Cellar for aging wines Vasari: 400 years of history The family Vasari is engaged since 1628 in the production of quality wines on the hills above the Valley of river Mela in the municipalities of Santa Lucia del Mela and Merì in the Province of Messina (Sicily). Respect for tradition and the stimulus for continued innovations are the right balance between a story already written and yet to be written. A journey through time that accompanies the skilful and meticulous work of Ruggero Vasari and young nephew Michele, always looking for an exclusive wine with authentic flavors. The winery Born in an old farmhouse dating back to the first half of 1700, now wine museum and tasting room, the modern winery grows into a new plant which occupies an area of 800 square meters equipped with the latest equipment. During the winemaking process is maintained all the organoleptic properties of grapes through a precise and careful work of research and innovation. In this temple of silence the wines find ideal conditions of ageing in oak barrels of 15 hl and 25 hl and subsequent bottle refining
Terroir The vineyards are planted in soils of medium texture in the most fertile areas of the farm to 250/300 mt. a. s..l. facing West - Northwest on the hills above the valley of the river Mela in the town of Santa Lucia del Mela and Merì. The vines are treated with natural methods - in strict respect of UE protocol for organic farming - and treated with short and wise prunings so as to favor a low yield per vine, guaranteeing a higher qual- ity of the grapes. Attention to the environment with the knowledge of every single vineyard, hand picking and the use of the uvaggio that is the ancient technique of the coexistence in the same vineyard of more varieties of grapes, allow to obtain wines that fully jump the organoleptic properties of the terroir of origin. Mamertino From these soils and the passion, experience and tenacity of Ruggero Vasari is reborn, more than 40 years ago, an unique wine: the Mamertino, one of the oldest wines in the world that traces its ori- gins to over 2000 years in the period of Roman Empire. Ancient nobility the Mamertino, linked to the history of the Terroir from which it was born. Ancient wine of honors, precious and noble towers among the laurels of his old and new story, highlighting the unique characteristics of the most noble varieties of Sicilian grapes: Inzolia, Grillo, Catarratto for whites and Nero d Avola and Nocera to the reds. Nocera The Nocera is an ancient grape varietiy typical of the Messina Province, and more particularly in the area of Santa Lucia del Mela and Milazzo. A vine that has risked extinction but was revalued and reimplanted for the production of the Mamertino wine and later for vinification in purity by obtaining a unique red wine with special features expression of the scents of Sicily. Organic wines Since 1991 the Vasari family has been one of the first in Sicily to embrace the method of organic certified farming applying to all proceedings, from the vineyard to the bottle, under strict control according to the European Community regulations. Every glass of wine transmits the aromas and flavors of the more noble varieties of native Sicilian grapes. Organic wines Vasari are also suitable for vegetarians and vegans because are not used animal substances in winemaking.
