Most Italian adjectives end in o in the masculine singular. The feminine singular is regularly formed by changing the -o to a. 2. Adjectives ending in e in the masculine singular have the SAME form in the feminine singular. 3. The plural of adjective is formed in the same manner as the plural of nouns. 4. The masculine plural of o adjectives is done by changing o to i. 5. The feminine plural of o adjectives is done by changing o to e.
4 6. The masculine and feminine plural of e adjectives is regularly formed by changing the e to i. 7. Adjectives ending in co in the masc. singular generally change c to ch in the plural (in order to retain the hard c sound). (bianco/bianca/bianchi/bianche WHITE) (ricco/ricca/ricchi/ricche RICH) However, adjectives ending in co in the masc. singular that are stressed on the THIRD syllable from the end change co to ci in the masc plural (with a resulting change to the soft c) In the feminine plural, these adjectives change c to ch) (resulting in the hard c) (pubblico/pubblica/pubblici/pubbliche - PUBLIC) (magnifico/magnifica/magnifici/magnifiche MAGNIFICENT) 8. Adjectives ending in go in the masculine singular regularly hange the g to gh in the plural (in order to retain the hard g sound) (lungo/lunga/lunghi/lunghe LONG) (largo/larga/larghi/larghe WIDE) 9. Adjectives of nationality are NOT usually capitalized in Italian. COMPLETE the sentences in each group, using the words indicated.
