Ecco che con la grande mostra personale del Maestro Pablo Atchugarry si ritorna a celebrare la scultura in marmo e bronzo a Pietrasanta. Snelle e trionfanti svettano infatti le opere dell artista uruguaiano nel salotto della Piazza del Duomo, a cui si accompagnano marmi bianchi e bronzi colorati nella suggestiva cornice della Chiesa di Sant Agostino, mentre si presentano testimonianze delle sue sculture monumentali e di più delicati bozzetti nelle Sale dei Putti e del Capitolo del Chiostro di Sant Agostino. Sola come una polena a sfidare il sole ed il mare c è anche Search of the Future, scintillante scultura in acciaio, che raccoglie e riflette le nuvole nel loro passaggio sopra il Pontile di Marina di Pietrasanta. Una mostra monumentale questa che celebra degnamente un grande artista, che da più di quarant anni lavora nell area apuo-versiliese, smussando con le sue forti mani il marmo bianco e conferendogli così quel suo peculiare linguaggio, che lo identifica internazionalmente. With this magnificent solo exhibition by Maestro Pablo Atchugarry we return to celebrate sculpture in marble and bronze in Pietrasanta. Slender and triumphal, the works by the Uruguayan artist tower above the sitting room of the Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square); they are accompanied by white marble and colored bronzes in the evocative framework of the St. Augustine Church, while monumental sculptures and delicate sketches bear witness in the Hall of the Putti and in the St. Augustine Cloister. Alone like a figurehead challenging the sun and the sea, stands Search of the Future, a sculpture in glistening steel that gathers and reflects the clouds that pass above the jetty of the Pietrasanta Navy. A monumental exhibition that worthily celebrates a great artist, who for more than forty years has worked in the Apua-Versilia area smoothing the edges of the white marble with his strong hands and giving them that peculiar artistic expression with which he is internationally identifiable. Personally, and in the name of the entire Municipal Administration I would like to thank the Maestro Pablo Atchugarry with his wife Silvana and their son Piero, the Contini Gallery of Art and all those who have collaborated with passion and enthusiasm towards the realization of this spectacular summer event, which forms a marvelous bond with Pietrasanta and its artisanal and artistic traditions. Pietrasanta, June 2019 The Mayor Alberto Stefano Giovannetti PABLO ATCHUGARRY: MONUMENTALE COME LA SUA SCULTURA, SOLARE COME LE SUE OPERE PABLO ATCHUGARRY: AS MONUMENTAL AS HIS SCULPTURES, AS SOLAR AS HIS ARTWORK Prima di conoscere Pablo Atchugarry, ho conosciuto l artista e le sue opere. Ricordo di essere rimasto colpito da alcune sue sculture in occasione di Miami Art Basel, per quel calore e quell energia che trasmettevano ad ogni sguardo. Del resto, ogni volta che vedo un opera contemporanea in marmo, mi fermo in ammirazione: è forte in tutti noi, che siamo nati e cresciuti a Pietrasanta, il richiamo della cultura del marmo e del bronzo declinata nella scultura. Al primo contatto, quelle opere dell artista uruguiano mi piacquero, le sentii vicine alla sensibilità creativa del territorio apuo-versiliese, a quella maestria che avevo conosciuto in artisti operanti all interno dei nostri atelier di scultura. Leggendo la sua biografia, compresi. Dagli anni Ottanta iniziano le frequentazioni italiane di Atchugarry, grazie ad una serie di prestigiose commissioni. L approccio con l Italia equivale al suo avvicinarsi al monumentale e al marmo. E così che arriva a Carrara, per cercare quel materiale Before I met Pablo Atchugarry, I met the artist and his works. I remember having been impressed by several of his sculptures during the Miami Art Fair in Basel for the warmth and energy that they transmitted with each glance. On the other hand, whenever I see a Contemporary artwork in marble, I stop in admiration: for those of us born and raised in Pietrasanta, the culture of marble and bronze interpreted through sculpture is strongly felt within us all. I was immediately delighted by the works of the Uruguayan artist, I felt a creative receptiveness in them drawn from the Apuan-Versilian territory, towards that master artistry which I had known from artists working inside our sculpture ateliers. Reading his biography, I began to understand. Since the 1980s Atchugarry began his frequent trips to Italy, thanks to a series of prestigious commissions. His approach with Italy corresponded with his introduction to monumental and to marble. Thus, his arrival in Carrara to find the material capable of donating an unrivaled luminosityto his sculptures.

