Around 100 Captains from all over the world attended the event; this number rises every year, proof of the solid relationship which has grown over the years between the Ferretti Group and its Captains. The four-day Convergence 2006 course combined sessions in the classroom, visits to shipyards and moments of relaxation, also enjoying the participation of our partners MTU, ZF, BCS, Locat, Radiomarine and Rolla. Guests were welcomed in the splendid location of the Grand Hotel late into the afternoon, and after an opening toast with Bellini and Veuve Clicquot, the gala dinner followed, generously offered by ZF. Ferretti Group s CEO, Gabriele Del Torchio, and the CEOs of the individual brands, Fulvio Dodich (Ferretti Yachts and Mochi Craft), Fabio Fraternale (Pershing), Mauro Ferrari (Itama) and Ferruccio Rossi (General Manager of Riva) were all present at this important occasion. After dinner, the guests continued their conversations while enjoying sophisticated products kindly offered by BruCo Chocolate, Nonino Grappa and Davidoff Cigars. Day Two began with Simona Calzolari (Ferretti Group) Si è concluso con grande soddisfazione dei partecipanti, partner e staff il terzo appuntamento Convergence, dedicato ai Comandanti di imbarcazioni fino a 24 metri del Gruppo Ferretti, svoltosi a Rimini dal 20 al 23 marzo. Erano presenti circa 100 Comandanti provenienti da tutto il mondo, un numero in costante aumento dalle precedenti edizioni, testimone del profondo rapporto instauratosi nel tempo tra il Gruppo Ferretti e i suoi Comandanti. Le quattro giornate di Convergence 2006 hanno abbinato sessioni di lavoro in aula, visite ai cantieri e momenti conviviali, arricchite dalla partecipazione dei nostri partner MTU, ZF, BCS, Locat, Radiomarine e Rolla. L'accoglienza degli ospiti nella splendida location del Grand Hotel si è prolungata fino al tardo pomeriggio, quando il brindisi inaugurale con calici di Bellini e Veuve Clicquot ha preceduto la cena di gala, gentilmente offerta da ZF. Hanno presenziato a quest importante occasione Gabriele Del Torchio, Amministratore Delegato del Gruppo Ferretti, e gli Amministratori Delegati delle Brand, Fulvio Dodich (Ferretti Yachts e Mochi Craft), Fabio Fraternale (Pershing), Mauro Ferrari (Itama), Ferruccio Rossi (Direttore Generale Riva). La conversazione è proseguita piacevolmente nello sfizioso dopo cena, in cui i presenti hanno potuto apprezzare i raffinati prodotti gentilmente offerti da cioccolato BruCo, grappa Nonino e sigari Davidoff.

After a theoretical introduction, a number of significant film clips were shown and then analysed by the participants in small groups; when the results were shared, a picture of a Captain s ideal style emerged, with the precious help of the experienced Captain, Felice Barletta. In the afternoon, engineer Andrea Frabetti, Vice President of the Ferretti Group Engineering Dept., introduced all the technical partners whose presentations he was responsible for coordinating. It was then ZF s turn, who chose an effective interactive way to present its "Smart Command": a video camera relayed a live demonstration of the system on a large screen. MTU followed with a detailed presentation of the latest engines and control systems. After a long day of study, the Captains enjoyed a relaxing evening: they were taken to the Santa Monica motor racing track at Misano Adriatico for an entertaining and lively go-kart competition sponsored by MTU. First on the agenda on Day Three of Convergence was BCS s presentation of steering and handling systems, followed by Radiomarine, who illustrated onboard communication and entertainment systems. Rolla then spoke about propellers and surface transmission. The afternoon was devoted to visits to the Group s shipyards, in particular Pershing (Mondolfo) and Ferretti Yachts (Cattolica), to view the latest models currently being built. Dinner provided an opportunity to enjoy traditional Romagnol food and drinks. The fourth day of training began with the presentations "Recreational craft in La seconda giornata, dopo il saluto e la presentazione del programma da parte di Simona Calzolari (Ferretti Group), ha introdotto il tema dello stile a bordo ed in navigazione, a cura di una importante società di formazione manageriale. All introduzione teorica è seguita la proiezione di alcuni spezzoni di film significativi, analizzati in seguito dai partecipanti in piccoli gruppi; la condivisione dei risultati ha portato a delineare le caratteristiche dello stile ideale di un comandante, anche con la preziosa testimonianza del Comandante Felice Barletta. Nel pomeriggio l'ing. Andrea Frabetti, Vice President Ferretti Group Engineering Dep., ha presentato tutti i partner tecnici, dei cui interventi è stato anche moderatore. Per la presentazione del suo "Smart