2 Presentation The Faculty of Education of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore organises the 12 th edition of the 1 st level University Master in Intercultural skills. Education for social integration for the academic year Aims This Master aims to provide participants with both theoretical and practical skills in intercultural education and ethnic relationship scope. It trains professionals to be able to give cross-cultural educational help at school, in social services, in education and in international collaboration. Acquired skills supply tools to work in: intercultural comparison, migrants social integration, educational participation with children, teenagers and adults. Learning Objectives Acquired psychological, pedagogical, social and communication skills are aimed at:. communication and comparison among people of different cultures in care centres, socioeducational services, schools, tertiary sector and companies;. role of integration, support and mediation in cross-cultural relationships;. planning, organisation and evaluation of educational itineraries;. planning of social agency in network;. need analysis, development and animation of resources in multicultural local communities. Prerequisites This Master is for: Graduates with a Bachelor in Education, Humanities, Psychology, Sociology, Political and Social Science, Anthropology, Foreign Languages, Communications, Medical Health. It is, however, also open to all graduates from other faculties through an evaluation of candidates academic and personal background by the Università Cattolica committee. Admissions and Selections The maximum number of participants is 50. Candidates will have provide a CV and a cover letter giving their academic and personal background, which will be evaluated by the Università Cattolica committee. The Master will not commence with less than 30 applicants. 2

3 Course design The programme lasts one year and consists of classes, workshops, presentations by professionals and internship, leading to 60 ECTS. The learning process is organized as follows:. classroom lessons (240 hours). internship: (200 hours). workshop: (60 hours). group and individual project works, distance learning (1000 hours) Course Contents All courses are taught in Italian. The program is divided into three closely-interlinked modules: 1- SKILL: UNDERSTANDING CULTURES. Anthropological principles of cross-culture. Intercultural pedagogy. Intercultural teaching methodology. Social analysis of migratory processes 2- SKILL: BUILDING SHARED HORIZONS. Planning and cross-cultural animation. Intercultural agencies in services and in the territory. Migratory law principles 3- SKILL: MAKING USE OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIVE CODES. Managing conflicts. Sociology of Intercultural communication. Media and cross-culture Situated training 40h are dedicated to a special intensive training, carried out in a situated setting (such as an urban district with a high-density migrant population). The module includes: contact activities with local services, collection of quantitative and qualitative information, building of a «community profile» referring to the intercultural relations system, identifying the education needs in relation to specific targets, planning of local intercultural initiatives. 3

4 Workshops Students will be involved in 8-16 hours workshops involving:. Work with migrant families in childhood services. Tools for an anthropological understanding of the territory. Research and iconographic languages. Tales, games, words: narrative instruments for a cross-cultural education. Planning and fund raising. Social work with immigrant people in high-vulnerability contexts. Quality assessment of intercultural projects. Evaluation of the intercultural competences. Second generation immigrants and identity formation Internship An internship of 200 hours with intercultural research and intervention projects in organizations that have an agreement with Università Cattolica. There is also the opportunity to spend a training period abroad. 6 Admission criteria The application form should be filled in and sent by the closing date of 20 th February 2015, following the format shown on: master.unicatt.it The candidate will have to attach:. the CV;. Self-certification of Bachelor Degree with list of exams and their corresponding assessments.. cover letter (mentioned above) giving academic and personal background Selected candidates must complete their registrations with the Master Office of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, otherwise the admission becomes invalid. The tuition fee is: 2,900, tax-free. Payments is due in three instalments: 1,200 at enrolment 850 by June by September 2015 There are loans and grants available specifically for Masters students from Banca Intesa San Paolo.
