Forma passiva Forma passiva (Passive form) - Monet painted this picture. = Monet dipinse questo quadro. - This picture was painted by Monet. = Questo quadro fu dipinto da Monet. Come si può notare, l oggetto della prima frase, nella forma passiva, diventa soggetto nella seconda. La forma passiva si forma con: i diversi tempi di TO BE + PARTICIPIO PASSATO del verbo principale

Forma passiva Se chi compie l azione è indicato, esso è espresso con «by»: - Romeo and Juliet was written by Shakespeare. = Romeo e Giulietta è stato scritto da Shakespeare. - Was Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare? = Romeo e Giulietta fu scritto da Shakespeare? Non è necessario indicare il complemento d agente quando vi è un pronome personale o indefinito. - My car has been stolen by someone. = La mia macchia è stata rubata da qualcuno. Nella trasformazione da frase attiva a passiva, il verbo to be rimane nello stesso tempo della frase attiva: - Lisa reads a book. = Lisa legge un libro. - A book is read by Lisa. = Un libro è letto da Lisa.
Forma passiva La forma passiva viene usata: a) Quando è più importante descrivere l azione che sapere chi la compie. - Penicillin was discovered in 1932. = La penicillina è stata scoperta nel 1932. b) Quando non si sa di preciso chi ha compiuto l azione. - The house was built last year. = La casa fu costruita l anno scorso. c) Per tradurre la forma impersonale italiana di «si» (si parla, si vendono ). - English is spoken everywhere. = L inglese è parlato dappertutto. - It is said that. = si dice che. d) In avvisi, descrizioni scientifiche ed articoli di giornale. - Passengers are kindly requested not to smoke. = I passeggeri sono invitati a non fumare.
Traduzione di ancora Traduzione di «ancora» L italiano «ancora» si rende in inglese in diversi modi a seconda del significato che assume ogni volta. a) STILL = tuttora - She s still in bed. = Lei è ancora a letto. - It s still raining. = Sta ancora piovendo. b) AGAIN = di nuovo, un altra volta - Say it again! = Dillo di nuovo! - He phoned me again = Mi ha chiamato di nuovo. c) MORE = altro, in più (solitamente dopo un indefinito o numerale) - Do you want some more bread? = Vuoi altro pane? d) NOT YET = non.ancora (in frasi negative) - I haven t read it yet. = Non l ho ancora letto.
Traduzione di come Traduzione di «come» (How/like/as) HOW = come, che, quanto. a) How + aggettivo o avverbio, usato nelle esclamative. - How well you write! = Come scrivi bene! - How strange it is! = Che strano! b) How (come, in che modo) + verbo, usato nelle interrogative dirette e indirette - How do you write this? = Come lo scrivi questo? - Can you tell me how to write this word? = Puoi dirmi come scrivere questa parola?
Traduzione di come LIKE = preposizione (come, simile a, nello stesso modo) + sostantivo o pronome, indica somiglianza/paragone. - I need a car like yours. = Voglio una macchina come la tua. - Men like you are no longer to be found. = Uomini come te non si trovano più. AS = [preposizione] (come, in qualità di) + sostantivo. - As a friend, you should help him. = Come amico dovresti aiutarlo. - He s speaking as a lawyer. = Parla in qualità di avvocato. AS = [congiunzione] (come, nel modo in cui) + soggetto+ verbo è usato in frasi dipendenti. - It was, as Lisa said, complete chaos. = E stato, come ha detto Lisa, un vero caos. - As you know, we re staying at home tonight. = Come sai, staremo a casa stasera.

Uso di enough Uso di enough «Enough» (abbastanza) segue gli aggettivi e gli avverbi ma precede il nome. - This coffee isn t sweet enough. = Questo caffè non è abbastanza dolce. - That room isn t big enough. = Quella cucina non è abbastanza grande. - Have we got enough sandwiches for the picnic? = Abbiamo abbastanza panini per il picnic? - Yes, there s enough petrol in the car. = Sì, c è abbastanza benzina in macchina.
Uso di one/ones Uso di one/ones ONE = uno (numerale) viene spesso usato come pronome per non ripetere il nome già indicato in precedenza. Esempi: - I need a pen, have you got one? = Ho bisogno di una penna, ne hai una? - These cakes are delicious, would you like one? = Questi dolci sono deliziosi, ne vuoi uno? THIS ONE/THAT ONE = questo/quello. A: Which book is yours? = Qual è il tuo libro? B: This one. = Questo. THE ONE = quello - I don t like the red jacket, I prefer the black one. = Non mi piace la giacca rossa, preferisco quella nera.
Uso di one/ones THE ONES = quelli. A: Which glasses are yours? = Quali sono i tuoi occhiali? B: The ones on the table. = Quelli sul tavolo.