L artista vive, attualmente, tra Lecco e Manati ales, in Uruguay, dove si occupa della Fondazione che porta il suo nome e del suo parco della scultura. Quando gli ho parlato della possibilità di esporre nell estate 2019 a Pietrasanta, come tutti gli artisti di profonda conoscenza, di grandi capacità e umiltà, ha raccolto l invito con entusiasmo e con un filo di inquietudine: piazza del Duomo è sempre motivo di soddisfazione ma anche di forte apprensione. Eppure Atchugarry non è nuovo a sfide, nel marzo 2012 ha esposto in Times Square e nel luglio dello stesso anno a St. James Square di Londra. Con sincero piacere accolgo, oggi, a Pietrasanta, Pablo Atchugarry, un uomo monumentale come la sua scultura, dal sorriso solare come le sue opere. Sono certo che la mostra The evolution of a dream sarà un nuovo, importante capitolo per la storia espositiva cittadina. Invito tutti a lasciarvi trasportare dal sentimento di queste sculture la cui materia, nelle mani di Atchugarry, si allunga, si dilata, si fa leggera e sinuosa inseguendo la luce. This was followed by an international artistic career with important exhibitions and numerous works in museal, public and private collections world-wide. The artist currently lives between Lecco and Manatiales (Uruguay) where he is involved both with the Foundation that bears his name as well as his sculpture park. When I spoke to him about the possibility of exhibiting in Pietrasanta in the summer of 2019, as all artists with deep knowledge, enormous capabilities and humbleness, he accepted the invitation with enthusiasm but with a hint of uncertainty: the Cathedral Square evokes feelings of pleasure but also of great anxiety. And yet, Atchugarry is not new to challenges having already exhibited in March of 2012 in Times Square and that same year at St. James Square in London. It is with genuine pleasure today that I welcome Pablo Atchugarry to Pietrasanta, a man as monumental as his sculptures, with the same sunny disposition found in his works. I am confident that the exhibition The Evolution of a Dream will be a new important chapter for the history of our city. I would like to invite you all to allow yourselves to be transported by the sentimentalism of these works whose material, in the hands of Atchugarry, extends upwards, expands, becominglightweight and sinuous as it follows the light. 17 THE EVOLUTION OF A DREAM Ettore Mocchetti Il mio primo incontro con Pablo Atchugarry risale agli inizi degli anni Duemila. Vidi le sue opere in una mostra e mi colpirono molto per la loro asciutta plasticità. Geometria ed emozione. Il suo nome non mi era sconosciuto, più volte avevo incontrato suoi lavori su libri e riviste. Ma il contatto diretto è un altra storia, la materia, la tridimensionalità, il tocco della mano sono un tramite insostituibile per sentire l anima, il cuore, l idea dello scultore. Da allora Atchugarry, uruguaiano di Montevideo che vive per metà dell anno proprio a Lecco (l altra metà la trascorre a Manantiales, Uruguay), è entrato nel mio radar personale, ne seguo l opera con attenzione, l ho ammirata nella stupenda retrospettiva inscenata, su suo allestimento, nei Mercati di Traiano a Roma, ove le sculture nivee e astratte dialogavano con le suggestioni storiche ed estetiche dell antichità classica. Del suo creatore ho appreso, almeno per sommi capi, la vita, il padre artista innamorato dell arte come la mamma di origine italiana, le prime esperienze da pittore già in mostra appena undicenne, poi la passione divorante per la scultura interpretata attraverso i più diversi materiali, la scoperta, quasi una fulminazione, del marmo, nella cava del Polvaccio, quella di Michelangelo, che lui stesso ha spiegato così in un intervista: Era il 1979 ed ebbi modo per la prima volta di lavorarlo, fu subito amore, continuando poi: Il marmo è sicuro il materiale che prediligo, nelle sue quattro varianti che amo definire pennellate della natura : lo statuario di Carrara, che è bianco, il marmo rosa, quello grigio e quello nero del Belgio. Ho lavorato anche col bronzo, con l acciaio e col legno. Di fatto tra materiale e artista si instaura una sorta di dialogo: non è solo l artista che sceglie il materiale ma viceversa, è anche il materiale che sceglie l artista, lo indirizza, con la sua bellezza e le sue imperfezioni. Come insegnava Michelangelo, l idea che mi guida nello scolpire è che l opera vada solo fatta uscire dal blocco di materiale che ho davanti. Nei lavori monumentali come nelle sculture a scala domestica, in quelle in marmo ma pure in quelle in legno e in metallo che colora con tinte intense e brillanti, i punti fissi del suo