3 PET SYSTEMS PET Poliethylene Terephtalate Polietilentereftalato PET transformation takes place in innumerable applications as beverages containers, spinning sector, large mouth containers, bottles for cosmetics. In these processings, hundreds thousands tons and sometimes millions tons per year are transformed. The expense for the energy purchase represents the second company cost immediately afterwards the raw materials. Moretto Plastics Automation has developed several low energy consumption solutions in sectors as drying, crystallization, transport, recovery and dosing. Low energy consumption is the focus in our projects in order to give value to our customers and for the environmental protection. In queste lavorazioni vengono trasformate centinaia di migliaia e talvolta milioni di tonnellate per anno. Moretto Plastics Automation ha sviluppato alcune soluzioni a basso consumo energetico per il trattamento del PET: deumidificazione, cristallizzazione, trasporto, recupero, dosaggio. 4 About Drying MOLECULAR CHAIN + + H 2 2 O + + H 2 O In the polymer synthesis process some water molecules remain trapped. The moisture is removed from the surface as a consequence of the heat and of the dried air adsorbing capacity. 7 DEW POINT Importance of Dew Point Importanza del Dew Point Someone says that the quality of the Dew Point is not a necessity for the drying. In any case X MAX works with a constant value of -65 C. In the graph below there is the X MAX final moisture value measured in ppm with a constant dew point of -65 C and the Honeycomb dryer final moisture value with a dew point of -35 C considering PET drying. Qualcuno dice che la qualità del Dew Point non è necessaria per deumidificare. In ogni caso X MAX lavora con un valore costante di -65 C. Nel grafico sottostante si può notare il valore di umidità finale in ppm di X MAX con un Dew Point costante di -65 C ed un dryer Honeycomb con un Dew Point di -35 C nella deumidificazione del PET. 9 PET SYSTEMS SX Standard drying system on ground Sistema di deumidificazione standard a terra PET transformation requires a preventive and highly precise drying with a very low final residual moisture not higher than 30 ppm. This result is achieved by using high efficiency drying plants as the one represented in the drawing sideways. SINCRO 600 system is a plant suitable for the treatment of these materials, thanks to its high performances and to the quality of the components. La trasformazione del PET richiede una deumidificazione preventiva molto accurata con una umidità finale molto bassa non superiore ai 30 ppm. Questa si ottiene con impianti di deumidificazione ad elevata efficienza come rappresentato nel disegno a lato. Il sistema SINCRO 600 è un impianto adatto al trattamento di questi materiali, grazie alle elevate performance ed alla qualità dei componenti. 9

In this case dehumidified material is released by gravity directly to the material throat of the machine. The dehumidifying dryer can be installed on the platform together with the drying hopper or separately on the floor. This configuration optimizes the application by realizing an ideal process. IMM Principalmente i sistemi PET hanno la caratteristica di posizionare la tramoggia direttamente sopra la pressa con strutture proprie per ottimizzare gli spazi a terra. Con questa soluzione il materiale deumidificato scenderà direttamente alla bocca della pressa. Il deumidificatore può essere installato sopra la piattaforma insieme alla tramoggia o a terra. Questa configurazione ottimizza l applicazione realizzando un processo ideale. 11

13 PET SYSTEMS SPLIT Drying system Sistema di deumidificazione Versione SPLIT Suction Anit Unità Aspirante Cyclone Filter Filtro a Ciclone In case the available height does not allow the installation of the drying system on a mezzanine above the I.M.M., it is necessary to place the system beside the machine using a SPLIT configuration with a main hopper on the floor and a second smaller hopper on the machine. The second hopper is equipped with an indipendent heating group and guarantees the dried material Is treated at a temperature not below 170 C. Of course, a specific transport system is used to transfer the hot material from the main hopper to the second one. In this application the energy cost is lightly higher than the one of a system placed on a mezzanine. The material is transferred by dehumidified air through fully insulated stainless steel pipes. Qualora l altezza disponibile non consenta l installazione su soppalco sopra la I.M.M., è necessario un piazzamento a fianco macchina con un sistema SPLIT che prevede una tramoggia a terra ed una seconda tramoggia sulla macchina. Questa seconda tramoggia è dotata di gruppo autonomo e dovrà garantire il granulo secco, ad una temperatura non inferiore ai 170 C. Naturalmente un apposito sistema di trasporto sarà utilizzato per il trasferimento del materiale caldo dalla tramoggia principale a quella split. In questa applicazione il costo energetico risulta leggermente superiore rispetto ad un sistema su mezzanino. Il trasferimento del materiale avviene in circuito chiuso utilizzando aria deumidificata con tubazione coibentata. IMM 13

