Vintage New horizons for Vintage pistons La gaa vintage cresce ogni anno con l aggiunta di modelli storici per coprire il più possibile la gaa delle tradizionali Vespa e Lambretta, all origine della produzione di Meteor (dagli anni di fondazione, inizio degli anni 50). Vintage pistons increase every year with new models in order to cover the complete range of the historical Vespa and Lambretta as much as possible. Back to Meteor s origins, since the Fifties. Dal 05 la sezione Vintage avrà un taglio diverso e più ampio, dato l interesse verso moto storiche di altre marche e modelli, che hanno estimatori in tutto il mondo. From 05 the Vintage section will have a wider perspective, thanks to an increasing interest towards historical motorcycles belonging to different brands, with many fans around the world. Demand for quality spare parts for this kind of engines (also for racing models) is actually increasing. To start with, a new piston (MP ref. 338) has just been introduced in this catalogue: the Yamaha TZ , a great engine, winner of the GP 350 between the 970s and 980s. An engine which still todays has many amateurs and fan clubs.

Production of pistons and rings for Gardening & Forestry engines has been one of core-businesses of Meteor Piston and the sister company Caber s.r.l. since many years. Rings by Caber, installed on pistons by Meteor, are high quality products with an aurate designed to get the best behavior into professional chainsaws and brushcutters engines. L Class 0 Subclass 4 F4 IKA F NEWS 05 No Phosphating / No Fosfatazione I segmenti Caber per motoseghe e motori Garden non presentano alcun trattamento superficiale, in particolare la fosfatazione al Manganese (che rende il segmento di colore NERO). In egual misura tutti i costruttori UE non hanno mai adottato alcun trattamento grazie alla qualità delle ghise e ai carichi calcolati che offrono ottime prestazioni senza necessità di ulteriori processi. I materiali utilizzati da Caber garantiscono un buon funzionamento del segmento già a partire dall installazione anche in fase di rodaggio del motore, senza che sia necessario nessun trattamento. Nonostante questo, negli ultimi anni, si è visto un aumento dei segmenti neri sui pistoni per motoseghe, compresi gli originali OEM. La tendenza al segmento fosfatato è iniziata con la globalizzazione delle subforniture e l out-sourcing degli stessi costruttori europei verso i prodotti low cost dei paesi del Far East, sia per i componenti di primo montaggio che per l aftermarket. Caber rings show NO outside treatments on rings for Gardening & Forestry engines, in particular the Mg Phosphating (which gives the rings a BLACK colour).the same has always been for all other UE producers, thanks to the good quality of cast iron materials and to the well calculated tangential loads providing excellent performance with no need of further treatments. Material used by Caber guarantee perfect functioning iediately after installation, at engine running-in. Nevertheless, in the last years, phosphate (black) rings for chainsaws have increased throughout the markets, including in OEM kits. This is probably due to the off-shoring supply chain that in this globalization era involves Far East low cost suppliers. Phosphating on rings may be a solution for non hightech products and for producers which have not still developed the special cast iron materials we already use in UE countries.

11 NEWS 05 Production technology: single cast blanks and double oval turning Tecnologia di produzione: fusioni singole e doppia tornitura ovale In aggiunta, in questi paesi è ancora diffuso il vehio metodo produttivo e molti fabbricanti fanno ricorso a rondelle in ghise sferoidali e standard generate da taglio del tubo e non dalla fusione singola, secondo la tecnologia più avanzata. Il processo della fusione singola è all origine della materia prima utilizzata in Europa da Caber e dai principali costruttori di segmenti europei. Le fasce prodotte da fusioni singole dimostrano di avere migliori proprietà, caratteristiche meaniche e dimensionali più stabili rispetto ai segmenti generati da tubo. Caber produce da sempre segmenti presso lo stabilimento di Rivoli, Torino, partendo da questa tecnologia di fusione, il cui materiale deriva dalle principali fonderie UE di primo livello (Top Level Quality) e lavora i propri prodotti utilizzando la doppia tornitura ovale, con mahinari speciali dedicati esclusivamente a questo scopo. Su pistoni Gardening & Forestry Meteor utilizza soltanto segmenti Caber Another reason for the rings phosphating could be the different way of production for these rings. Low cost countries are still manufacturing with the old method of the tubes splitting. Rings are generated by cast iron tubes cutting. Phosphating may help to adjust rings defects originated from the splitting. Caber and UE most important producers, on the other hand, manufacture rings aording to the latest technology: single cast blanks machined in double oval turning. Caber rings are machined in our premises in Italy (Rivoli-Turin) and come from single blanks cast from Top Level Quality UE foundries. Gardening & Forestry Pistons by Meteor use only Caber rings. Smooth edges / Smussi esterni I segmenti Caber inoltre si contraddistinguono per un ulteriore particolare di lavorazione: la smussatura degli spigoli esterni (definita dalla lettera H nel finale della tipologia dell articolo). La forma smussata era molto utilizzata nel primo montaggio (OEM) dai costruttori di motoseghe italiani, a differenza dei costruttori stranieri (principalmente Tedeschi) che prediligevano i segmenti con spigoli vivi. Il segmento smussato risulta essere maggiormente d aiuto in cilindri già usati o laddove non siano stati realizzati perfettamente le luci e i travasi. La smussatura infatti favorisce lo scorrimento dei segmenti in uscita e in entrata dalle luci presenti nella canna del cilindro. Tale facilità di scorrimento contribuisce anche ad una diminuzione della rumorosità (provocata dal battito del segmento sul bordo delle luci). Rings by Caber can be recognized by a particular machining details: smooth edges (or chamfers) defined by the final letter H in the ring type code. Chamfers on outside edges were a typical aspect on rings installed on OEM pistons of Italian Chainsaws manufacturers. German producers, on the other hand, preferred rings with sharp edges. Chamfered rings seem to be preferable in used cylinders or in cylinders with not perfectly machined transferts. Chamfers allow better sliding and reduce noise provoked from the ring s hurting on cylinder transfert s edge.