linguaggio sono la reinterpretazione di codici plastici consolidati dal Tempo e da maestri come lo stesso Michelangelo, e poi Brancusi, l espressività della luce modulata e modellata da forme e volumi, l eternità della materia, la verticalità, ovverosia la spinta verso l alto che a tratti s interrompe là dove i vuoti segnalano l addensarsi della materia; e ancora la teoria dei panneggi che, con il loro andamento curvilineo, ammorbidiscono ma non negano lo slancio ascensionale, solo lo volgono anche in abbraccio, lo rendono più umano interponendosi come legante tra terra e cielo, ne esprimono l indispensabile cifra donniaca, la parte femminile, la rotondità della Terra, la donna come fonte di vita e nascita, nella sua capacità di procreare. My first encounter with Pablo Atchugarry dates back to the beginning of the year I had seen his works in an exhibition and was greatly impressed by their sculptural three-dimensionality. Geometry and emotion. His name was not unfamiliar to me having many times seen his work in books and magazines. But having direct contact is another story; the material, the three-dimensionality, the touch of his hand are irreplaceable go-betweens to feel the soul, the heart, the idea of the sculptor. Since then, Atchugarry Uruguayan from Montevideo who lives for half the year precisely in Lecco (the other half he spends in Manantiales in Uruguay), has entered into my personal sphere and I follow his work with attention. I admired it in the splendid Traiano markets in Rome, where the candid and abstract sculptures dialogued with the historical and aesthetic charm of ancient classicism. About its creator I learned, at least briefly, his life, the artist father passionate about art just as the mother of Italian origin, his first experiences as a painter he had already exhibited at only 11 years of age then this devouring love for sculpture interpreted through the most diverse materials and the discovery (nearly fulminating) of marble in the quarries of Polvaccio, those used by Michelangelo. He himself explained in an interview, It was 1979 and for the first time I was able to work with it. I was immediately in love. He continued, Marble is absolutely the material that I prefer in all of its four variants which I love to define as brush strokes of nature the statuary marble of Carrara which is white, pink marble, grey marble and black Belgium marble. I have worked in bronze, steel and with wood. In fact, between the material and the artist a sort of dialogue is established: it is not only the artist that chooses the material but vice-versa it is also the material that chooses the artist and directs him with its beauty and its imperfections. As I learned from Michelangelo, the idea that guides me in sculpting is that the work must exit from that block of stone which is in front of me. In monumental works just as in work on a smaller scale, in marble as well as those in wood and metal that he colors with intensely bright tones, the fixed points of his expressivity are the reinterpretation of sculptural codes which have been consolidated over time by masters such as Michelangelo himself and later Brancusi - the expressivity of light modulated and modeled by form and volume, the infinitude of the material, the verticality, that is the upward thrust which is often interrupted where emptiness marks a thickening of the material; the theory of drapery which, with its curved lines soften the ascension without rejecting it. Wrapped in an embrace, it appears to be more human, placing itself as a bond between earth and the heavens, they express an indispensable femininity - the roundness of the earth, woman as a fountain of life and birth in her ability to procreate. 15

18 16 E tutto ciò l artista ricompone nell astrattezza del segno che, nell immobilità danzante della resa plastica, sembra alludere, nel profondo, al senso e al soffio vitale della Natura. E ancora è Atchugarry a introdurci in questo suo mondo estetico. Come ha raccontato qualche tempo fa in una conversazione: La mia attività di scultore, come per tutti del resto, è iniziata con dei riferimenti figurativi. Andando avanti si sono semplificati: dando veste astratta a quei riferimenti, stilizzandoli in segni significanti ho trovato il modo di far emergere al meglio l essenza della scultura. Le mie opere si sviluppano verso l alto perché si interrogano, come me, sul futuro, sullo spazio, sul tempo in cui si trovano ad esistere. E in quella visione orientata verso l alto non manca di giocare un ruolo, così a me pare, anche l aver scelto, per metà dell anno, di abitare e lavorare a Lecco, sotto gli appicchi