Command", ZF ha scelto un efficace metodo interattivo: una telecamera ha ripreso in diretta il funzionamento dell impianto proiettandolo su grande schermo. A seguire il dettagliato intervento di MTU sui motori e sistemi di controllo di nuova generazione. Dopo la giornata di studio la serata si è svolta all'insegna del divertimento: i Comandanti si sono trasferiti all'autodromo Santa Monica di Misano Adriatico per un'avvincente e animata gara di go-kart sponsorizzata da MTU. La terza giornata di Convergence è stata aperta dalla presentazione curata da BCS sui sistemi di guida e manovra, a cui è seguito l intervento di Radiomarine, che ha illustrato le modalità di comunicazione ed intrattenimento a bordo, e successivamente la relazione di Rolla, inerente eliche e trasmissione di superficie. Il pomeriggio è stato interamente dedicato alle visite ai cantieri del Gruppo, in particolare Pershing (Mondolfo) e Ferretti Yachts (Cattolica), per osservare da vicino gli ultimi modelli in costruzione. news 4 1 st Convergence Navi: an excellent debut 34 Captains coming from all around the world (Europe, US, Australia, Middle East) have participated in the first meeting for Captains of pleasure yachts over 24 metres long of the Ferretti Group held in Italy, in Riccione from 5 th until 7 th April. The master s agenda was focused on technical and managerial issues and was organised thanks to the participation and contribution of important brands in the yachting world. The aim of the meeting was to offer Captains a specific training focused on the needs of those who manage mega yachts. With their presence MTU, Pinmar, Radiomarine, Rina and Arimar underlined the value of the training contents of the three-day meeting, which combined theoretical activities and leisure and relaxing moments. Also the wives of the Captains were invited to the meeting and a specific program was organised for them. Fly3 was one of the partners of the event. The company, specialising in yachting gear gave a shoulder-bag to all participants. The guests arrived in Riccione on 5 th April. The Captains attended the first session of activities, while their wives were taken for a tour of the ancient city of Rimini. Engineer Andrea Frabetti, Vice President of the Ferretti Group Engineering Department welcomed the participants, then MTU and Pinmar talked about engines and onboard painting. The evening was spent in the magnificent setting of the Riviera Golf Club in San Giovanni in Marignano with a gala dinner offered by the official sponsor of the event, MTU. During the evening the guests enjoyed the tasting of grappa Nonino, BruCo chocolate and Davidoff cigars. Other sponsors of the event were Bellini and Veuve Clicquot. The second day started with team management activities creating, managing and working in a team. During those activities the Captains tackled the issue of team management in critical situations. The activity was followed by a tour of the three main shipyards of the Ferretti Group: CRN, Pershing and Ferretti Yachts. The ladies were involved in a relaxing day dedicated to shopping at the Gilmar factory (Iceberg and Gerani brands. The company opened the doors of its factory only for the Captain s wives). The afternoon was dedicated to total relax in the Spa with the contribution of Technogym. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the scheduled gokart race for the evening had to be cancelled. After a delicious typical regional dinner the guests were taken for a very private and exclusive visit to the garage of vintage cars belonging to Mr. Norberto Ferretti. The activities of the third day were focused on GMDSS issues (Arimar), communication and onboard entertainment (Radiomarine) and safety regulations and approvals (Rina). At the end of the morning the Captains received their attendance certificates, followed by a farewell lunch and the promise to meet again for the next Convergence Navi 2007. hanno voluto essere presenti all evento. Alle signore invece è stata dedicata una giornata di assoluto relax tra shopping in fabbrica da Gilmar (marchi Iceberg e Gerani, che unicamente per questa occasione ha aperto le porte della sua fabbrica) ed un pomeriggio in Spa con il contributo di Technogym. Il brutto tempo ha purtroppo impedito di proseguire la serata in un match di go-kart, così, ad una gustosissima cena tipica romagnola, ha fatto seguito una visita tutta privata al garage delle auto storiche di Norberto Ferretti. Approfondimenti sui temi di GMDSS (Arimar), comunicazione ed intrattenimento a bordo (Radiomarine) e regolamenti e certificazione di sicurezza (Rina) hanno caratterizzato la mattinata del terzo giorno che si è conclusa con la consegna degli attestati di partecipazione prima del pranzo di congedo e l arrivederci al prossimo Convergence Navi 2007.

