Dalla progettazione dei microcircuiti ai sistemi operativi, virtualizzatori, agli strumenti software e alle metodologie. La IBM ha partecipato alla progettazione e realizzazione di oltre 20 milioni di metri quadri di datacenter. 100 datacenter IBM e 5 dei top 14 green buildings in Giappone. Nel 2006 la IBM ha gestito oltre 50 mila tonnellate di macchinari usati, riciclandone oltre il 99%