dei primi monti lombardi. Ovunque guardi a Lecco trovi la natura: l uomo spesso se ne dimentica così come dimentica di far parte di un ciclo più grande di lui. La vita in una grande città può essere stimolante ma non concede il privilegio di tornare alla natura. Io abito sotto la parete strapiombante del Medale, ogni mattino mi alzo e guardo in su, verso quelle meravigliose montagne che cosa sono se non le più belle sculture? e non c è volta che io non mi senta ispirato da questa visione, così come da quella del lago. Per questo ho deciso di rimanere a Lecco. Quella di Atchugarry, omone dal viso sincero e dallo sguardo generoso, è dunque arte sottile, polisemica, ricchissima di significato, assai complessa nella sua apparente linearità: stimola l immaginazione e la meraviglia di chi la guarda e l ammira il titolo Untitled a cui il Maestro spesso ricorre è per non forzarne l interpretazione, è enigmatica e intuitiva, trasmette sensazioni di Bello e di Bellezza coinvolgenti e al tempo stesso sconvolgenti, perché mettono in crisi il pensiero abitudinario. Tutto ciò si apprezza assai bene nei moti naturalistici che animano le torsioni dei marmi monumentali, e nei bronzi (di taglia più contenuta) colorati con lucenti vernici per automobili che, sotto l egida di Galleria d Arte Contini con Fondazione Versiliana e Start, invadono gioiosamente le strade e le piazze di Pietrasanta e pure le sale del complesso di Sant Agostino. Opere, soprattutto le sculture marmoree, che vivono in piena armonia, esaltandoli nella forma creativa, con il mood e la storia di questa vivace cittadina toscana in cui hanno lavorato e lavorano i sommi scultori di ogni tempo cimentandosi, nelle locali botteghe dal lignaggio antico, con i marmi carrarini cari a Michelangelo e al Canova. Veri capolavori di uno scultore dalla sensibilità e dall immaginazione uniche, oggi da annoverare tra i massimi artisti dell America Latina e non solo. All that the artist recomposes in abstractness and in the dancing immobility of the three-dimensionality, seems to allude in a profound way to the sense and the vital flow of Nature. And once again it is Atchugarry who introduces us to his aesthetic world. As he mentioned time ago in a conversation, My activity as a sculptor, like everything else, began with figurative references. As time passed, they were simplified to give an abstract look to those references, stylizing significant marks that created a way to make the essence of the sculpture emerge. My works point upwards because like me, they ask questions about the future, about space and on the amount of time they will have to exist. The decision to live and work in Lecco for half of the year under the Lombard mountains, plays a fundamental role in that vision which is orientated upwards. Wherever you look in Lecco, you can find nature; man often forgets that he is only part of a much larger cycle. Life in a large city can be stimulating but does not concede the privilege of returning to nature. I live under the overhanging walls of the Medale and every morning I get up and look upwards towards those incredible mountains are they not the most magnificent sculptures? There is not one time that I don t feel inspired by that sight, just as that of the lake. For this reason, I decided to stay in Lecco. The art of Atchugarry - a big guy with a sincere face and an impressive look - is therefore subtle, polysemic and rich with significance, incredibly complex in its apparent linearity: It stimulates the imagination and the marvel of the viewer - the title Untitled is often used by the Master as not to force an interpretation - is enigmatic and intuitive; it transmits sensations of Beautiful and Beauty together while at the same time it disturbs our habitual way of thinking. All of this can be greatly appreciated in the naturalistic movements which animate the torsions of the monumental marbles and bronzes (of smaller dimensions), coloured with bright automobile varnishes. Under the aegis of the Contini Art Gallery along with the Versiliana Foundation and Start they joyfully invade the streets and piazzas of Pietrasanta, including the halls of the St. Augustine Complex. His works, above all the marble sculptures, live in pure harmony; the mood and history of this vivacious Tuscan town - where sculptors from every epoch have tested themselves is exalted in the local bottegas of family lineage and with the Carrara marbles so dear to Michelangelo and Canova. True masterpieces and a sculptor with a unique perceptibility and imagination whom today we can count amongst the most important artists, and not only in Latin America.

