Language courses: At the beginning of each semester there are courses available in Italian language. These courses last approximately one month, with two possible levels for placement (Beginner and Advanced). Further details on these courses will be printed in the guide for foreign students. Our University organizes an ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE from the 8th September to the 3rd October The course will be held 2 days per week for a total of 30 hours on different levels. We also inform you that for students interested in continuing their language learning of Italian, a follow up course of 14 hours (no additional costs) will be offered starting from November The programme and the timetable of the course will be posted on the Internet as soon as available. We will process ONLY requests of students who will have sent to our office copy of the payment by fax to the following number by the 4th JULY 2003

Once a student has determined his/her expected workload with his/her Italian advisor, a "learning agreement" must be approved by the home institution coordinator. Cost of Programs: None Additional Fees: Application Requirements: Foreign students interested in enrolling at the Università Cattolica should contact the Foreign Student Office (Sportello Stranieri) at Didactic Services (Servizio Didattica). Foreign students interested in a SOCRATES exchange programme with our university ought to make arrangements through their current university. Our office will only consider SOCRATES exchange students who have been formally approved by their foreign home institution. When coming to Italy you have to take with you the form E 111 (or any equivalent form) to be obtained from the office of the Health insurance fund in your country. In case of illness you may turn to the nearest health center (in Italy called "ASL"), bringing with you this document. You are also requested to bring with you a personal health insurance, i.e. "Europe Assistance".

STUDENTS should go within 8 days to the Police Headquarter at the Foreigners Office, and ask for the Carta di Soggiorno (permit of stay) with the following documents: a document of identity; a document proving the status of Socrates/Erasmus student, the duration and the amount of the grant; the E 111 form; three passport-sized photographs. With this system, students are able to take different exams on different dates. Also, in the case of unsuccessful efforts, students are able to retake exams on subsequent dates (sometimes after only a few days or weeks). Depending on the subject and instructor, examinations

6 may be either written and/or oral. Resist Exams: Exams/Grading System: Accommodation: The Università Cattolica does not presently offer housing opportunities for its foreign students. Available housing alternatives include apartment sharing with other students (Italian or foreign) or "au pair" (babysitting) possibilities for female students in Italian home settings. The International Relations Service assists students with locating housing solutions, even if such solutions cannot be guaranteed prior to arrival in Italy. Students first nights in Italy should be booked in a Youth Hostel or in Hotel accommodations. You will be offered the opportunity to book a place for 7 nights in one of the two following periods: 1. from 04/09/2003 to 10/09/2003 included for those students attending the Italian Language Course 2. from 25/09/2003 to 01/10/2003 included for all other students Places at the Youth Hostel are limited and spots will be available on a first come, first served basis! Students should know, however, that the city centre is easily reached from both the airport and railway stations via public transportation. Our University organizes two official "Welcome Days" for international students who will study at our University. We request you to attend one of them in order to receive all the necessary information for your stay in Milan.
