PREREQUISITI RICHIESTI No Conoscenze storiche e geografiche di base del Nord Africa e del Medio Oriente, nonchè elementi introduttivi sull'islam necessari a inquadrare i processi esaminati. Il corso ripercorre le principali tappe della storia del Medio Oriente e del Nord Africa dall'invasione francese dell'egitto (1798) alla fine del XX secolo. Gli sviluppi a livello locale e regionale saranno messi in relazione ai processi globali e i principali temi trattati saranno la "modernizzazione difensiva", l'imperialismo, le lotte di liberazione nazionale, la costruzione dello Stato-nazione e i conflitti contemporanei. Particolare attenzione sarà rivolta alle ideologie politiche come modernismo, panarabismo, islamismo, socialismo.