La garanzia dell autenticità del nostro segmento sarà fornita dalla marcatura del marchio Caber su tutte le tipologie di articoli sempre per motori Gardening & Forestry. Dalle nuove produzioni già in corso tutti i pistoni Meteor Gardening & Forestry e i segmenti venduti a parte saranno esclusivamente marcati con il logo Caber (come riportato nella foto qui sotto). Tale operazione ha naturalmente un costo aggiuntivo che non ricadrà sui clienti ma verrà interamente assorbito dalla Caber. Following the increasing counterfaction of Caber and Meteor brands on the market, we want to guarantee our customers our genuine products. Original Caber rings for all Gardening & Forestry applications will be identified, from now on, from the Caber logo marked by laser on the top ring s face (as shown in the below picture). The logo will be present from the new processing and all pistons by Meteor will carry the rings marked Caber. The same will be for rings sold separately (in rolls). The marking operation has of course an additional cost which will not affect the ring price. It will be all on Caber s aount in order not to harm our Customers distribution nets.

PISTON AVAILABLE FROM BEGINNING OF OCTOBER 04. TELL ALL THE FANS! Incredibile Yamaha TZ350: la gaa Vintage si espande! Il bi-cilindrico Yamaha TZ350, lanciato nel 973, trasformò la classe 350 GP di allora. Il raffreddamento ad acqua più qualche lieve miglioramento rispetto ai predecessori (TR, TRB e TR3 raffreddati ad aria), diede incredibile forza a questa moto che fu definita un arma imbattibile nelle mani del giusto pilota. Internamente la moto non cambiava molto dal TR3 eetto le ampiezze e le inclinazioni dei travasi, variati per migliorare il degassaggio. Il cilindro aveva una percentuale si Silicio inferiore rispetto al TR3. La produzione della moto iniziò nel 973 con il modello A(60 ed ebbe fine nel 98 con il modello H (7 in coincindenza con il termine delle gare della classe 350 GP. Questa moto ancora oggi ha estimatori in tutto il mondo con fanclubs e siti web dedicati, segno del grande impatto che lasciò nella storia delle moto da corsa. Su richiesta crescente del mercato, Meteor Piston ha sviluppato per la sezione Vintage (moto storiche) il pistone per YAMAHA TZ Rif. 338 Ø 57. Il pistone realizzato da METEOR, confrontato con l originale, presenta miglioramenti dal punto di vista tecnico:. Segmenti in aiaio per canna con riporto Nikasil. (Per canne cromate il segmento non dovrà essere cromato).. Pistone leggero (soprattutto sullo spessore della testa) ma con struttura resistente alle sollecitazioni meaniche. 3. Mozzo ben dimensionato e resistente alle rotture. The incredible Yamaha TZ350: vintage pistons expand! The two-cylinder Yamaha TZ350, launched in 973, transformed the 350 GP series at that time. The water cooling and some slight improvements over the air-cooled predecessors (TR, TRB and TR3), gave an incredible power to this bike which was defined an unbeatable weapon in the hands of the right rider. Internally the motor hadn t changed much from the TR3 apart from the widths and angles of the transfers being altered to improve scavenging, though actual port timing remained as it was with the older model. Also the silicon content of the cylinder was lower compared to that of the TR3 s separate hypereutectic units. Production of the bike started in 973 with Model A (60 and ended 98 with Model H (7 when the GP series came to an end. This motorcycle today still has dedicated websites and many fans providing the great impression it has left in the twowheelers racing history. Upon an increasing market demand, Meteor Piston has developed the piston for the Yamaha TZ Ref. 338 Ø 57 for the Vintage section.