7 news New functions available with ZF SmartCommand Control System SmartCommand System produced by ZF, today is installed on all boats with length more than 40ft produced by Ferretti Group and it is perfectly compatible both with MAN and CAT engines. SmartCommand, provides best performances when it is interfaced with ZF transmissions that are equipped with a specific kit allowing to obtain 2 controlled trolling profiles that have been defined to meet specific needs that can occur while boating. Easidock This user mode has been designed to have a smoother boat response while manoeuvring, typically while entering the harbor and docking. As soon as the lever is moved on (ahead or astern) detent position, the control system introduces a controlled slip of the propeller shaft at about 50% of normal revolutions. This allows to reduce the boat speed at minimum to roughly 3 knots. If in this condition the thrust supplied by the prop is not enough, as soon as the lever is accelerated the clutch locks-up and the engine increases revs as would happen in normal mode. To obtain this slip the oil pressure on the clutch plates is reduced. Special attention was paid to maintain a quick and effective response of the gearbox particularly while inverting the prop rotation to assure that the boat reaction is not penalized while manoeuvring. SmartCommand, fornisce le prestazioni ottimali quando viene interfacciato con trasmissioni ZF dotate di un kit specifico che consente di attuare 2 profili di trolling retroazionato che sono stati ideati per rispondere a specifiche esigenze che si possono presentare in navigazione. Easidock Questa modalità di utilizzo del sistema è stata concepita per rendere più dolce la risposta dell imbarcazione in manovra, tipicamente all entrata in porto e quando si sta ormeggiando. Il sistema di controllo, non appena si innesta la marcia (avanti o indietro), al minimo introduce uno slittamento dell asse elica controllato a circa il 50% dei giri normali. Ciò consente di ridurre a circa 3 nodi la velocità dell imbarcazione al minimo. Qualora al minimo la spinta fornita dall elica non sia sufficiente, non appena la leva viene accelerata la frizione si innesta completamente ed il motore aumenta i giri come in modalità normale. Per ottenere questo slittamento viene variata la pressione dell olio sulle frizioni ed è stata fatta particolare attenzione a mantenere la risposta dell invertitore pronta ed efficace specie durante l inversione del moto proprio per non penalizzare la reattività dell imbarcazione in manovra. Giri Elica in funzione dell angolo di rotazione della leva in modo Easidock: questa funzione consente di ottenere metà giri elica al minimo. Prop revs vs. lever angle in Easidock mode: this function allows to have half prop Revs at minimum. Giri Elica in funzione dell angolo di rotazione della leva in modo normale: ruotando la leva di 15 si innesta la marcia poi ruotando ancora si aumentano i giri elica (e motore) fino al massimo. news 8 Autotroll This user mode is aimed at controlling precisely the low speed range of the boat. It gradually allows to modify the slip of the gearbox clutch. In this configuration the first half of the lever rotation (both in ahead and astern) maintains the idle engine revs while applying an increasing oil clutch pressure that causes the slip to slowly reduce from 70% to 30%. Thus it is possible to set precisely a speed in the range 1,5-5 knots that can be quite useful for fishing purposes as well as to comply with speed limits typical in canals or internal basins. Both modes are based on a direct control of the propeller shaft RPM using a magnetic sensor that allows to modify the pressure on the clutch accordingly obtaining a stable and repetitive control. Autotroll Questa modalità di utilizzo del sistema ha l obiettivo di controllare con precisione le basse velocità dell imbarcazione consentendo di variare con gradualità lo slittamento delle frizioni. In questo caso la prima metà della rotazione della leva (sia in marcia avanti sia in marcia indietro) mantiene i giri motore costanti e varia la pressione applicata alle frizioni riducendo via via lo slittamento dal 70% al 30%. Si riescono così ad impostare con precisione velocità dell imbarcazione nel range 1,5 5 nodi che possono essere molto utili sia per la pesca sia per rispettare limiti di velocità imposti in canali o bacini interni. Entrambe le modalità si basano sul controllo dei giri elica tramite un sensore magnetico per variare la pressione sulle frizioni e consentono così di ottenere un comando stabile e ripetibile. A new strategic plan for CRN The Ferretti Group has set in motion an important strategic plan for CRN; the main aim is to strengthen the company s competitiveness and further consolidate its presence in the segment of mega and maxi yachts in composite materials and steel. This programme forecasts concentrating on the production and sale of 3 deck yachts in composite materials and steel, currently measuring 128 feet and over and in the future max. 80 metres in length. Within this context, Ferretti Yachts will become responsible for the production and sale of semi-customised yachts in composite materials with a max. 2 decks, particularly the Custom Line 97, 112 and Navetta 30 models, which are the natural evolution of the current Ferretti Yachts range (from 46 to 88 feet) and will be able to benefit from the well-established network of brand dealers, guaranteeing a more extensive, more capillary distribution.