17 UREKA X MAX Modular Dryer Dryer Modulare Flexible dehumidification unit using the zeolite technology. X MAX extends the X Technology consequently leading it to a modular concept of drying units. These unit can be combined in a complete system configured of a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 10 units. In this way it is possible to realize drying systems up to 10 absorbing towers according to the required dimensions. 19 X MAX Constant performance Costanza di rendimento The X MAX units can be assembled with a minimum of 3 units and a maximum of 10 units. The regeneration of each unit is realized through rotation: while one unit is in regeneration, the other units are in process simultaneously. The airflow is variable and it adjusts automatically according to the necessities of the process, avoiding thermal stress of the polymer and changes of the viscosity. 21 X MAX FLOWMATIK X MAX is a project aimed to the maximum flexibility in large drying systems up to m 3 /h. The dryer has a single sieves holding tower with variable airflow. In the X Technology project up to 10 units are installed in a battery. When a single machine is in regeneration phase, all the others are in process. UREKA CONTROL manages the exact airflow according with the FLOWMATIK system so optimizing the X MAX units up to switch off those units that don t need to be employed in the process. During these phases the machines not used can be scheduled for maintenance whereas the system continues to operate. X MAX è un progetto rivolto alla massima flessibilità nei sistemi di deumidificazione di grandi dimensioni, fino a m 3 /h. Il dryer è monotorre con airflow variabile. Nel progetto X Technology vengono installate in batteria fino a 10 unità. Mentre una sola macchina è in fase di rigenerazione, tutte le altre sono dedicate al processo. 23 UREKA PET SYSTEM OTX Original Thermal Exchanger OTX plays a key role in the drying process. The innovative internal geometry solves the material fl ow down problems, allowing to manage the drying process in the most effi cient way and inspecting the hopper inside. Its particular internal shape guarantees an homogeneous air and thermal fl ow ensuring an optimal granule treatment with huge reduction of energy consumptions compared to conventional hoppers. The same hourly throughput measured with kg/h is guaranteed with a 40% less time and energy compared to traditional standard hoppers. The distinguishing Spyro fi nishing makes OTX shockproof. OTX gioca un ruolo chiave nel processo di deumidifi cazione. L innovativa geometria interna risolve il problema dei fl ussi di caduta del materiale, permettendo di gestire in modo più effi cace il processo di deumidifi cazione, controllandolo all interno della tramoggia. 27 UREKA PET SYSTEMS This technology allows to transform a series of individual plants in a single large centralized system. The system will be developed in the same area without modifying the logistics. The hoppers will be replaced by the innovative OTX hoppers which play an active part in the drying process thanks to their exclusive internal geometry. The OTX hoppers together with the FLOWMATIK device and the X MAX dryers guarantee a perfect treatment of raw material and a reduction of 40% in terms of drying time and energy consumption. MOWIS supervisor will be able to simplify the management of the system by concentrating all the process information in a single control point. 29 MM Moisture Meter Rilevatore di Umidità MM - Moisture Meter is an instrument for the immediate measurement of the moisture. It is very useful when installed in the use zone of the granules, particularly in the PET transformation process. Thanks to the MM it is possible to make an on-line control of the final moisture value of the granules up to 10 ppm. By connecting the dehumidification system with the MM, we can realize a closed loop control aimed to manage the dryer depending on the final moisture. Moisture Meter completes Eureka project by making it the only system able to certify final product qualità and guarantee maximum efficiency in terms of energy consumption. MM - Moisture Meter è uno strumento misuratore di umidità