1 CHOIR WORKSHOP FOR COMPOSERS 3rd edition The Association VirgoVox INVITES composers from all nationalities, without age limits and without limitations on aesthetic orientations and compositional styles to the COMPOSITION OF CHORAL SONGS FOR FEMALE ENSEMBLE The main purpose of the Workshop is to encourage creativity in the music field and the composition of new songs, especially for female groups The pieces must: be unpublished and composed for female ensemble (i.e. choral groups consisting of between 5 and 10 members) preferably be a cappella (however, songs with accompaniment of a small instrumental group will also be evaluated) have a maximum subdivision of 8 voices have a duration between 2 and 10 minutes In case of texts in languages different from Italian, French, English, Spanish, Latin, it is necessary to send also a phonetic transcription of the text. PROPOSED THEMES FOR THE COMPOSITION The themes required for this third edition are: Notturno Divine and human Mother Passion Time A text to be chosen among the proposed texts (see list at the bottom of the announcement). It is possible to score either the complete text or part of it. Open themes can be interpreted freely as regards the choice of both texts and genre (sacred or profane). Each composer will be allowed to present a maximum of two pieces. The songs that do not meet the theme requirements will be excluded from the competition. NECESSARY DATA The music sheet (to be submitted in pdf format) must contain the title of the piece and the name of the author of the verbal text and/or its source. The composer's name must NOT appear in the music sheet. The songs will be presented to the commission anonymously. The composer must attach: a form with personal data, the theme chosen among those proposed for the composition, and telephone number a short text illustrating the composition and the methods of execution possible midi file of the composition The songs must be submitted to bando.virgovox@gmail.com by 30 June 2019.

2 COMMISSION This year the jury will be composed by: Gabriele Manca Composer, professor at the Conservatory of Milan Luca Scaccabarozzi Director of choir, Pianist, Singer Victor Andrini Opera singer, Composer A Representative of the publishing house that will publish the songs Giuditta Comerci, Artistic Director of the Noema Association Isabella Di Pietro, President of the VirgoVox Association, Spokesperson for the single vote of the ensemble. The commission will evaluate the pieces and will choose up to a maximum of five finalists according to the following parameters: Voice implication (extensions, executability) Conducting of the parts Music-text relationship General artistic evaluation. The composers of the 5 finalist pieces will be notified by by 10th July 2019 and will be called for a meeting with the commission to be held on 18th July The meeting will provide an opportunity for sharing opinions and receiving feedback from the jury. The competition will be won by a maximum of three compositions. The official notification of the selected pieces will appear on the website. Some pieces may be included in the repertoire of the ensemble at the discretion of the artistic director. The composers of the selected pieces will have the opportunity to attend an open rehearsal during which they may listen to their own piece and possibly record it. The rehearsal will be proposed within three months after the selection of the pieces. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The selected songs will receive the following acknowledgements: publication of the piece in the Virgo Vox Contemporanea series; first performance by the Ensemble Virgo Vox in the Noema Association concert season (October June 2020) The 3rd edition of the Call for Composition 2019 obtained the patronage of the Noema Association

Piove dalle nuvole sparse. Piove su le tamerici salmastre ed arse, piove su i pini scagliosi ed irti, piove su i mirti divini, su le ginestre fulgenti di fiori accolti, su i ginepri folti di coccole aulenti, piove su i nostri vólti silvani, piove su le nostre mani ignude, su i nostri vestimenti leggieri, su i freschi pensieri che l anima schiude novella, su la favola bella che ieri t illuse, che oggi m illude, o Ermione.
