Heads Showcase is open to anyone who wants to contribute or submit their projects or portfolios. The images in front of us are both bright and dark in terms of implication, meaning and objective. I think that today there are essentially two types of photography, one about the things it contains while the other contains things referring to events that, to use a wonderful cinematographic expression by Howard Hawks, do not belong to a specific spacetime continuum. Colliders, created in those sanctuaries of science where you search for the origins of the cosmos or the principle of matter, plays a double game by also asking us the meaning of representing things in an era of perfect proof. Photographs that get us to ask complex questions and acquire strong doubts rather that return to us an illusive, simplified image of reality. Thank goodness. Ci troviamo di fronte a immagini tanto chiare formalmente quanto oscure per implicazioni, significati, destinazioni. Credo che in generale oggi esistano due forme della fotografia, una parla delle cose in esse contenute, l altra contiene cose che rimandano ad eventi che, per usare una bella espressione cinematografica di Howard Hawks, non appartengono ad una precisa unità spazio-temporale. Colliders, realizzato in quei santuari della scienza dove si indagano le origini del cosmo o il principio della materia, opera un doppio lavoro, interrogandoci anche sul senso della rappresentazione delle cose nell era della evidenza perfetta. Fotografie che ci educano a porre domande complesse e a porci solidi dubbi anziché restituirci una illusoria immagine semplificata della realtà. Per fortuna.

Machinery built with precision to the millionth of a millimetre, tunnels of tens of kilometres, neutrons shot from under the Alps in Geneva and found in Italy, infinitely massive structures built to study the infinitely small. Ho deciso di intraprendere un lavoro di documentazione di una particolare categoria di manufatti che dimostrano più chiaramente l estrema abilità scientifica e tecnica umana: gli acceleratori di particelle e i centri di fisica delle alte energie. Macchinari giganteschi costruiti con precisione al millesimo di millimetro, tunnel di decine di chilometri per studiare l infinitamente piccolo, neutrini sparati da Ginevra al di sotto delle Alpi e rilevati in Italia. Luca Casonato thanks: Francesco Jodice. Artist Luca Casonato (1977) specialized in photography after earning a degree in construction engineering. In 2010 he won second place in the Sony World Photography Awards and was invited to take part in the Le Cose e il Paesaggio competition organized by the Sistema Musei di Valle Camonica. In 2008 he participated in the Voice Off section of the Krakow Photographic Biennial and was invited to take part in the European photography competition The Core of Industry. In 2007 he was one of the finalists of the photographic competition atlante italiano 007 rischio paesaggio and had an exhibition at MAXXI in Rome. In 2006 he was one of the finalists of the Premio Arti Visive San Fedele. In 2005 he received a notable mention at Netshot, a photography and web contest organized by the Contemporary Photography Museum of Cinisello Balsamo. Luca Casonato (1977) dopo la laurea in ingegneria edile si specializza in fotografia. Nel 2010 è secondo classificato al Sony World Photography Awards. È invitato a partecipare al premio Le Cose e il Paesaggio istituito dal Sistema Musei di Valle Camonica. Nel 2008 partecipa alla Biennale Fotografica di Cracovia nella sezione Voice Off. È invitato a partecipare al concorso europeo di fotografia The Core of Industry. Nel 2007 è fra i finalisti al premio fotografico atlante italiano 007 rischio paesaggio ed espone al MAXXI, Roma. Nel 2006 è fra i finalisti al Premio Arti Visive San Fedele. Nel 2005 riceve una menzione a Netshot, premio di fotografia e web organizzato dal Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea di Cinisello Balsamo.
