Simple but very well equipped, it lies on the first floor (there are 16 steps only from the front door) of an old and typical town house in the heart of Lucca historical centre a few steps from everything you may need. It is around 60 square metres and is a sample of old tuscany style just restored. The floors are wooden and the ceilings are beamed; the furniture is very coloured to make a nice and pleasant setting. Maybe you don' t know that: Lucca s Mint is a unique case in the numismatic field: with its twelve centuries of uninterrupted activity, the Tuscan monetary workshop is in fact one of the most long-lived and richest in history in the whole of Europe. Since the Lombards (VII century) until Carlo Ludovico di Borbone (XIX century), Lucca s Mint coined more than two thousand types of coins, accepted and valued in the whole continent. It was a vehicle of wealth, sealed by the Volto Santo effigy on gold and silver, that made merchants and bankers of Lucca protagonists of the finance and trade in Italy, the Flanders, in England, in Iberia and in the faraway Eastern lands. In the XV and XVI cent., after the domination of Pisa in the XIV cent., Lucca managed to fully reestablish its status as an independent Republic, able to express growing, financial and cultural activities, regardless of the limits imposed by its territory and the nearby powerful city of Florence. The independent coinage of Lucca continued up to the instruction of the Baciocchi family principles, propitiated by Napoleon at the beginning of the X IX cent.
