3 INTODUCTION In this booklet, two sample tasks are provided for each of the skills of: Listening eading The two Listening and eading Italian sample tasks in this booklet have been produced to give you a better idea of the style of Asset Languages Intermediate Stage External Assessment. These tasks are based on the sample external assessment materials in English on the website. Asset Languages live tests will contain tasks of the same format as the tasks provided here. or more information on the content of the Intermediate external assessments, please refer to the Introductory Stage Guide which is available on the Asset Languages website. Language specifications are also available and these show the language purposes and functions that are in external tests for each language. Asset Languages regularly receives feedback from centres and candidates as well as statistical information from candidates live test responses. We take this information into account and, over time, tests may be adapted and new task types introduced. OC

You will have five minutes at the end of the test to copy your answers onto the answer sheet. The recording will now be stopped. La corsa in cucina La maggior parte delle persone crede che i cuochi passino tutto il tempo in afose cucine di ristoranti a cucinare e a mangiare. Ma Samuele ossi non è uno di questi. in da quando era bambino gli è sempre piaciuta la corsa. Anche in inverno, quando gli insegnanti gli facevano fare, come punizione, cinque giri del campo di calcio se era in ritardo, non se la prendeva mai. Più tardi, però, mentre imparava il mestiere di cuoco, ha dovuto quasi abbandonare la corsa a causa delle troppe pressioni al lavoro. Quando Samuele ha aperto un ristorante in proprio, ha deciso di cominciare ad allenarsi seriamente per una maratona in quanto si è accorto che l allenamento regolare lo aiutava nel suo lavoro. Come finiva di cucinare i pranzi e prima di iniziare a preparare le cene, per un ora poteva liberarsi di tutti i problemi e ritornare al lavoro sentendosi più in controllo della sua vita. Di recente Samuele ha scritto il libro Il cuoco della lunga distanza. È per chi si vuole allenare per una maratona, e dà suggerimenti a come mantenersi in forma e raggiungere il traguardo. Samuele ritiene, però, che un attenzione più seria al cibo non dovrebbe essere il territorio solo di chi si prepara per una maratona. Ogni persona che corre dovrebbe fare attenzione a cosa mangia perchè tutti i cibi freschi e i carboidrati sono senz altro d aiuto a chi fa sport. E infatti, nel suo ristorante, Samuele serve piatti che sono adatti agli atleti. Samuele, ora, vuole provare a fare delle corse ancora più lunghe. Alcuni amici gli hanno parlato di una corsa che ha luogo nella bella isola della éunion. Il percorso include montagne elevate e la corsa dura tre giorni. Ciò che lo attrae di più è la difficoltà. OC

13 EADING SAMPLE PAPE Sei scienziati su un isola tropicale. 21 La serie televisiva Scienze Tempestose andrà in onda a partire da lunedì. Nel programma, sei famosi scienziati si trovano su un isola tropicale e devono usare le loro abilità professionali e l ambiente naturale per risolvere una serie di sfide che riguardano le scienze. Nonostante le loro conoscenze, spesso, purtroppo, falliscono! 22 Non c è niente di cui stupirsi, afferma Michele, uno degli scienziati. Nella scienza ci sono più delusioni che successi. Per ogni esperimento che funziona, ce ne sono molti altri che vanno male... e noi impariamo da questi. Comunque, la determinazione è la chiave del successo. 23 Non era un isola deserta, dice Michele. Veramente noi eravamo fuori di una città. E ci hanno dato pure degli strumenti... non aveva niente a che vedere con la sopravvivenza! I produttori ci hanno dato alcune cose che non sarebbero state sull isola, ma è toccato a noi trovare tutto il resto da soli!. 24 Questi esperimenti hanno dimostrato che la scienza è un processo collaborativo. Abbiamo tutti contribuito con delle idee, aggiunge Michele, ma la troupe cinematografica si è rifiutata categoricamente di coinvolgersi con noi o di dare suggerimenti per risolvere i problemi. 25 Oltre ad essere un eccellente programma televisivo e non c è dubbio che attirerà molti spettatori questo spettacolo pubblicizza gli effetti che la scienza ha su ogni aspetto della nostra vita. Secondo Michele, questa è la ragione per cui è nell interesse di ognuno di noi di avere una certa comprensione della materia. OC