11 news Rina: the regulatory environment for commercial yachts Table 1 The most advanced maritime administrations, concerned with the registration of pleasure vessels engaged in commercial use, have adopted the codes which consider, at least, the safety and pollution prevention standards appropriate to the size and operation of the vessel. The international rules applicable to yachts in commercial use are summarised in the Table 1. In consideration of the wide number of certificates and surveys applicable to pleasure vessels, RINA is offering some helpful tools for a safe management of the yacht: The RINA Internet site (www.leonardoinfo.com) allows yacht owners and managers to access updated information relevant to their classed yacht by means of personal entry codes. EASY (e-mail alert system) is an e-mail messaging system assisting yacht owners and managers in the monitoring of the due dates of class and statutory surveys. Based on the Ship Status recorded in Leonardo Info, an e-mail message is sent to three user defined e-mail addresses, reporting the list of surveys expiring. For any additional information please visit: www.rina.org Rina: quadro normativo yacht commerciali Le più avanzate amministrazioni di bandiera hanno sviluppato dei codici di sicurezza per gli yacht utilizzati per fini commerciali, che prendono in considerazione diversi aspetti relativi alla sicurezza e all antinquinamento. I requisiti normativi variano in base alla stazza e al servizio delle unità. Le normative internazionali applicabili e la relativa certificazione, sono riassunti nella Tabella 1. In considerazione dell ampio numero dei certificati e delle diverse tipologie di visite, il RINA ha sviluppato alcuni servizi innovativi per la gestione degli yacht per aiutare il proprietario, il manager o il comandante di uno yacht nella gestione delle ispezioni e delle scadenze normative: Il sito internet del RINA (www.leonardoinfo.com) offre la possibilità di avere un accesso sicuro, attraverso codici di entrata personali, allo status della propria barca e di poter consultare tutte le informazioni tecniche e normative del proprio yacht. EASY (e-mail alert system) è un sistema di avviso tramite posta elettronica in grado di assistere nel monitoraggio degli scadenziari delle visite di classe e delle visite statutarie. Basandosi sulla situazione visite registrata in Leonardo Info, EASY invia un messaggio di posta elettronica a tre indirizzi prescelti, informando circa la prossima scadenza di una visita o l entrata in vigore di nuove normative tecniche. news 12 Seven new models for Miami Ferretti 550, Ferretti 630, Ferretti 681, Ferretti 881, Pershing 56, Riva 68 Ego, Mochi 44 Dolphin : Ferretti Group successfully presented these previews in Collins Avenue at the Miami Yacht and Brokerage Show, from 16 th to 21 st February 2006. In particular, the new Ferretti 550 model was built according to ABYC (American Boat & Yacht Council) standards and has obtained NMMA (National Marine Manufacturers Association) certification. It is only the first of what will become a stream of US bound Ferretti Group yachts to be similarly certified. Ferretti Yachts is the very first European shipyard to obtain NMMA certification, which guarantees that the Ferretti 550 conforms to ABYC standards. The NMMA is the only agency which offers certification for yachts in the United States, and has been commended by the US Coast Guard for this effort to improve boating safety. The NMMA Certification process includes shipyard inspections by NMMA industry experts and adherence to an NMMA edited version of the internationally reknown standards of the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC).
