenia 6 shopping centers, which are spread throughout Slovenia. Qlandia in Krško as a sixth shopping mall chain in these shopping centers opened 21st April It is situated on 11,000 m2 of sales area, and there are 474 outdoor parking spots. Qlandia in Krško offers visitors plenty of fun at the wide selection offered by the 35 shops and bars in the center. Total installed cooling capacity: 250 kw THE CUSTOMER Elettroplast was founded in 1985 with a fleet of 4 presses specializing in injection molding for third parties, in 2001 Elettroplast moved its production to the industrial area of Paludi increasing the number of presses up to 33. The Company since 2005 has a department for the fast Packaging. The industrial production use robotic systems for the unloading of presses and for the processing of some semi-finished products. Currently Elettroplast is the main supplier of the De Longhi Appliances for what concerns the components of coffee machines. THE PROBLEM The cooling circuit was, for the 33 presses, constituted by 2 free-coolers, one with adiabatic system, managed by temperature controllers and connected to oil exchangers and to the molds. The customer was in trouble during the summer period, because if cooled water temperature exceed 25 C, the production can be delayed. THE SOLUTIONS MTA has developed an integration to the existing system. In detail has been connected a chiller Aries Tech 110N to the existing circuit to support the free-coolers in chilling the water to when the free-coolers are not able to supply the water at the setted temperature. For an automatic system management MTA has recommended and supported the installer in selecting a 3 way valve.
