FACOLTÀ DI SCIENZE POLITICHE CORSO DI LAUREA IN SCIENZE POLITICHE E DELLE RELAZIONI INTERNAZIONALI Insegnamento di LINGUA INGLESE SSD L/LIN12 12 CFU - A.A. 2016/2017 Docente: George Michael Riddell Mail: george.riddell@unicusano.it Obiettivi formativi: The aims of the course are to provide students with the reading strategies and analytical tools necessary to decipher and understand a wide variety of text types on subjects associated with their study programme, depending on faculty. Risultati formativi attesi: By the end of the course, students should have acquired the ability to use specific reading strategies to enable them to understand text-types related to their course of study. Modalità didattiche: Video-lessons, on-line didactic materials, self-assessment tests, classroom lessons. Metodologia di valutazione: Written examination, with texts chosen from those on the platform, with specific comprehension questions, e.g. True/False, words and definitions, etc. Oral examination: presentation of a short dissertation on an indicated topic, to be discussed in English before the exam commission. Contenuti del corso: The course is divided into two parts: the first six lessons of the new programme outline the strategies needed to decipher meaning and to understand the structure of sentences and paragraphs. Lessons are devoted to inferring meaning from context, on the lexical aspects such as collocation and compounding, on sentence structure, on
grammatical and lexical cohesion within a text, and also on American usage and the specialised language of newspapers. The second part of the course consists of a series of texts specific to the faculty concerned, with examples of the type of comprehension questions that students can expect to meet in the written exam. L esame da 12 CFU contiene quattro dei testi inclusi nella piattaforma; per il programma ridotto (4-6 CFU), l esame consiste in due testi scelti dai primi quattro inclusi nella piattaforma. Dalla sessione di aprile 2017, agli studenti che opteranno per la prova orale in lingua inglese presso il campus universitario di Roma, sarà richiesto di rispondere alle domande su un testo a scelta del docente tra quelli inclusi nella piattaforma. Per il programma ridotto (4-6 CFU) il docente sceglierà il testo solamente tra i primi 4 di quelle presenti nella dispensa unica in piattaforma.