169 BIOGRAFIA BIOGRAPHY Pablo Atchugarry è nato a Montevideo, Uruguay, il 23 agosto Fin da piccolo, Pablo è fortemente incoraggiato a cimentarsi nel disegno dalla madre María Cristina Bonomi e dal padre Pedro, grande appassionato d arte e allievo del Maestro Joaquin Torres Garcia. Percependo l attitudine del figlio, i genitori lo stimolano ad intraprendere questo percorso fin dall infanzia. Nel 1965, all età di 11 anni, prende parte ad una mostra collettiva a Montevideo, esponendo per la prima volta due opere pittoriche. Sperimenta poi diversi materiali come l argilla, il cemento, il ferro e il legno e nel 1971 realizza la prima scultura in cemento intitolata Caballo. Seguiranno altri lavori in ferro e cemento quali Escritura Simbólica (1974), Estructura Cósmica (1974), Metamorfosis Prehistórica (1974), Maternidad (1974) e Metamorfosis Femenina (1974). Nel 1972 realizza la prima personale di disegni e dipinti presso il Centro de Exposiciones SUBTE di Montevideo; seguiranno diverse mostre sia nel 1974 (Galería Lirolay di Buenos Aires e XV Salón Internacional Paris Sud) sia nel 1976 (Porto Alegre, San Pablo, Brasilia e Rio de Janeiro - durante la quale conosce l artista Iberê Camargo). Nel 1977 inizia i suoi soggiorni europei visitando diversi Paesi quali Belgio, Danimarca, Francia, Germania, Olanda, Spagna, Svizzera e Italia. Nel 1978 tiene la prima mostra personale di pittura in Italia, presso la Galleria Visconti di Lecco. Lo stesso anno espone anche presso la Galleria Nuova Sfera di Milano e la Galleria La Colonna di Como, dove presenta per la prima volta al pubblico i propri disegni a china e acquarello. In questa occasione, Mario Radice scrive un articolo per il quotidiano comasco La Provincia intitolato Alla Colonna, ottime chine del pittore scultore uruguaiano Atchugarry. Nel 1979 Atchugarry ottiene la prima mostra personale a Parigi, presso la Maison de l Amérique Latine e, successivamente, a Coira e Stoccolma. Durante il suo soggiorno parigino, realizza il disegno preparatorio de La Lumière, la prima scultura che realizza in marmo e per la cui creazione si sposta a Carrara e a Brescia. Nel 1987 le sue opere sono esposte nella Cripta del Bramantino e nel complesso della Basilica di San Nazaro in Brolo a Milano, con la presentazione critica di Raffaelle De Grada. A partire dal 1989, comincia a manifestarsi la tendenza di Atchugarry a lavorare con opere di dimensione monumentale, che attualmente fanno parte di collezioni pubbliche e private in tutto il mondo. Nel 1996 scolpisce l opera Semilla de la esperanza (Seme della Speranza), destinata al parco di scultura del Palacio del Gobierno di Montevideo; mentre nel 1997 espone a Caracas, dove conosce Jesús Soto ed altri artisti. Nel 1998 la Fondazione Veranneman, in Belgio, organizza una mostra personale delle sue opere scultoree, accompagnata da un saggio critico del professor Willem Elias. Il 25 settembre 1999 viene inaugurato il Museo Pablo Atchugarry a Lecco, dove sono esposte in maniera permanente diverse opere che rappresentano il percorso artistico di Atchugarry, dai primi dipinti alle sculture più recenti, così come l archivio della sua produzione. Pablo Atchugarry was born in Montevideo, Uruguay on August 23, At an early age, his parents, María Cristina Bonomi and Pedro Atchugarry, art enthusiasts, discovered their son s aptitude for drawing and they encouraged him to follow this path. He initially expressed himself through drawings and painting, and in 1965 at the age of 11, two of his works were displayed in a collective exhibition in Montevideo. Pablo discovered other materials such as clay, concrete, iron and wood and in 1971 he created his first sculpture in concrete, entitled Caballo (Horse). Other sculptures in concrete and iron would follow dated 1974: Escritura simbólica (Symbolic Writing), Estructuracósmica (Cosmic Structure), Metamorfosis prehistórica (Prehistoric Metamorphosis), Maternidad (Maternity) or Metamorfosis femenina (Feminine Metamorphosis). In 1972, he realized his first solo exhibition of drawings and paintings in the SUBTE Exhibition Center in Montevideo, followed by various exhibitions held in 1974 (Lirolay Gallery in Buenos Aires and the Paris-Sud International