Colucci, 2011) Il con 7 ghiacciai estesi su un area totale di 0,19 km 2 è la Regione delle Alpi Italiane meno glacializzata (0,05 % del totale con un area media di 0,03 km 2 ) e quella che ospita il minor numero di apparati glaciali. Tutti i ghiacciai si concentrano nelle Alpi Giulie nel gruppo Canin-Montasio (tab.1) e sono collocati sul fondo di circhi dalle ripide pareti rocciose, esposti verso Nord e compresi unicamente nella classe dimensionale più piccola, ovvero <0,1 km 2. La sopravvivenza di questi apparati è da attribuirsi, oltre che all esposizione settentrionale, all alimentazione sinora garantita da frequenti episodi valanghivi e dalla deposizione di neve trasportata dal vento (Colucci & Forte, 2013). Di questi corpi glaciali, 6 sono classificati come glacionevati e solo uno, il Montasio Ovest (981), viene identificato come ghiacciaio montano nonostante la ridotta superficie; studi recenti, infatti, hanno rilevato un ancora efficace trasferimento di massa dal bacino collettore al settore di ablazione (Carturan et al., 2013). Alcuni degli apparati glaciali del Friuli, in particolare il Canin Est (984) e il Canin Ovest (985), insieme agli estinti Prestrelenig e Ursic, sono annoverati nel cosiddetto glacialismo mediterraneo (Messerli, 1980). Il confronto con i dati del Catasto CGI mostra una stazionarietà nel numero degli apparati glaciali e una sensibile (-50 %) riduzione areale. In particolare dei 7 ghiacciai elencati nel Catasto CGI, 3 risultano estinti, 2 (Canin Est, 984 e Canin Ovest, 985) si sono frammentati, mentre è stato inserito nel nuovo Catasto un apparato prima non segnalato (Conca Prevala, codice 982.1). Va sottolineato come l individuazione e la delimitazione delle aree di apparati di questo tipo (ridottissima superficie con estesa copertura detritica o nivale ed alimentazione prevalente da valanga) sia molto difficoltosa e quindi le elaborazioni offrano solo un indicazione di massima. Si sono poi confrontati (tab.2) solo i ghiacciai per i quali oltre al dato CGI fosse disponibile anche la superficie aggiornata (ovvero solo gli apparati comuni ai due catasti). Nel caso di apparati frammentati, si è considerata la somma delle unità minori. In questo caso il confronto ha interessato 4 apparati nel Catasto CGI (corrispondenti a 6 apparati attuali a seguito della frammentazione). L area totale si passata da 0,29 km 2 nel 1959-1962 agli attuali 0,17 km2 con una contrazione di 0,12 km 2 (-41% ). Un confronto, seppur solo a livello regionale, è stato realizzato anche con il Catasto WGI, dove per il vengono elencati 7 apparati glaciali con superficie totale di 0,70 km 2. Il confronto con la situazione attuale segnala quindi una stabilità numerica e una riduzione areale di 0,51 km 2 corrispondente al 73 %. Only seven glaciers, covering a total area of 0.19 km 2 (~ 0.05% of the whole Italian glaciation, mean glacier value 0.03 km 2 ), are found in, thus making it the lowest one of the glaciarized Regions of the Italian Alps. All the Friuli -Venezia Giulia glaciers are located in the Alpi Giulie (Montasio Canin group, Tab.1) and the cirque valleys nesting these small ice bodies feature high and steep slopes. The glaciers are still present and active due to their North preferred aspect (which reduces the incoming solar energy fluxes thus mitigating the melting rates) and to the actual snow feeding mainly provided by both frequent avalanche events and wind deposition phenomena (Colucci & Forte, 2013). Considering the glacier type, six of the ice bodies are labelled as glacieret and only one, the Montasio Ovest (981), is classified as moun- Gruppo montuoso Mountain Group Tab. 1 Numero ghiacciai Nuovo Catasto Number of glaciers New Inventory tain glacier : in fact, in spite of its very small area, recent studies (Carturan et al., 2013) have reported an actual glacier flow transferring mass from the accumulation basin to the ablation sector. Some glaciers of, in particular the Canin Est (984), the Canin Ovest (985) and the two ones now labelled as extinct glaciers and named Ursic and Prestrelenig, have been included in the Mediterranean glaciation (Messerli, 1980). All the seven glaciers are included in the smallest size class (i.e. <0.1 km 2, Tab. 2). The recent evolution of the glaciation can be analyzed by comparing these new data to the past ones reported in the CGI inventory. The total glaciarized area results decreased of about 50% (from 0.38 km 2 to 0.19 km 2 ). In the CGI inventory 7 glaciers were listed: 3 of them are now labelled as extinct, 2 glaciers (Canin Est, 984 and Canin Ovest, 985) are now split into 4 fragments and one glacier (Conca Prevala, 982.1) which has not been detected and Numero ghiacciai Catasto CGI Number of Glaciers in the CGI Inventory Area Nuovo Catasto (km 2 ) Cumulative area New Inventory (km 2 ) mentioned before, is now inserted in the New Italian Glacier Inventory. The above reported picture of Friuli glaciation can be partially affected by slight uncertainties mainly due to difficulties in detecting and mapping so small debris-covered and avalanche fed glaciers. Moreover, if a fragmentation occurs, we compared the CGI value with the one obtained by crediting the areas of all the derived glacier fragments. A reduction of 41 % is found, from 0.29 km 2 of CGI inventory to the actual 0.17 km 2. We also compared the new data describing glaciation with the ones listed in the WGI. The WGI described in Friuli 7 glaciers covering an area of 0.70 km 2. Then an area reduction of 0.51 km 2 (-73 %) occurred.
