Proposals will be assessed based on their relevance visà-vis the above research domains. Mezzetti 1 3 Da Giugno Studente PROEFCENTRUM HOOGSTRATEN (RESEARCH CENTRE HOOGSTRATEN) MEERLE BELGIO The Research Centre Hoogstraten is specialized in the cultivation in glasshouses (strawberries, tomatoes, peppers) and the strawberry cultivation in open air (in soil and on tabletops). Applied and demonstrative research in these cultures delivers information and answers to questions risen at professional horticultural companies and growers. In collaboration with other research institutions different programs can be initiated to solve more fundamental problems in the above mentioned cultures. The transfer of trial results towards the growers and other scientific groups is an important challenge for the Research Centre. For internships, students can help in the applied research of strawberries and strawberry cultivation in general. We are running more than 100 trials a year in different cultivation systems over different topics like varieties, cultivation techniques, cultivation systems and technologies, pest and disease management, fertilization, energy, water use, etc. Interest in horticulture is necessary and some basic knowledge of (strawberry) plants is recommended. 5 SUNSEED DESERT TECHNOLOGY ALMERIA SPAGNA The Sunseed Desert Project, a hands-on practical centre for low-impact living and environmental education in Andalucia. At this lively international community, staff and volunteers work and learn together to develop, demonstrate, research and communicate alternative ways of having less impact and a smaller environmental footprint.
