Based on the CHMP review of data on quality, safety and efficacy, the CHMP considered by consensus that the benefit/risk ratio of Rotarix indicated for the active immunisation of infants from the age of 6 weeks for prevention of gastro-enteritis due to rotavirus infection was favourable and therefore recommended the granting of the marketing authorisation. 11 settembre 2006 Based on the CHMP review of data on quality, safety and efficacy, the CHMP considered by consensus that the risk-benefit balance of RotaTeq indicated for the active immunisation of infants from the age of 6 weeks for prevention of gastroenteritis due to rotavirus infection. In clinical trials, efficacy was demonstrated against gastroenteritis due to rotavirus of serotypes G1P1[8], G2P[4], G3P1[8], G4P1[8], and G9P1[8] was favourable and therefore recommended the granting of the marketing authorisation. 21 settembre 2006

In the December issue of Vaccine update, we suggested that an ideal Christmas present for babies born since the rotavirus vaccination programme began, would be the flat-lining of the rotavirus graph on page 330 of the Green Book [ ]. Decrease in RV related hospitalizations of 0 and 1 year-old children was specific and significantly associated with vaccination coverage of the individual federal state (p > 0.0001, r = -0.58) [ ]

[ ] substantial decreases in severe diarrheal disease in US children, exceeding the level expected based on vaccine coverage, as well as the extension of benefits to older age groups ineligible for vaccination have demonstrated both the direct and indirect impacts of vaccination in the USA