Salon) and in 1976 (Porto Alegre, San Pablo, Brasilia and Río de Janeiro where he met the artist Iberê Camargo). In 1977 Atchugarry began his European travels with visits to different countries Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Switzerland and Italy. In 1978 he held his first solo exhibition of paintings in Italy (Visconti Gallery in Lecco); in that same year he held another solo exhibition of paintings at the Nuova Sfera Gallery in Milan and at La Colonna Gallery in Como where for the first time he showed his drawings in ink and watercolor. For the occasion, Mario Radice wrote an article in the daily newspaper, La Provincia, entitled Alla Colonna, ottime chine del pittore scultore uruguaiano Atchugarry (At the Colonna, Excellent Inks by the Uruguayan Painter/Sculptor Atchugarry). In 1979, he celebrated his first solo exhibition in Paris, at the Maison de l Amérique Latine and later he exhibited in Chur and Stockholm. During his stay in Paris, he realized a preparatory drawing for La Lumière (The Light), his first sculpture created in marble and for which he relocated to Carrara and Brescia. In 1987 his works were exhibited in the Bramantino Crypt in the Basilica of San Nazaro (Milan) with a critical presentation by Raffaelle De Grada. In 1989, Atchugarry began to express a tendency towards working with pieces of monumental dimensions, works that still today can be found in public and private collections worldwide. In 1996 he sculpted the work Semilla de la esperanza (Seed of Hope), realized for the Government Palace Sculpture Park in Montevideo. In 1997, he exhibited in Caracas, where he would meet Jesús Soto along with other artists. 170 168 Nel 2001 la città di Milano organizza, nella sede di Palazzo Isimbardi, la retrospettiva dal titolo Le infinite evoluzioni del marmo e nello stesso anno ottiene la prima mostra personale a Londra, presso la Albemarle Gallery dove crea l imponente scultura in marmo di sei metri Obelisco del Terzo Millennio, per la città di Manzano (Udine). Vince anche il concorso nazionale per la realizzazione del Monumento alla Civiltà e Cultura del Lavoro Lecchese, che viene inaugurata a Lecco nel maggio del Anche in questo caso, l opera presentata da Atchugarry è una scultura in marmo di Carrara di sei metri d altezza, realizzata a partire da un unico blocco di 33 tonnellate. In riconoscimento alla sua carriera artistica, nel luglio del 2002 viene insignito del premio Michelangelo, a Carrara. In questo periodo Atchugarry lavora a diversi progetti, tra i quali la scultura Ideales, un omaggio per celebrare il 50 anniversario dell incoronazione del Principe Ranieri di Monaco, attualmente collocata nella Avenue Princesse Grace di Montecarlo. Nel 2003 Atchugarry partecipa alla 50ª Biennale di Venezia con l opera Sognando la Pace, un installazione composta da otto sculture di grandi dimensioni in marmo di Carrara e marmo grigio Bardiglio della Garfagnana. Questo stesso anno espone per la seconda volta presso la Fondazione Veranneman in Belgio e realizza per la Fondazione Fran Daurel a Barcellona l opera intitolata Ascensión. Nel 2004, a distanza di 25 anni dalla sua ultima mostra in Uruguay, la Galleria Tejería Loppacher organizza la sua prima personale di scultura a Punta del Este, seguita da un altra importante rassegna personale delle sue opere tenutasi l anno successivo presso il Museo Nazionale di Belle Arti di Buenos Aires. Il Groeninge Museum di Bruges dedica nel 2006 una grande retrospettiva ad Atchugarry, con opere provenienti da collezioni private di tutto il mondo. Quattro anni più tardi, il museo acquisisce una scultura per la propria collezione, che viene poi esposta in maniera permanente nel parco. Lo stesso anno, la collezione João Berardo in Portogallo acquisisce l opera Camino Vital (1999), una scultura di 483 centimetri di altezza destinata al Centro Culturale di Belém, a Lisbona. Nel 2007 si costituisce la Fondazione Pablo Atchuggarry a Manantiales (Uruguay), con l obbiettivo di creare un luogo di incontro per artisti di tutte le discipline, uno spazio di unione ideale tra natura ed arte. Questo stesso anno Atchugarry porta a compimento la sua prima scultura di otto metri intitolata Nel cammino