istantaneo. Ottimale per l istallazione nel punto di utilizzo del granulo, in particolare nella trasformazione del PET. Grazie all MM è possibile controllare online il valore di umidità finale nel granulo fino a 10 ppm. 31 PET SYSTEMS Volumetric Dosing Unit for High Temperature Dosatore Volumetrico per Alte Temperature While great attention is paid to polymers, it is very often forgotten that masterbatch can have a high percentage of humidity. DVM H is a volumetric screw doser unique in its type and designed for high temperatures, for dosing of additives or masterbatch in granules. It can be combined with DRY AIR dryer for the treatment of dehumidified master up to 10 C. The dosing body is installed on a vertical support, like an ordinary doser, and it is thermally insulated in order to limit heat dispersion. Molta attenzione viene dedicata ai polimeri, ma troppo spesso non si considera che il masterbach può contenere umidità in percentuali considerevoli. DVM H è un dosatore volumetrico a vite pensato per alte temperature unico nella sua specie per il dosaggio di additivi o masterbatch in granulo. È abbinabile all esclusivo deumidificatore X DRY AIR per il trattamento del master deumidificato fino a 180 C. Moretto produces specific automations for this type of application. A wide range of crystallizers is available for all the needs, up to 1500 kg/h: - for amorphous granules - for flakes from preforms - for scales from bottles. Regrind PET from preform. 35 GR ECO - GRT Grinders Granulatori These grinders are ideal for use in waste recovery departments, they are provided with large grinding capacity and built to withstand heavy-duty applications. Available also in the ECO integral sound-proofing version equipped with three and five blade rotors with scissor-effect cut as a standard feature. These machines are dedicated to the recovery of wastes from blow molding: sprues, blown pieces, high temperature inline parisons, preforms grinding and offline blown pieces. They are suitable to treat molded wastes or voluminous and light thermoformed pieces and also already triturated wastes. Granulatori adatti all impiego nei reparti di recupero scarti, costruiti per sopportare impieghi gravosi con una generosa capacità di macinazione. Sono disponibili anche nella versione ECO integralmente insonorizzata e dotata di rotori con taglio a forbice a tre e cinque lame. Macchine dedicate al recupero di scarti di soffiaggio: materozze, pezzi soffiati, parison in linea ad alte temperature, macinazione di preforme e soffiati fuori linea. The process is controlled by sensors that through the PLC manage every work phase. 39 OKTOPET Octabins Unloader Svuota Octabin Safety No maintenance One power Sicurezza Nessuna manutenzione Funzionamento One power Device for the treatment of octabins including preforms for the feeding in the blow molding process. It has been designed to manage automatically octabins and gaylords with different weights and dimensions. The preforms are stored in octabins to be put in the warehouse waiting for the blow molding process. Then the octabins are moved close to the blow molding machine for the last phase of the process. OKTOPET has been designed for the octabins discharge on the buffer of the blow molding machine. Oktopet makes this operation in safety, automatically and using only electric energy. Dispositivo per il trattamento degli octabins contenenti preforme per l alimentazione del processo di soffiaggio. Progettato per gestire octabin e gaylord di peso e formato differenti e in modo completamente in automatico. Le preforme vengono stoccate in octabins per essere riposte in magazzino in attesa del soffiaggio. Gli octabins vengono quindi portati vicino alla soffiatrice per l ultima fase di produzione. OKTOPET è stato progettato per lo svuotamento dell octabin sul buffer della soffiatrice. Operazione questa che Oktopet svolge in sicurezza, completamente in automatico e con l impiego di sola energia elettrica. 39

41 MOWIS 2 Supervising System Sisitema di Supervisione MOWIS is the integrated supervising system by Moretto. Completely developed by the Development Department, it is based on the MODULARITY. MOWIS requires a PC with an operative system such as Windows. The basic licenses are structured in order to extend the system from a minimum of clients to the complete saturation, according to the requirement of the user. Also the investment will be defined according to the real necessities. EACH MODULE IS INCLUDED IN THE SYSTEM! MOWIS è il sistema di supervisione integrato della Moretto. Scritto interamente in Dipartimento Sviluppo è impostato sulla MODULARITÀ. MOWIS richiede un PC con sistema operativo Windows.
