A note from Fr. Wayne... During halftime, the high school basketball coach was trying to motivate his team as they struggled to stay in the game. You re not really trying, he said, you re just going through the motions. Your bodies are here, but your minds and hearts are a million miles away. Where s your commitment? Get in the game! Focus on what you are doing. Give it 100% or we are sure to lose. Jesus wants to know what the Apostles are thinking about Him. He asks and it is Peter who answers for them all. Ironically, it is Peter who tries to spare Jesus from the Cross, and later, Peter will deny even knowing Jesus. His body was there, but his mind and heart were elsewhere. Peter s faith wavered because of his fear and uncertainty. But once He recovers and is strengthened by the Holy Spirit, Peter will be the first to proclaim the Gospel and the first to lead the Church, People struggle with faith. Our minds want to understand what we believe; we look for insight into what our hearts desire; we want to be more certain about our values, morals and choices. If you struggle, you are on the right path. Don t worry about spiritual trends in society or how loudly others may speak out against all that is holy. Let your life witness answer the question of faith: who do you say that He is? PARISH DEVOTIONS Rosary and Confession Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. Lectio Divina Each Monday evening at 6:15 p.m., we gather to pray together over a particular Gospel passage to have a greater appreciation of God s word among us. Tuesdays with Mary Every Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. for the Holy Rosary. The Cenacle The 1st Friday of each month after the 5:00 p.m. Mass & the 4th Friday of the Month at 6:00 p.m. Eucharistic Adoration Saturday after the 8:00 a.m. During Adoration, we pray the Rosary, have time for confession, and spend some quiet moments with the Lord. From the Deacon s desk. The rhetoric is over the decision is ours! The two political parties have met and the nomination process is complete. The decision on who leads our nation for the next four years is ours to make. As Catholic-Christians, we can make a difference with our vote. For those of you, who are thinking, he is at it again! You are right! The people of God need to accept their Catholic-Christian responsibility and VOTE their Catholic-Christian conscience. We hear and read of the numerous PACS and special interest groups that are pouring millions of dollars, into this election we have to ask ourselves, why? The answer is simple much is at stake. Ask yourself, as a Catholic-Christian, do you know where the candidates stand on these issues: 1.) Abortion: The Church teaches any law permitting abortion is never licit to obey it or to take part in a propaganda campaign in favor of such a law. 2.) Euthanasia/Physician Assisted Suicide: Often disguised by the name "mercy killing," this is a form of homicide. No one has a right to take a life, regardless of whose it is. 3.) Fetal Stem Cell Research: Human embryos are human beings. "Respect for the dignity of the human being excludes all experimental manipulation or exploitation of the human embryo. 4,) The Sanctity of Marriage: Preserving the true meaning of marriage as a union of one man and one woman. Legal recognition of any other form of "marriage" undermines the true meaning. Old habits die hard! Do not forget the following Mass responses. The Lord be with You *And with your Spirit Lift up your hearts *We lift them up to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God *It is right and just Banns of Marriage I. GLORIA SECONDO DELLE SCRITTURE IL MESSIA SOFFERENTE Sebbene Cristo si sia esplicitamente riferito una sola volta al tema del Servo sofferente (Lc 22,27; cf Is 53,12), la tradizione primitiva non ha mancato di notare numerosi accostamenti. È vicino chi mi rende giustizia: chi oserà venire a contesa con me? Affrontiamoci. Chi mi accusa? Si avvicini a me.
Ma egli, voltatosi e guardando i suoi discepoli, rimproverò Pietro e disse: «Va' dietro a me, Satana! Rit. Lodate Dio, uno e trino Signore, Lodate Dio, meta e primio dei buoni; Cantate a lui, sorgente d ogni bontà Per tutti i secoli. Amen.