della Luce, scolpita da un unico blocco di marmo di Carrara di 48 tonnellate e destinata alla Collezione Fontanta, in Italia. Tra il 2007 e il 2008 viene organizzata in Brasile una grande retrospettiva dal titolo El espacio plástico de la luz (Lo spazio plastico della luce), accompagnata da un testo critico di Luca Massimo Barbero. He also won the national competition with his realization of the sculpture, Monumento alla Civiltà e Cultura del Lavoro Lecchese (A Monument to the Civilization and Work Culture of Lecco), which was also a six meters high work made from a unique 33 ton block of marble from Carrara and was inaugurated in Lecco in May of In 2002, he received the Michelangelo Award in Carrara for special recognition of his artistic career. During this period, he continued to work on different projects amongst which the sculpture Ideales (Ideals), realized as a tribute for the 50th Anniversary of the Reign of Prince Ranieri of Monaco, now located in Avenue Princess Grace of Montecarlo. In 2003 he participated in the 50th Venice Biennale with the composition Soñando la paz (Dreaming of Peace) a sculptural work of 8 monumental pieces realized in Carrara marble and Bardiglio marble from Garfagnana. He exhibited at the Veranneman Foundation in Belgium for the second time. That same year he would create a work entitled Ascensión for the Fran Daurel Foundation in Barcelona. In 2004, after 25 years of not having exhibited in Uruguay, the Tejería Loppacher Gallery organized its first solo show of sculpture in Punta del Este (a continuation of the same would be held in 2005) and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires realized an important solo exhibition of his works. In 2006, the Groeninge Museum of Bruges dedicated a retrospective exhibition, with works from private international collections. Four years later, the same museum acquired a sculpture for its own collection which is on permanent display in the gardens. That same year the João Berardo Collection from Portugal acquired the work Camino Vital (Vital Pathway) - executed in precisely for the Cultural Center of Belém in Lisbon. In Uruguay, the Sur Gallery organized an exhibition of his most recent works. During the year 2007, the Pablo Atchugarry Foundation was established in Manantiales (Uruguay), with the intention of creating a meeting place for artists from all fields, an ideal space to unite nature and art. That same year the artist finalized his first eight meters high work, entitled Nel cammino della Luce (In the Way of Light), sculpted from one 48-ton block of Carrara marble, designated for the Fontana Collection in Italy. Between the years 2007 and 2008 the artist realized an important retrospective exhibition in Brazil entitled El espacio plástico de la luz (The Plastic Space of Light), an itinerant exhibition, with a critical essay presented by Luca Massimo Barbero. Exhibitions were held at the Cultural Center

Nel 2008 il Museo Nazionale di Arti Visive di Montevideo gli dedica una mostra personale che raccoglie gli ultimi quindici anni della sua produzione artistica. Nel 2009 Atchugarry conclude un altra opera monumentale, la scultura Luz y energía de Punta del Este (Luce ed energia di Punta del Este) realizzata in marmo di Carrara e con un altezza di cinque metri, che viene inaugurata a Punta del Este in occasione del centenario della città. Dopo sette anni di intenso lavoro, nel 2011 termina l opera Abbraccio Cosmico, scolpita da un blocco di 56 tonnellate di peso e di 8,5 metri di altezza. Nel novembre dello stesso anno si tiene la prima mostra personale a New York, a cura di Hollis Taggart Galleries e con testo critico di Jonathan Goodman.La Galleria Sur, in Uruguay, presenta i suoi lavori ad Art Basel Miami e, successivamente, a Tefaf Art Fair di Maastricht, nei Paesi Bassi. Nel marzo del 2012, la Times Square Alliance seleziona l opera Dreaming New York per essere esposta a Times Square durante la diciottesima edizione de The Armony Show di New York. Nel mese di luglio dello stesso anno, nell ambito del programma City of Sculpture organizzato dal Westminster City Council, due sculture di acciaio inossidabile vengono esposte a St. James Square Gardens di Londra. Queste