Calcolo LHC: Tier-1 e Tier-2 Donatella Lucchesi, Bruna Bertucci, Gianpaolo Carlino, Sara Pirrone, Paolo Spagnolo, Vincenzo Vagnoni Great performances as shown by the experiments presentations. Here only: - news from Computing Scrutiny Group - INFN budget 2015
Activities in the computing scrutiny group - Under scrutiny requests for 2016 - First evaluation of the 2017 needs - Asked the experiments to study disk space occupancy. Still under discussion which is the best method to monitor. 2
Requests and Flat Budget - Experiments should assume to have a "flat budget": annual performance growth of 20% for CPU, 15% for disk and 15% for tape at fixed cost. - Study of the request respect to previous year for Atlas and CMS ATLAS CMS cpu disk tape cpu disk tape 2015 19.52% 0.53% 35.31% 70.77% 9.31% 52.48% 2016 20.00% 27.03% 29.23% 33.33% 26.92% 35.14% 2017 27.96% 23.40% 28.57% 31.25% 36.36% 35.00% not really flat 3
Funding Agencies consultation Scrutiny group consulted a number of WLCG resource providers on their expectations over Run 2. The outcome is: In the most promising cases, funding is known out to 2016 or 2017 and sufficient to match requests. For future funding, responses varied from an expectation that requirements could be met over Run 2 to, more commonly, that funding requests might not be met in full and MoU pledges could not be maintained. In two cases provision below current requests is already anticipated 4
Computing Model Evolution - Reduced reconstruction and reprocessing demands - Reduced number of data copies, thanks to improved network performances - Distinction between Tier-1 and Tier-2 tasks less and less rigid - Usage of HPC facilities for Monte Carlo production, simulation of very complex devices (FTK) - New data management in progress The referees, management and experiments are proposing to organize one day of discussion on new computing model at the end of January 2015. 5
Tier-1 Costs Determination: Background Each year we have to pay for: - new resources: determined following the LHC pledges and requests from experiments - replacements: calculated following the formula for each experiment total_tobe_replaced* resources_experiment_i resources_total year_purchasse We assume: - 20% of overlap in the CPU CU: cpu: 0.012 ke/hs06 disk: 0.250 KE/TB-N tape: 0.030 ke/tb Optimized based on latest tenders and market trends 6
