Vi diamo il benvenuto alla terza edizione di Refr@ctive.on-line. Come nelle precedenti edizioni, nel Corso di quest anno saranno presenti sia le usuali parti teorico-scientifica, clinica, e di risultati della chirurgia refrattiva, che una speciale sessione dedicata a fornire quei concetti di base utili a chi si sta muovendo da poco nel mondo della chirurgia refrattiva. Saranno inoltre disponibili dei wet-lab a ciclo continuo, per veder realizzate nella pratica le informazioni presentate. La componente teorica del Corso è stata quest anno arricchita di sessioni dedicate alla biomeccanica della cornea, ai processi di guarigione dopo chirurgia refrattiva ed all esame anatomico mediante microscopia confocale. Queste sessioni consentono di approfondire dinamiche spesso poco note ma che stanno alla base dei risultati della chirurgia refrattiva e che possono, una volta note, venire opportunamente modulate per migliorare la strategia chirurgica. Come nelle precedenti edizioni, è stato riservato uno spazio significativo alle più moderne indagini strumentali nel campo della chirurgia refrattiva con laser a eccimeri, l aberrometria e la topografia. Queste tecniche sono in grado di guidare l azione dei laser, ed il loro utilizzo consente di apprendere, sviluppare e applicare soluzioni chirurgiche in grado di correggere i comuni difetti di vista insieme alle aberrazioni ottiche, insite in ogni individuo, che riducono la qualità visiva. L obiettivo è di fare in modo che il medico Oculista non si accontenti della correzione dei difetti di refrazione, ma possa spingersi fino all incremento dell acutezza visiva massima potenziale con l eliminazione di tutte le aberrazioni ottiche. L esperienza clinica Italiana e Internazionale verrà sviluppata in sessioni dedicate alle tecniche di chirurgia refrattiva, siano consolidate o di avanguardia. La Custom Ablation verrà sviluppata in una sessione particolare, con esame dei diversi sistemi disponibili e dei risultati ottenuti. Infine, l esperienza acquisita con i diversi tipi di IOL refrattive disponibili troverà spazio in una sessione speciale. Il Corso sarà tenuto da un consesso di Medici Oculisti, Ingegneri e studiosi della fisiologia e dell aberrometria umana. I relatori invitati, provenienti da tutto il mondo, sono tra i più noti sviluppatori ed applicatori sia delle tecnologie che delle metodiche chirurgiche. In maniera identica alle precedenti edizioni verrà creato uno speciale CD ROM con l intero contenuto del corso, generando quindi uno strumento didattico permanente e completo. Questo CD ROM, assieme a quelli delle due precedenti edizioni, sarà disponibile per consultazione in un sito web dedicato. I CD ROM delle prime due edizioni del Corso hanno consentito, grazie alla capillare diffusione ottenuta con il supporto della Società Oftalmologica Italiana, del Journal of Refractive Surgery, e di Ocular Surgery News, di trasmettere ad un ampio numero di Oculisti le teorie e i risultati presentati, oltre che a fornire un comodo e completo strumento di aggiornamento e consultazione. Questa strada verrà percorsa anche con il CD ROM di Refr@ctive.on-line 2002. E previsto infine un particolare modello di verifica dell apprendimento mediante quiz a risposta multipla. Arrivederci alla quarta edizione di Refr@ctive.on-line!! Welcome to the third edition of Refr@ctive.on-line. Similarly to the previous years, the 2002 edition of Refr@ctive.on-line will feature a theoretical and scientific part, as well as one dedicated to clinical applications and results of refractive surgery. This year we added a session dedicated to the illustration of basic concepts in refractive surgery, aimed to clinicians approaching refractive surgery. Wet-labs, with non-stop schedule, will also be available, to provide immediate, practical application to the theoretical information provided in the Course. The theoretical part of the Course will include the following sessions: corneal biomechanics, wound healing after refractive surgery, and confocal microscopy. These sessions will examine in detail some dynamic factors, often scarcely considered but of great importance in refractive surgery, that can be advantageously modulated to improve surgical strategies. A significant space is dedicated to the most recent diagnostic tools in refractive surgery with excimer lasers, aberrometry and topography. These techniques may guide surgery with excimer lasers, and their use provides an invaluable tool for understanding, developing, and applying surgical solutions for the correction of common refractive defects as well as of the optical aberrations of the human optical system hampering optimal visual quality. Therefore, Ophthalmologists will not be limited to simple refractive defect correction anymore, but will be able to pursue the maximal possible visual acuity through the elimination of all optical aberrations. Italian and International clinical and surgical experiences will be considered in special sessions dedicated to refractive surgery techniques, both well-known or innovative. The Custom Ablation approach will be developed in a dedicated session, with the demonstration and discussion of different available systems and results. The state-of-the-art in phakic IOLs also features a session. The Course will be administered by Ophthalmologists, Engineers and experts in human physiology and aberrometry. The panel includes experts from all over the world, well known for development and application both of technologies and surgical techniques. Similarly to the past editions, a special CD ROM, with complete Course contents, will be published and made available as a permanent and complete didactic tool. This CD ROM, together with those of the two previous editions, will be available for consultation on a dedicated web site. The CD ROM of the first two editions have been widely diffused all over the world, thanks to the support of the Italian Ophthalmological Society, of the Journal of Refractive Surgery, and of Ocular Surgery News, providing the theories and results presented during the Course to a wide number of Ophthalmologists, as a useful and complete instrument for update and reference. These diffusion criteria will be maintained also for the CD ROM of Refr@ctive.on-line 2002. A special multiple-choice test will be administered to verify and reinforce the didactic aim of the Course.