due opere, intitolate Espíritu Olímpico I e EspírituOlímpico II, sono state create specificamente per l occasione e misurano rispettivamente 5,9 e 5,85 metri d altezza. Alla fine del 2013, la casa editoriale Mondadori Electa di Milano pubblica due volumi del Catalogo Generale della scultura di Pablo Atchugarry, a cura del professor Carlo Pirovano. Il terzo volume uscirà nel Nel il Museo dei Fori Imperiali Mercati di Traiano di Roma ha ospitato la mostra Pablo Atchugarry. Città Eterna, eterni marmi, un importante retrospettiva che ha presentato il lavoro dell artista attraverso una rassegna di 40 opere. Il Museu Brasileiro da Escultura a Sao Paulo organizza, durante l anno 2017, la più grande retrospettiva delle sue opere intitolata Un viaggio attraverso la Materia. Nel 2018 si inaugura l Atchugarry Art Center a Miami. Atchugarry riceve nel 2019 l onorificenza, da parte del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana, di Ufficiale della Stella d Italia. A maggio dello stesso anno, la Galleria d Arte Contini inaugura The Movement of Light, mostra personale dedicata all artista presso la sede di Venezia in Calle Larga XXII Marzo, San Marco Segue dal mese di giugno la mostra The Evolution of a Dream, organizzata dal Comune di Pietrasanta, in collaborazione con la Galleria d Arte Contini di Venezia, con la Fondazione Versiliana e START, che presenta in Piazza Duomo e nella Chiesa e Chiostro di Sant Agostino una selezione di sculture monumentali di Atchugarry in marmo e bronzo. of Brazil in Brasilia, the MUBE (Brazilian Museum of Sculpture) in Sao Paulo and in the Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Curitiba. In 2008, the National Museum of Visual Arts in Montevideo, dedicated a one-man exhibition to the artist which covered the last fifteen years of his artistic career. In 2009, the work entitled Luz y energía de Punta del Este (Light and Energy of Punta del Este), was inaugurated in Punta del Este, Uruguay, five meters in height and realized in Carrara marble it was a tribute to the centennial celebration of the city. In 2011, after seven years of work, the artist finalized the sculpture Abrazo cósmico (Cosmic Embrace), realized from one 56 ton block of marble and 8.5 meters high. Città Eterna, eterni marmi (Pablo Atchugarry, Eternal City, Eternal Marble), an important retrospective which presented the production of the artist through a review of 40 works of art. The Museu Brasileiro da Escultura in Sao Pualo organizes, during the year 2017, the largest retrospective of his works entitled A journey through the Matter. In 2018 the Atchugarry Art Center in Miami (USA) was inaugurated. In 2019 he was honored by the President of the Italian Republic with the title Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy. In May of that same year, the Contini Art Gallery located on Calle Larga XXII Marzo, San Marco 2288, inaugurates the exhibition The Movement of Light, a solo exhibition dedicated to the artist. In the following month of June, the Municipality of Pietrasanta in collaboration with the Contini Art Gallery in Venice, the Versiliana Foundation and START, organizes The Evolution of a Dream which presents a selection of Atchugarry s monumental sculptures in marble and bronze placed along Piazza Duomo and in the St. Augustine Church and Cloister. 169

His works are present in various museums world-wide, such as the Perez Art Museum in Miami, Phillip & Patricia Frost Art Museum in Miami, the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia,the Groeninge Museum in Bruges, Lercaro Museum in Bologna, and the Park Museum in Portofino. Atchugarry lives and works in Lecco (Italy) and in Manantiales (Uruguay), where he is committed to the development of the Pablo Atchugarry Foundation and its international sculpture park as well as areas of formation, teaching and diffusion of art; thousands of students visit each year. Today it represents the most dynamic and interesting fruition of art and international sculpture bearing in mind the internationality of its activities, which generate a large quantity of inter-exchanges with other artists and a readiness to build a bridge of communication between European and American art.
