10 Electrical Storage Systems (ESS) in ED The POI project Three ESS will be used to reduce the variability of the power flow in the parts of the network with high penetration of RES, alleviating fast power flow variations in case of wind gusts or passage of clouds. In particular, the ESS will be used to control energy exchange profiles between the HV/MV substations and the National Grid to make them more predictable (1h - 24h ahead). 13 Electrical Storage Systems (ESS) in ED The LV storage pilots Enel Distribuzione started several experiences about grid flexibility in LV network; for example in the ADDRESS European project the demand response was studied. Flexibility in LV network can help to solve several problems usually approached with traditional solutions; for example voltage regulation and overload management. In this scenario the LV storage can have is role; the 2 ESS in Abruzzo were installed during the 2012, in particular for voltage regulation service in 2 LV feeders. ESS in LV network: Installations completed 2 Loccioni/Samsung ESS (32 kva / 32 kwh) was installed for voltage regulation and hosting capacity rising in 2 LV feeders.
