The objective for the training is to familiarize the students with hands on experience with genomic technologies including quantitative PCR (q-pcr), DNA microarray technology and next generation sequencing technologies. Specifically (depending on their interests and career goals) they will work on projects coupling array an sequencing technologies 1) to monitor environmental pollution using (laboratory) Zebrafish and (wild) Turbot/Salmon fish systems. 2) Investigating modifier gene polymorphisms and their effect on cystic fibrosis patients (phenotype and pharmacogenomic responses) They will be trained on the use of microarray technology to study gene expression. Gene-specific expression will be measured by qrt-pcr and correlated to microarray data. Students will also be trained in next generation sequencing technologies (Illumina) and third generation single molecule sequencing technologies (Pacific Biosciences).
